I love the bluntness of Mick Coup's video and I completely agree. From the moment the first punch is thrown, the fight is likely to be over in less than 3 to 5 seconds. Most likely, if you haven't pre-emptively struck your opponent (assuming you had just cause) or responded to an attack with immediate aggressive counterattacks, then you are on the floor getting kicked and stamped on by your opponent and his mates. It's going to be fast, brutal and messy.
Many attacks in the UK involve more than one opponent. Even observers who are not involved at all may take a swing at the back of your head for no reason at all, so the last thing you want is a drawn out playground fight or to end up on the floor. If a fight is unavoidable, then strike first, strike hard and strike multiple times in rapid succession then move on, rapidly.
I'd like to hear Mick's views on the pre-fight build up, use of the fence, escalation and de-escalation as well as the legality of self defence.
I attended one of Micks seminars a few years back. Fond memories of that day and learned valuable skills. Cheers mick! 🍻
I’ve trained
Krav Maga/BJJ/boxing
There’s some serious criticism of Krav Maga but this is one area where they get right. You need to be violent and aggressive immediately.
I just recently heard of him for some reason.. Wondering if he has any concepts that are in written/pdf form... I really want to digest all he knows .
HateJethro he has lot of stuff written up on the net
Ewan Burke tnx dude
HateJethro look up core combative or c2
Best advice to date. Nothing beats SURPRISE!
I've never understood the arguing about X art or system being better than Y system...
Just do it all. BJJ Blackbelt, Judo Blackbelt, Box and Thai Box, fight MMA, train Freestyle and some Catch Wrestling - Compete as much as you feel like
And then also train Krav, Combatives, RBSD, Kali/Escrima
Train Olympic Lifting, Powerlifting, Strength & Conditioning, Running etc
Okay, probably not a realistic option if you are just starting in your 40s, but you can still train a cross section.
"This is better than xyz"
You can have it all, and constantly strive to bring up your weaker areas, this is the goal people.
I'm not advocating to do everything at once. Get a solid grounding in something, preferably a striking art AND a grappling art, then after 5 years, look to diversify.
Frankly, if you are a powerful / explosive individual, who can box and wrestle well, and also trains for the 5 second fight, is street smart and able to turn on aggression and violence, everything else is just a luxury.
The element of surprise!!
More truth here
Some interesting comments below. Other than trainers, how many people over 40 would you find training seriously in an MMA gym ? Many here would laugh at the sight of a 60-year old doing kata/forms, but compared to his/her peers I guarantee you that someone who has stuck with it for a lifetime will be much healthier. At 20, I didnt have any time for any of that 'health and fitness' stuff either, but wait until you get older (esp after you've broken a few bones) : you'll see things very differently. I'm very, very happy that I've never seen the operating table in an emergency room, never sat in the dock in a courtroom and - most of all - never heard a cell door locked behind me. If you want to be the meanest SOB in town, all power to you, but there is more to life than being able to walk into a pub and rearrange people's faces.
Kung Fu gets a bad rap but tbh
That's what it's about
Especially short range styles
Get in there
Defend
Compromise the oponent
End it
Get out
yet doesnt work at all
M e h
Get in there with guys who use it or have l to use it, whatever they know and literally just try to even see it.
Mick coup has given away what amounts to a treasure chest of knowledge and information completely for free in the form of threads and articles on his c2 core combatives website.
100% agree - I have only attended a few sessions of Mick's training but I learnt more about having a fight from him that I did in years of some martial arts. I also learned to hit harder than I ever had before - drill the body mechanics slowly and the speed and power are simpler to develop.
love it
Years ago I met a very special American Marine. He was taught that if you haven't taken out your enemy in 7 seconds you were probably gone.. Mick has the same philosophy only he allows himself just 5 seconds. Good to know.
Dude my sifu says this
And our second in Rank to him is a marine
Yep
Yepyepyep
The glf concept reminds me of the old vitor belfort back when he was roided upto the gills
That is gold right there 🙂
Clinch and cqc
Judo and real jiu jitsu
And I'd make a case for jkd it Kumg Fu. Real king Fu
Which is very hard to find
Lot of teachers don't fight
WTF is Kumg fu and King fu 😳😂😂🤷🏽
