As a young industrial design student at Long Beach State University I had the distinct pleasure of spending a couple of hours with Mr. Shinoda. It was a pleasure spending time with one of the great automotive designers of all time!!!
Very cool concept 60 years ahead of its time. If today’s battery and electric motor technology were available then, it could’ve been perfect. Thanks again Retro. 🙂
This does look pretty cool, and would be right at home in "Star Trek." But Lord help you if you needed to add air to the front tire, much less change a flat. Still, I have to give GM a solid "I" for Imagination. Thanks for sharing this with us! 55th Like.
"This design ensured excellent stability"... truly a statement by someone with no understanding of vehicle stability, probably written by GM marketing.
That Lil blue car in the line up........... Wonder where Smart Car got there styling cues from¿ As for the XP-511 It's F'n Kool GM should of used a Corvair 140 Engine! Instead of an anemic 1.1L Opel engine😮
Love it. The Bond Bug is along similar lines but this is more sophisticated in style.
Great content. Thanks for posting.

Inherently unstable. Put the two wheels up front like the Aptera has done.
Isn't that the same thing that made the Honda ATF so dangerous?
Could have been Vauxhall "'s answer to the Bond Bug.
Where are the running lights?
There is no need for those.
Its shape makes this vehicle impossible to crash.
Take one of those and install a Chrysler Prowler front suspension
