That's such a friend for life, it's only a shame they didn't truly understand Walt earlier.
The Gretchen reveal is the first time the show gave us insight into who Walt has Always been because I think a lot of us can imagine the desire to act out, get revenge on the petty nasty side characters of our lives but we see he had all the makings to not be a bitter shell of a person, that for all he thought of his life as a bronze medal, he designed it to be - he’s so toxic he stresses out criminal masterminds

He likes to blame the world for why he’s in his predicament in life, but all of these hints and showing he did have those opportunities to be successful and actually provide for his family! I think when watching the show interspersed with the human side of Walter White and this side of him, people tend to root for him as "the main character", but THIS is an unbridled, pure, RAW display of the despicable man Walter White truly is. There's no humanization, no sympathy - it's a 47 minute compilation of the mask of a wicked individual slipping, and it's intensely moving (and frightening) to see. Thanks for this!
The thing is you watch Breaking Bad and you kinda understand how the whole thing goes with Walter, you feel for him and youre happy when he can be badass, but when you watch these clips like this, and you think about it from the perspective of Gretchen, Elliot, Skyler, Hank, Jesse etc. it is fucking crazy what kind of monster Walt has become purely because he let his ego drive his remaining life. Breaking Bad is really one of the most brilliant series ever made, and exactly because it is so human, and deeply emotional.
The bottle is the best. It's the closest Heisenburg ever came to showing himself to his family and even Hank (I won't count the fake tape cause it's all an act). He truly gave zero ****s right there and was even ready to start rumbling with Hank like he does with Jesse. I like to think thats one of the moments Hank puts together when he finds out the truth, when he goes and looks back on everything he can remember and starts putting answers with questions.
