"Rock in Me" is Miku as the lead vocalist. The song gives Miku a chance not only to sing but act a cheerleader again. When it's on their playlist, everyone loves it and participates.
Miku and Kanami are my personal inspirations in life. BAND MAID are a very special band. What i love seeing, is just how much Miku's personality has rubbed off on the other girls, making them more confident.
People talk incessantly about their talent and beauty, but no one talks about how incredibly hard working they are. Over 400 live performances in 10 years, 8 if you count the pandemic. They've talked a little about their early days in some interviews. There's a few videos of them breaking down their own equipment after some early shows.
Rick, there are some songs where the OMV’s are preferred and worth reacting to over the live versions. These include “Thrill” “Real Existence” “Alone” “The Non Fiction Days” “YOLO” “Secret My Lips” “Choose Me” “Bubble” “The Dragon Cries” “After Life”. Also, the studio version (no video) of their song “I’LL” is an absolute banger in the same vein as “Matchless Gum” which you love.

I have been enjoying your Band-Maid reactions, Rick. There is a discrepancy at the beginning of this video. The video that is showing when it says "A new band performed for the first time" is definitely not Band-Maid's first performance. As I understand it Band-Maid had three live shows before Saiki joined the band. I have seen some video from one of those performances. Perhaps it should say this was the first time that all five members performed together. A highlight for me is Akane playing the cajon at that Engadget show. I have seen her play a cajon twice now and I have never seen anyone play one better than her. She absolutely kills it at master level. The other time I have seen her play the cajon is at the Online Acoustic Okyuji from Christmas 2021. The video where you said "I don't remember this one" is the video that saved Band-Maid from being dropped by their record label. The way I understand it is that Band-Maid's record company was about to drop them but gave them money to create a video for their single Love Passion Matador. The band decided to make the video for the B-Side of the single instead which is Thrill. The video went viral with millions of views around the world in no time at all and the record company ended up keeping them around. If you watch that video closely you will see that Miku did not know how to play rhythm guitar at that time and was simply holding it as a prop for the video. Kanami later taught her how to play it and she has become a vital part of Band-Maid's live sound. She even has her own signature guitar now made by Zemaitis called Flappy Pigeon. The many live videos shown at the beginning where it looks like there are large window panes behind them with video screens inside are from the Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017. It is a shame that only an hour of the show has ever been released because what is available is simply incredible. Great set list, great sound mix, great performance, great crowd response, everything about it is top notch. The part where they are dressed in traditional Japanese garb was an April Fool joke from 2018 where they called themselves Band-Maiko. They actually put out an EP of Band-Maiko songs. The one shown was Gion-Cho. The song you looked perplexed about where Miku yells "Don't say you love me" is After Life. The official music video shows waitresses at a maid cafe getting pissed about something and then ends with a choreographed dance. Following that where you were air writing notes is Miku singing Sayonakidori which translates to Nightingale. One of the few songs that Miku sings lead on, which also includes Time and Rock In Me. There is a version of Sayonakidori from their Online Acoustic Okyuji that deserves a listen. It is just Miku playing acoustic guitar and singing, Akane on drums using some special sticks, and Misa playing lead bass. I missed a few songs at the end which you were curious about. I hope the ones that I caught will point you toward something new. Keep the reactions coming!

Rick, I don't know if you have reacted to "Awkward" the official live video or "Wonderland", the official live video from their channel. Both songs are worth a reaction. They show how talented these women are.
If you have a friend or family member who does not know who or what Band-Maid is, this is the video to show them. These, at one time really young, (20 y/o olds) have come a long way in their 11 years together, from tiny nightclubs to massive arenas and music festivals. This video is proof that these amazingly talented young Japanese females are throrougly professional musicians with, I hope, better days and more recognition ahead.

It is simple math. They have 120+ songs, only about 40 are officially on their TH-cam page. Many are unofficially out there, either older official videos that were deleted, or just plain unofficial videos! It is a given that many more songs would be well known and liked if they had an official video for fans and reactors to easily watch w/o fear of copyright.
I can't believe no one has brought up Band-Maiko !!!!! The short story is that they decided to play an April Fool's joke on the fans. So they said that they had decided to stop playing rock and do music related to the geisha culture in Japan. I think they did a small 6 song mini album, with most of the songs based on music that had already been written, except for one specifically written for Band-Maiko, which was "Gion-Cho", the song in this video. The word Maiko is the term used for a geisha in training, where they learn all the arts that are part of the culture. Two videos were made, I believe. The first was "Secret of Maiko Lips", which came from their song "Secret - My Lips". The other was "Gion-Cho", which is an artistic masterpiece in my opinion. The song is an ode to the geisha culture and its ancestral home, the city of Kyoto. When Miku wrote the lyrics, she did them in the dialect that is particular to Kyoto. They filmed the video in Kyoto on location at some of the most beautiful spots you can think. Kyoto is a beautiful city that is renowned for its scenes of traditional Japanese culture, and was one of the only cities that was never on a list cities targeted for bombing during WW II, by the direct order of General Hap Arnold, the head of the US Army Air Forces, who had visited there with his wife. There is also a "making of Gio-Cho" documentary on YT that is just fascinating. After watching it I went down into the rabbit hole of the geisha culture, which is not what many people think it is. But that's another story. I think you should react to "Gion-Cho" sooner rather than later, lol. I know you will be floored. Cheers.
I was confused in the beginning regarding the dates because what was showing on video was not necessarily the actual date. The date turns out to be the release date of the album the song is in.
Thank you for your reaction. There is simply too much good songs to know where to begin but I reduce it to two things for the moment. I think I really needed Thrill to understand my journey with Band Maid, I like the song, not saying it is the best one, but I find it important. Second, Corallium was a B-side to Sense and maybe somewhat overlooked, it was added to the EP Unleash but I really don’t think any maidiac should go through life without listen to Corralium. It somehow holds all the elements that made me interested in music again, subjective and all that. Anyway, have fun! :)
Band-Maiko! A Maiko is an apprentice Geisha from Kyoto. This was an April fools joke by the band. On April 1st 2018 the Band-Maid website and You Tube channel was taken down and replaced by Band-Maiko. All music was removed and replaced with the "Secret Maiko Lips" MV. (a cover of Band-Maids "Secret My Lips but with added traditional Japanese instruments). They stated this was their new direction. They also don't sing in normal Japanese dialect, they sing in Kyoto dialect. Check out the original "Secret My Lips" for the difference. They also changed their names: Saiki became Fujiki Miku became Hatoko Kanami became Kanoemi MISA became Umemisa Akane became Akatsuki In 2019 they did it again on April 1st releasing the MV to "Gion-Cho" - the only Band-Maiko original.
