What a great video! I had the exact problem of my fob not working, had called into my local Nissan dealership and was told I'd have to have the car towed in. I followed your recommended steps and they worked like a charm. Thanks for making such a clear, crisp and effective video.
I'm glad it was helpful. On a related note, you might want to try changing the battery on the fob as this helped me. I've got a video covering that on the channel. Thanks for watching!
This is really good to know. Traded my 2016SL in on a 2018S before the incentives disappeared. I really miss the "space ship" instrument panel and start up chimes. Your vid reminded me of that.
Like the other comments, thank you so much for this video - I've owned my Leaf for 2 years now + never knew this. Managed to get it to start this morning using your method, but yesterday I had to drive an ICE instead so I could get to work. Also loved your humour with the hammer - I was getting close to smashing the dashboard yesterday morning.
Imagine being in a cold place with rain coming down and your key fob dies and you have to watch minutes of antics to find out what could be said in 30-40 seconds.
What exactly responsible for start button activation? Is there transponder installed into mechanical key? Did you try to use bare mechanical key without smart fob?
RFID chip in the fob. Around the Start Button is a short-range antenna sending out a ping for an RFID answer. If your fob has the right answer (code), you're in!

Is there even a need for a battery in the fob if you can do all the essentials without it?
OMG!😳 Thank you so much, dude🤘🏻
Love you man!

When I lock the car with the mechanical key, it only locks the driver’s door, anyone else?
That is what happens on my car.
That's the same with my dad's Leaf. You need to hit the door lock button beneath the window to lock all the doors.
Just push the lock button inside the door, then close the door.
@@billygowhoop thank you for this.
So helpful. Thank you!
