Hahahaha, Scott! "Almost professionnal?" Definitely PROFESSIONNAL!!! Thanks for the vid!! (I am not a professionnal, but I eat everything I hunt, and me and my father take care of all the game week-end shoot.... I like to learn new tricks! Thanks!!
Thanks for the video! I'm being gifted 20 pigeons tonight and needed a tutorial. I was dreading because I've done chicken and duck, neither of which is hard, but a bit of work. This make it seem as if pigeons will go much faster. And you'll see this too late, but everyone is telling me that I need to dress the birds immediately, but you made it clear that you did it the next day. I would much rather wait til morning.
you will be fine Rob. makes no difference and they pluck really easy even when cold.be sure to check out my pigeon recipes too.all the best and happy plucking . cheers. . .
Hi Arc we only really use the eggs in the uk,id love to try the quail itself.A brace is what you call 2 game birds as in say a brace of pheasant, its usually 1 male and 1 female, sold together as a pair.ie a brace, hope this answers your question mate cheers .Scott
Many thanks AJB,too kind,i love doing these kind of videos, using my knowledge and skill to teach others, its what i do best ,i will have to do a knife sharpening vid sometime soon as-well,and if you get any pigeon give it a go,its easier then you think, all the best mate and keep a look out for my pigeon with elderberries coming soon, cheers.
When the economy brakes down you would be happy to have a pidgeon to eat. I am an older grandma in sweden and during the second wwll the restaurants in sweden served pidgeon but they did not named it pidgeon. Learn from SRP
@@IvanIvanov-vy7pt I stand corrected on what it might have been called. Squab is the only thing remotely close to pigeons sold for human consumption that I have seen here in the States. Admittedly I am still new to the world of butchery and meat processing.
Hi Arc,I don't find them gamey at all, they just taste lovely, cooking them really fresh, and not hanging them like you would with pheasant,so they don't develop a more gamey flavour is the trick, hope this helps mate.Cheers .Scott
The only quails we have are bred, and we really only use the quail eggs, but grouse is something special, and is very expensive,i will do a video when i get hold of a brace, cheers arc.Scott.
I've always handed my own game to a mate of mine and you make it look damn easy. I guess practice makes perfect, i'll have to buckle down and give it a go then until i get into the swing of things.
Hi mate, see what i can do with the knife sharpening vid. All ready got worked out in my head the pigeon and elderberry dish,so,watch this space, thanks.
one method I'm sure you've done before Scott but not in this video is how I do it: Pluck the breast, make a small cut under the breast (tail end), using some snips cut along both sets of ribs up towards the neck. using your thumb, under the breast, peel it all back up towards the head as a whole continue peeling until the breast comes off and you're left with crown. That's how I do it :) negates the need to even encounter the guts for the feint hearted and I usually do it in the field once i've shot them because of those pesky feathers!! Great videos, keep it up :)
What does it taste like? Never heard of eating Pigeons. I'm in the States in Michigan, and my neighbor feeds them and they roost and crap all over my drive. Might just pull out the pellet gun and do some of this!
I admire how this guy does not give a damn while cutting it apart. I know that if I tried this I'd probably vomit or i'd not be able to put the knife in it at all.
Do you not have to pick all the birdshot out of these things? How did you kill them, if not with birdshot? Do you have an easier way of getting birdshot out of them? Does it go right through or get stuck in em? Any response is great, thanks!
When I used to clean mourning doves, I would simply, after plucking, reach under the best bone and pull off the whole breast. Would this not work on pigeons?
A great tip I was told is to wet the bird by dipping it in water before you pluck it. That way the feathers stick together as you pull them and create less mess.
Mr Ski NO! in most towns you will find the Grey Pigeon (commonly known as the feral pigeon). Wood pigeons usually live in woodland areas and usually have larger breasts. Feral pigeons aren't usually worth eating due to poor diet and small breasts.
Senator Armstrong, restoring America to its former glory Couldn't be more British.Unless.The pigeon was wearing a top hat,a monocle and a walking cane, dear boy.many thanks.Scott
Haha, I have to say I've been binge watching your videos for the past few days now and I really enjoy seeing how certain cuts are made and exactly where in the animal they come from. I'm thinking about getting into hunting soon so hopefully I can make some use of the skills you taught me. Cheers from across the Atlantic.
Hi Scott In Canada we have a quick way to dress a game bird. It results in a cleaned breast , no feathers or mess. After I learned this I never plucked or cleaned a bird. You just stand on the wings and pull on the legs. Everything is removed, and you are left with a cleaned skinless breast with wings attached. Remove the wings, and you are go to go! Cheers
After filming the scene in Home Alone 2 when Harry and Marv are swarmed with pigeons, Daniel Stern would probably appreciate tasting a pigeon that is actually cooked
hiya mate have you got an email I would like to send u a pic and clarify something for me to end this conspiracy on whether I've got a young woody or a stock dove, getting a lot of grief and tbh after watching ya vid ive prepared it and I just wanna get the f###ing thing eaten
Now that you've wasted a lot of the meat, the next thing you do is to soak the meat in milk over night to remove that liver taste. The soak in clear cool water for an hour of so.
im sad that such a nice bird is killed for food but also i appreciate that you share a very informative and educational video on how to properly dispatch game.
if not the birds fault poo in cars , pigeons are here for millions of years way before the humans, cars and buildings. so they have rights to be around if you have a nice car like I have one pay private parking or simple don't parking under a tree that is what I do and I never have that problem.

They called it squab, didnt they? At least in the states, thats the closest thing commercially sold.
@@samsadowitz1724 Squab is a young pigeon that has Never flown and is about 25-30 Days old when slaughtered. Those in the video are NOT Squabs!

hi Scott I just wanted to ask are there any diseases in pigeons tat could affect humans..great video by the way very informative
Thanks for the video. I'm curious about how game is generally prepared here in the UK; is it bled, or does it bleed out after being shot?

Young pigeon, that used to be raised and sold to restaurants, was called squab. The common pigeon used to be known as the rock dove.
Are the frames any good for stock? Would seem a shame not to make soup or something out of the leftover bits.

Sure, and you can go grocery shopping in your local city park, by the statues.

So is it like a bad idea to eat city pigeons? I mean, they feast on garbage. Where do you recommend catching the pigeons from?
