  • We just got done competing at the ‪@wcbfarrier‬ World Horseshoeing Classic at Spy Coast Farms in Lexington, Kentucky and this is day 1 of 3, the "Draft Shoeing Class". This video shows a lot of the different teams competing for the top spot and the different levels of difficulty from which horse you draw for your team. Each class is 2.5 hours long to get finished shoeing a full draft horse with handmade ag-heel horseshoes. There's two other days of competition that I'll be putting videos up of, so stay tuned for them!

So much chaos with all the voices, pounding and loud music! I feel sorry for the horses. 😟

What does he mean when he was referring to the horse's "corking" themselves?
Secondly, what's up the "steel heels" built into the horseshoe? How can a horse be comfortable if it cant put its hooves flat? As many of these horseshoeing videos as I've seen, (and it's been many), I have definitely never seen a horshoe built with clip like protrusion (which i just kept hoping this guy only put his "toe clips) on the ends, on both sides of fhe frogs. And for the life of me, I can think of no earthly good for reversed "toe clips" on the heels of the horse's hooves!

They’re for traction. This is the traditional way of shoeing agricultural horses that were used to plow fields and logging.

@USAfarrier-pnwfarriershow oh, ok, I get that. And if you don't mind, what's corking?

It’s if they interfere with the opposing limb so you want the medial caulk to be safe and won’t hurt the horse if it does happen.

What do the judges look for at each stage and then score, is it cumulative or subtracted score?

    • @USAfarrier-pnwfarriershow

There’s 3 stages you get judged on- foot prep, shoe fit and quality, then fit and finish. And each stage has a couple different parts that can get a max of 10 points for each but getting a 10 is probably not going to happen. Then all the points are added up and whoever’s team has the most points wins the contest.

Why are the judges in a group, would an unbiased opinion be protected by an order of who judges and then give so much time to each judge? Stupid question, just asking.

In some cases that works but from my understanding is by having them judge together the writing is on the wall and can’t be hidden. Not a stupid question!
