    Great video! You gave me hope, as I have a GTX-1050 TI. I'm still going to probably build a killer system since.....why not!

    • @TheRobeRanger
      @TheRobeRanger ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A 1050ti will most certainly run DCS, especially with the new graphics engine engine and porting to Vulcan Eagle Dynamics has been talking about and testing (I think they will come to DCS next year, but I might be mistaken) the biggest bottleneck for DCS performance you will probably have would be with the CPU and RAM (at least until DCS gets more optimized)

      @@TheRobeRanger Thanks! Another obstacle I'll be dealing with is the fact that I'm still on Windows 7. That's means I'd have to install an older version, correct?

    • @TheRobeRanger
      @TheRobeRanger ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@effsixteenblock50 I think so, if you install DCS through steam and go into the betas you should find one that supported older versions of windows, however, this does mean you won’t be able to play on any servers that J know of, get any of the new optimization stuff they are working on or get any of the new and newer modules. I would recommend moving to windows 10, but you can still play on an older version of DCS (I believe it is update 2.5.6 that last supported windows 7)

    In case this helps: i5 4690k running at 4.1 ghz, 1650 super 4gvram, 16 gigs ddr3 at 1600 and SSD: Single player with everything set to low except medium textures (so I can read button labels in cockpit) and I get 60 - 70 FPS. I tried a full multiplayer server ONCE and I got 1 frame every 5 seconds. Since DCS has such a steep learning curve some people might be able to play single player decently while learning and then upgrade if they see themselves playing it a lot.

      Same GPU here, my CPU is i7 4790K 4.0ghz.
      I have done some testing in multiplayer. 1080p minimal settings:
      GPU was running at 100% and VRAM was full (4025MB) that is causing the 1 fps stutter as you mentioned.
      CPU is on 25-30% and boosting to 4.4ghz. Max CPU usage 71% on loading.
      My conclusion: GTX 1650 Super is powerful enough to run DCS multiplayer on minimal settings at 40-60fps, however, it is limited with poor 4GB of VRAM and causing a lot of freezes and stutters
      Tested on servers with 2 to 20 people.

    Dude, you're a saint! I know this is a year old video, but I'm just now upgrading from a GTX 1070, Ryzen 7 2700. And I'm on a TIIIIIIIGHT budget. No RTX 4090 for me, lol. But trying to find a straight and realistic answer about what I should be looking at for my new GPU and CPU has been Hell. I ask most (seems like most) DCS players and they seem to think anything less than a RTX 4080 with (insert super computer processor) won't handle DCS. I've been like, "Gee guys, how have I been playing at all then?". I just needed some guidance on how to upgrade my potato to a better potato for DCS. Thank. You.
    EDIT: I appreciate replies with ideas on which way to go, BUT I've already upgraded by now. DCS is running great so far. Though I suppose if people want to continue to make suggestions for the sake of anyone reading the comments, I won't try to stop them.

      Just to throw it out there, but I've been doing just fine with a RTX 3060 (the 12GB version which is a bit of a bear to find as nVidia decided to screw over people by canning that variant and releasing a weaker 8 GB version without updating the name). This handled great though once I went up to 32GB of RAM, and bumped from a 2000 series Ryzen 5 to a 5000 series Ryzen 7 and my performance went up to the moon.

    Great Video. I‘ve just ordered parts for an entire new Rig for DCS. One important side note for VR:
    The GPU requierements can change drasticly depending on which VR Headset you use. VR is very VRAM intensive on the GPU side and DCS in general is still badly optimized (DCS only utilizes 1 and a half CPU Core)
    I own a HP Reverb G2 and I also had a Pimax 8KX for testing.
    The 11 GB VRAM on my RTX 2080 Ti have not been sufficient enough for the Reverb G2, I averaged 32 FPS with the occaisonal drop to 12 FPS on high settings. The Reverb G2 utilized the entire 11 GB VRAM.
    I haven‘t even tried the Pimax on my system and tested it on the PC of a friend of mine who has an Intel i9 12900k, 128GB RAM and a RTX 3090 Ti and guess what, the results are somewhat similar: 42 FPS on average with the occaisonal drop to 15 FPS. That GPU has 24 Gigs of VRAM and Memory Overflow was also the issue here.
    My personal recommendation for the Reverb G2: at least an AMD Radeon RX 6800XT/6900XT or a RTX 3090/4080 16 GB. Don‘t even bother with a GPU under 16 GB VRAM. I‘ve tested the Reverb G2 with an AMD Ryzen 5 3600X,32GB RAM and a RX 6800 XT and ist just works like a charm. 45 FPS on average on high settings and barely drops under 25 FPS.
    For Monster VR Headsets like the Pimax5KX: don‘t even bother for now.

    I would recommend not to bother to buy a used GTX 1070/1080/1080Ti especially at the current ebay pricing . Just go for an RTX 2060 if you don't plan to play on 4K. This is what I consider entry level GPU for DCS. Old i5@3.2GHz, 32GB RAM and SSD. I tried DCS with GTX 1060 6gb, GTX 970 4Gb, Rx 580 8Gb, GTX 1080, RTX 3060 (laptop) and RTX 3080. Overall, for 1080p, with low to medium settings (some compromise are required) they all kind of work except for the 970 4gb which really lacks Vram. For high res or VR, the GTX1080 is the bare minimum but I can only recommend going for a RTX 3070 or RX 6700xt. My RTX 3080 is ok in VR (Pimax Artisan) with some compromise on the quality settings. In terms of cpu, I upgraded from a Xeon E5 2670 @3.4ghz to Ryzen 1700x to 5600x. For GTX1080 or Rtx 3080, the cpu was a clear bottleneck. The R5 5600x does wonder and is pretty cheap, and is a drop in replacement in AM4 motherboard (update your bioa before though).

      16GB is always better than 8GB where RAM is concerned, and for DCS it's practically the bare minimum these days. DDR5 is better than DDR4, but I'm still rocking DDR4 with no issues. You'll definitely need 512GB free storage space for DCS, especially if you plan on buying any of the aircraft modules. More will be required for terrains other than Caucasus and Marianas. I would strongly suggest a desktop over a laptop, cooling is much easier and desktops can be upgradable.

      Yeah, on medium settings you should be okay. If you're going to be doing a lot of multiplayer, you might want to up that RAM to 32GB, DCS tends to get very RAM hungry in multiplayer. Otherwise that's a pretty decent system for DCS.

      DCS is free, unless you want a payware aircraft like the F/A-18

      @Rodney 1984 i was thinking to buy 1650 în the past to not have bottleneck but i guess is not worth it, 1660 super is much better
