cos its a comedy. the whole show is a normal life but dumbed down. for example when eddies dad wanted to fire that white cowboy that was clearly bringing in good business just because he wanted mitch back
I disagree, the show eventually embraces his intelligence and streets smarts based on his past experiences he's had to deal with on his own as young kid despite being made fun of by his family for his lack of academic success
I mean... its a half hour comedy sitcom about a goofy funny kid who gets in trouble. You think a show about a well behaved intelligent kid would be more entertaining?
I like how they actually knew stuff about him and his show and books. I hate when people do interview with no research and don't even know the person's name.
The guy is very smart - finished law school but followed his heart. When you can do what you love AND get paid for it, that's when you've made it. Also, props for the Summertime in the LBC reference! Glad Asians are being more accepted by Americans, too.
"words that are to smart for me, must be buzzwords" the word buzzword is a buzzword on it self, and people who use it are dumb and suffer from inferiority complex
Are you saying this in sarcasm... or? Because statistics show overwhelmingly that rehabilitation does not work. The issue with 'punitive punishment' is the US stopped actually punishing a couple generations ago. When actual punishment was a thing, the crime rate in the US was much, much lower.
I don't see Asian folks get love from black people in my neck of the woods. More like refocused hatred. Can't hurt white folks so you go after the next tier, Asian. There isn't love the other way around either though.
As a Papua New Guinean Solomon Island Irishman who was adopted and raised by a Samoan family that lives in Australia, Eddie Huang is a big time inspiration over my sense of identity. Thankyou Eddie you are the fucking man!
i finally found Eddie Huang about 2 weeks ago. i knew the show Fresh off the Boat....but didn't know it was his life. This brutha is deep....on a cultural, hiphop, political and culinary level!! RESPECT to him!!
I totally relate to Eddie. My life was pretty much like his. Growing up with family restaurant, hip-hop, stereotypes and dating of a different race. Love FOB. Much love, Eddie Huang!
Its interesting how I discovered Eddie back when he did his docu series for Vice, Fresh off The Boat and now its turned into a comedy set family show. Eddie is doing his thing right now and I can respect where he came from to where he is going. Keep it pushing Huang!
Eddie. Fellow Hunanese here ;-). Dope interview. Keep on shining with your insight and wit. Knowing that you've been working for the Innocence project, respect is up to the roof.
I respect Eddie a lot. Just in the last 3 months when Asian Americans are finally finding their voice to protest about crappy representations and portrayals in film and TV, Eddie has been there unafraid his whole life. After the whole Chris Rock asian joke at the Oscars (referenced in Fresh off the Boat Seas 2 finale), some Asians used the #oscarssowhite platform to blast blacks for not doing enough to help them. Fair play to him for speaking about Asian anti-blackness as well. That Busta Rhymes track hating on Koreans may have been crass, but it was no lie either. Eddie gets it, I'm sure he has blindspots, but on the whole he's no coward he gets stuck in.
I don't say this for a lot of people but this guy is REALLY easy to understand. Not talking about his accent. For instance most people when they talk I understand like 70% of what they say and used context to figure out the rest because most people suck at expressing themselves. But this guy I can understand 100% without having to think about it.
Awesome conversion. It was real and I loved every minute of it. Honestly.... One of the best I have seen from Hot97. Eddie is cool in my book. Please have him back soon.
The interviewer was surprised that Eddie identifies and aligns with black hip-hop culture. He said he thought people come here and "don't fuck with us, look down on us." Asians are minorities too! Whenever people talk race it's always black or white. We've been called the model minority, the forgotten minority, other nicknames because we don't fit into the norms of being a minority. Other minorities treat us like we're white because we have high median income and secondary education rates, but among whites we're treated like immigrants. Our statistical differences don't make us any less of a minority group with a unique cultural background, identity, and experience of living in America. We go through similar struggles to adapt and assimilate, except we have even less role models and representation in sports, media, and politics. Movies with Asian cast members are usually rewritten to have white actors instead (see 21 and The Last Airbender). If we're in TV shows at all it's usually as a fobby restaurant/laundromat owner for comic relief.
Sunisa Lee just because you are a minority does not automatically mean you are for black people, just like Eddie said in this interview there are many first generation Asian immigrants who are racist against black people, black people are also aware of the fact that Asian communities feel this way. Plus Ebro spoke about the fact that other groups of people never tell black people that we influence them in a positive way or that they look to us to better understand where they might fit in America. So Eddie being part of a group that does not outwardly show love to black people, and he is genuinely speaking about his love for hip hop when he was growing up is surprising in a good way, just like how he heard wutang referencing Chinese culture surprised him in a good way
BirdsEyeViewCaCaww I'm not talking about Asians being "for/against" African Americans. I'm saying we're all minorities and we're linked by that unique identity experience. Whether or not we recognize the common link is another thing.
Sunisa Lee, your previous comment specifically addresses Ebro being surprised at Eddie and your response to that surprise is that "Asians are minorities too" As if to say that Ebro shouldn't have been surprised because Eddie is also a minority. You go on for the rest of your post explaining how Asians are also minorities and how that should be recognized. Explain to me how you think my comment on Asians not recognizing the common link of African Americans being a minority group, and Ebros personal experience with that which lead to his surprise; does not fit into the framework of your initial statement. How suddenly "whether we recognize that common link is another thing" in this context ?
I barely knew this dude. Saw a few videos of him as a cook and going around restaurants but now I have BIG respect for him. I saw him law down facts when talking to a Trump supporter on his channel and it was dope. I like him. I'm gonna look him up to get his books and shit. Respect.
This was actually a really interesting interview. Eddie seems like a genuine, true-to-himself kind of guy and it's cool to see how articulate he is as well. Great interview.
usually if the interviewee is cool the interview usually is going to be good IF the interviewers are smart enough to just have a conversation with them instead of asking generic ass bullshit. When they want to be HOT97 can have interesting interviews, but their mad inconsistent where TBC brings out the best in the shittiest interviewee's
thanks Eddie for putting our faces and stories on. my parents and a lot of relatives are of the fob era. it's sad to say that when they are gone, the old school acts of love goes with them :/ respeks.
As an asian american, I could relate to this so well, especially how introducing our culture is like how Americans perceive us as Panda Express eating citizens. Also he a REAL one if u start listening to Michael Jackson to Rap. That's the transition I went through.
Great, insightful interview--an interview that stayed on topic and didn't use shock value to make it more "interesting." Cross-cultural experiences define our American identity. It takes a village to understand that fact. Keep at it Eddie.
For me being a first gen Indian (grew up here since i was 2 yrs old) hiphop always had an acceptance door for people that weren't "Average" the entire culture brought people of all kinds together and was never afraid to say anything. It was the closest media outlet that we had to relate to racism (Even though no rapper said #IndianLivesMatter) but it was the fact we could understand one another.
I don't know who this cat is (I do now) but "I ride for him" now. He's so intelligent and articulate and everything he said about finding your identity through hip-hop for those of us born outside our home country, really runs true and deep with me.
He is crazy as hell, will act a fool at any given notice and say whatever he wants without a filter... But dude is the realest person in the game. Mad smart.
I lived in Orlando for a while as a kid. Every time Eddie made a mix tape I know he was listening to 102 Jams! That was the hip hop fm station in Orlando in the early 90s. They had the thunderstorm for hard hip hop and the quite storm for slow jams. It was my best friend when I moved to Orlando.
im from Winnipeg and fuck..when i heard of Wu-tang ...i was wtf. Then seeing there video on the BOX,mind blown. As a chinese guy...seeing Wu-Tang...made me love hip hop even more. Black community and the hip hop culture really changed many asian kids around the world and i really get where Eddie comes from. His story really reflects alot of my story.
Eddie is really a lawyer. He passed the bar and the whole nine. But left law to pursue his passions one of which being food. A Peace To You Panda God. Peace to that God's.
Huang a straight up dude I didn't care for him coming to Detroit pissin on the ground and sht. But when I saw him recently in Orlando and this dude was bossin this Chinese girl around and he kinda checked old boy about it that sht was official.
yea i didn't like that it took me a while to let it pass but he's somewhat knowledgeable about certain stuff that's fked up. You from the D @imani Etay
yea i didn't like that it took me a while to let it pass but he's somewhat knowledgeable about certain stuff that's fked up. You from the D @imani Etay
I respect Eddie so much. And love these hosts on the show! Nice work ❤ I’m Brazilian and although I can’t relate to their experience in America, I can feel this identity talk with my soul
Eddie is brilliant but he keeps it real. He's like one of those dudes you can talk to about virtually any topic and he would be able to hold his own. Mad respect.
man I heard about the show and looked up this guy and I got mad respect for Eddie he's on his hustle I'm a immigrant too but came here when I was 3 months old so I get everything he's saying
I don't think there's any writer who's happy with the way their work is adapted for stage or screen - but they still cash that check! That said, I really like this guy and they way he thinks.
I know growing up in Australia with Italian parents, first time I went to Italy, I realised, "I'm not Italian". I've got their influence, but being raised in a totally different place, it's strange. You're never totally one or the other.
Eddie is this best person ever. I liked his Jamaican trip...he knew all the info about the black history and jamaica ....and i love his take on been Asian in Miami....and him eating the hot wings {first we feast}....hilarious
my primary, high school squad definitely relate to this hard. hip hop was like a gateway. we were like stucking looking for our hub in the western world. we weren't black but we were more alike with them than others so we naturally gravitated to it.
Eddie Huang's view on this world, is what unicorns are to reality; Cool to imagine but never actually witnessed by anyone 🦄 His prospective is refreshing and encourages others to assimilate. The only issue is, he represents an idea that many of us have never experienced.
True, but his smart doesn't come out like he's trying which is what impacted me the most; considering I had also only watched him on Huang's World where he's always fooling around with his boys. He has an effortless way of speaking his mind eloquently which I appreciate. But I see where you're coming from
I don't know why they dumbed down the Eddie character in the show, this guy is intelligent af
cos its a comedy. the whole show is a normal life but dumbed down. for example when eddies dad wanted to fire that white cowboy that was clearly bringing in good business just because he wanted mitch back
I disagree, the show eventually embraces his intelligence and streets smarts based on his past experiences he's had to deal with on his own as young kid despite being made fun of by his family for his lack of academic success
I agree but I liked the Eddie character from the show.
Eddie is smart in the series.
I mean... its a half hour comedy sitcom about a goofy funny kid who gets in trouble. You think a show about a well behaved intelligent kid would be more entertaining?
I like how they actually knew stuff about him and his show and books. I hate when people do interview with no research and don't even know the person's name.
Is this sarcasm?
***** No. Why?
Sharp Shooter Oh ahaha idk I don't watch them lol :)
NalaLana123 Well for starters Ebro didn't know Eddie's name, also, Eddie corrected him a few times about his stuff.
***** he didn't know his name?
I like this dude he a real one and not some culture vulture
True. He the real homie.
‼️Very True he is a Great Guy respectful too you need to watch His Show Huang’s World on VICE
Wow the kid the casted in the show resembles him a lot!
The guy is very smart - finished law school but followed his heart. When you can do what you love AND get paid for it, that's when you've made it.
Also, props for the Summertime in the LBC reference! Glad Asians are being more accepted by Americans, too.
accepted
Mohsin Maqsood
*facepalm* thanks
+TemujinKhan8 Facts
He's an AMERICAN. in an ideal world he wouldn't NEED the accepting.
I hate hearing stories like this. He already was on the path to privilege, but took the spot from someone else.
eddie is cool af and articulate got to respek it
former lawyer.
He's not that smart
+DAB123 so is your name.
+bak one u better put some respek on my name before I send u bak to where u came from
Dennis Feng pull back.......my foreskin
Quality post. A sociological perspective on social issues in America, good shit. I've always respected Eddie, keeping real.
"words that are to smart for me, must be buzzwords" the word buzzword is a buzzword on it self, and people who use it are dumb and suffer from inferiority complex
Eddie threw too much knowledge that kept Laura silent for a loooong time
you are right. she is dumb. if it wasnt for looks she would be fucked in life
***** no shit sherlock. why would i say it if it wasnt my thought. she is somebody to you nobody to me.
***** awww!!! muuuah!!!
***** ofcoarse why wouldnt i be
That's a communications major for you...they don't know shit. Easiest major in college. Absolutely no credibility...
His part about punitive punishment being ineffective and rehabilitation as an alternative is on point
lmfao
Are you saying this in sarcasm... or?
Because statistics show overwhelmingly that rehabilitation does not work. The issue with 'punitive punishment' is the US stopped actually punishing a couple generations ago.
When actual punishment was a thing, the crime rate in the US was much, much lower.
As a half japanese I can relate to what eddie said, I grew up in a black neighborhood and Ive always appreciated the love we got from them.
that's beautiful.
you are half japanese and half what?
half french canadian, I grew up in montreal
We luh the Asian community fam
I don't see Asian folks get love from black people in my neck of the woods. More like refocused hatred. Can't hurt white folks so you go after the next tier, Asian. There isn't love the other way around either though.
Cafelogis Damn, that sucks dude. I know what you speak of though. I live in the South. It's fucking ass backwards...
As a Papua New Guinean Solomon Island Irishman who was adopted and raised by a Samoan family that lives in Australia, Eddie Huang is a big time inspiration over my sense of identity. Thankyou Eddie you are the fucking man!
awesome
Wow, you sound like you have an extraordinary life.
damn uce, you should write a book. lol keep it pushin.
alright captain specific
The point is to be specific. And proud of it.
i finally found Eddie Huang about 2 weeks ago. i knew the show Fresh off the Boat....but didn't know it was his life. This brutha is deep....on a cultural, hiphop, political and culinary level!! RESPECT to him!!
Eddie Huang snapped ! he described the whole system and generation in one video
I totally relate to Eddie. My life was pretty much like his. Growing up with family restaurant, hip-hop, stereotypes and dating of a different race. Love FOB. Much love, Eddie Huang!
I learned more from this interview about identity and culture than any college class has ever taught me
Its interesting how I discovered Eddie back when he did his docu series for Vice, Fresh off The Boat and now its turned into a comedy set family show. Eddie is doing his thing right now and I can respect where he came from to where he is going. Keep it pushing Huang!
this is one of the better hot 97 vids this year. I wish they would stay in this type of lane.
Hot 97 gets the W today, this some dope ass content.
Even with Ebro mispronouncing Eddie's name the whole time and Laura not correcting him? Eddie's cool though.
+RinaPinxz22 bro you're petty af how is that going to take away from the sheer quality of the rest of the content we just saw in 35 minutes?
po It's jokes lol, it's still an W worthy interview. But it was annoying though.
eddie and joe rogan podcasts are lit too.
I'm a huge fan of eddie but I seriosly can't stand Joe, he talks so much bullshit.
Eddie is the guy. This was a really insightful interview. Thanks
Lmao "drake looking Persian and sounding Jamaican."
Damn! I haven't seen an interview so full of useful and inspirational talk for a longtime. This is useful material
I came here after binge watching all available seasons of FOTB and I love this guy.
this guy is intelligent, I like his perspective
Host keeps calling him "Wang"; its Huang (Wong)..put some Respek on his name
Technically.... it's sorta correct in Cantonese.
@@voltekkmugurama4917 I meant spelling wise, but not phonetically wise.
Mr. Allmighty Cornholio but the person who commented in the first place was spelling it as how he was saying it.
It’s pronounced huang (hwang)
Eddie. Fellow Hunanese here ;-). Dope interview. Keep on shining with your insight and wit. Knowing that you've been working for the Innocence project, respect is up to the roof.

Eddie is so dope, this interview was very interesting! Love his show on viceland.
As an asian american, I could relate to this so well, especially how introducing our culture is like how Americans perceive us as Panda Express eating citizens. Also he a REAL one if u start listening to Michael Jackson to Rap. That's the transition I went through.
i went through the same thing man. my fathers black and was a big michael jackson fan, but i'm also vietnamese mixed.
Great, insightful interview--an interview that stayed on topic and didn't use shock value to make it more "interesting." Cross-cultural experiences define our American identity. It takes a village to understand that fact. Keep at it Eddie.
He talkin nothin but facts. I can tell he been thru a lot
Probably lol we just get detained at the border and any security and never heard of again lololol
Ain't much Indians rappin either.
Yup that too most indian rappers Canadian... and suck LOL
Mexican who moved to Indiana at 8 yrs old.
I totally feel you on that and relate to so many of the things Huang was talking about. He's the realest.

Best Hot97 interview since the Chance the Rapper interview
One of the BEST Interviews. Props!
ay, on the 3rd WANG, i would'a had to correct this nigga, EBro.
it's HWONG, fam
It was my best friend when I moved to Orlando.
yup...every asian knows that uncomfortable uncle who always has something negative to say about blk ppl......
im from Winnipeg and fuck..when i heard of Wu-tang ...i was wtf.
Coolest guy. Also love how Ebro interviews people. So relaxed, people get a chance to talk and be themselves.
I like how Eddie's emphasis is on immigrants
Huang a straight up dude I didn't care for him coming to Detroit pissin on the ground and sht. But when I saw him recently in Orlando and this dude was bossin this Chinese girl around and he kinda checked old boy about it that sht was official.
Soon as I read this and realized he is the dude that disrespected my city I stopped watching. Fuck em.
Was that on Guangdong world?
yea i didn't like that it took me a while to let it pass but he's somewhat knowledgeable about certain stuff that's fked up. You from the D @imani Etay

this is an excellent interview Eddie really holds it down big time
I respect Eddie so much. And love these hosts on the show! Nice work ❤ I’m Brazilian and although I can’t relate to their experience in America, I can feel this identity talk with my soul
How are you going to not correctly pronounce your guest name throughout the WHOLE interview?
Eddie is brilliant but he keeps it real. He's like one of those dudes you can talk to about virtually any topic and he would be able to hold his own. Mad respect.
Hearing a different cultural perspective of rap was really interesting.. 10/10
one of the realist people out there. Nice interview ... you got a new fan Eddie Huang.
Everyone of color needs to watch this!! Guess we're all the same after all! Hope this vid blows up
I love that this guy has confidence, loves hip hop and is pretty g but is also very intelligent and knows his stuff
Eddie is my idol.
man I heard about the show and looked up this guy and I got mad respect for Eddie he's on his hustle I'm a immigrant too but came here when I was 3 months old so I get everything he's saying
I don't think there's any writer who's happy with the way their work is adapted for stage or screen - but they still cash that check! That said, I really like this guy and they way he thinks.
Such a dope interview. Hes got one of the best outlooks on living today. His philosophies are so on point.
I’m so happy fresh off the boat is a thing I love shows like that for example the goldbergs
I know growing up in Australia with Italian parents, first time I went to Italy, I realised, "I'm not Italian". I've got their influence, but being raised in a totally different place, it's strange. You're never totally one or the other.
What he said about Lil B ain't wrong..
He's a cool guy! Props to him for speaking out. Hopefully the show will follow his vision a bit better next season.
That was great. it covered a lot of ground and I want to hear more from Eddie. Time for some digging.
One of their best interviews this year
Eddie is that dude.
Eddie is this best person ever. I liked his Jamaican trip...he knew all the info about the black history and jamaica ....and i love his take on been Asian in Miami....and him eating the hot wings {first we feast}....hilarious
His pops brother came over with an AK 😂 Classic, that's why I fucks with homie. #nhx2 #pause
my primary, high school squad definitely relate to this hard. hip hop was like a gateway.
we were like stucking looking for our hub in the western world. we weren't black but we were more alike with them than others so we naturally gravitated to it.

Eddie Huang's view on this world, is what unicorns are to reality; Cool to imagine but never actually witnessed by anyone 🦄
His prospective is refreshing and encourages others to assimilate. The only issue is, he represents an idea that many of us have never experienced.
Man i wanna do my own interview with EDDIE HUANG
These types of interviews teach me more about society and the so-called criminal justice system than most my teachers.
dude is very smart #respect
everyone is smart, you just have to unleash it my bruh bruh
True, but his smart doesn't come out like he's trying which is what impacted me the most; considering I had also only watched him on Huang's World where he's always fooling around with his boys. He has an effortless way of speaking his mind eloquently which I appreciate. But I see where you're coming from
I love these intellectual interviews. Keep it up HOT97.

Wow, I learned so much! Love the deep discussion and different topics and issues covered! Real talk!
5:50 - 5:56 Ebro lowkey in love with Eddie
Excellent conversation! Thank you so much for sharing this!
He is one of a small percentage of asians who really genuinely messes with blacks....
Eddie, to care is to love, and you did it. I love your grandma who speaks Chinese...and the CD your made for her...was lovely. Thanks Eddie.
