Testicular yolk sac tumor is a common testicular tumor in children under 3 years old. Also known as endodermal sinus tumor, its elevated cases replaces the testis by a gelatinous mass and is usually associated with malignant endodermal cells in its variable stage.
In 2014, Christian Jareño was diagnosed with an 8.5cm Yolk Sac Tumor. His parents didn’t know about his condition until friends and relatives observed that Christian’s stomach was abnormally large.
At that time, the family finally decided to schedule Christian for an operation even though their resources were restricted for fear that his condition would worsen if left untreated. What they didn’t know was that Christian is not only suffering from EST.
Last May, doctors found another tumor: a 5cm mass in Christian’s brain which resulted in a second operation.
To help them compensate, the family approached the MKK medical assistance program to augment their hospital bills. Christian is also undergoing 6 cycles of chemotherapy at Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital for his lung tumor.
