The big moment of suspense happens at the very beginning. From a pitch black screen The Electric Company logo appears, then Rita Moreno hits you from offscreen with Hey You Guys! This makes The Electric Company intro stand out as a timeless classic.
Someone just posted on Facebook to name a TV series with a great theme song. This theme song which is my all-time number one favorite immediately came to my head. It's very uplifting.
That brings back memories of my childhood. I was watching it when I was a young boy when it came out. I always thought that Morgan Freeman was great in that show. Thanks for posting.
What A Time 1977! When Childrens' Education Public TV was actually fit to watch with True Family Values! Love Morgan Freeman and Rita Moreno! Better Quality Copy as well! Thank-You For Sharing and God Bless!
There were 3 distinctly different versions of the theme song, each of which was used for 2 seasons. I only saw the last 2 seasons (mostly in reruns) on PBS, so this was the intro that I knew. I never saw the previous versions until the Shout Factory DVD's came out.
Loved Skip Hinnatt, making fun of Johnny Cash, singing Back to Boogaloo, feat. Hattie Winston and that hot chick extra as the "Sandy from 'Grease'"-esque background vocalists, dancing to the rythym, and looking with their sexy cat-eyes at the viewers, and turning their backs and shrugging a bare shoulder, during the 2nd verse! 😈🔱🔥
😁That's it, that's what I remember as a kid watching that show on PBS in the 70's & early 80's. Bill Cosby also guest starred there once in a blue moon. Easy Reader, J Arthur Crank, Fargo North Decoder, Jennifer of The Jungle & her gorilla friend Paul, that loudmouth director whose name escapes me, & let's not forget...Spider-Man, whose segments I just watched here on TH-cam this week, I highly recommend. 😌Ahhhhhhh, they just don't make'em like that...anymore.
Easy Reader, J. Arthur Crank definitely was a couple of the show’s highlights, but Cosby never guest starred on the show. The occasional segments with either Cosby or Lee Chamberlin were reaired segments on the 1975-77 episodes that were prerecorded from 1971 to 1973, as Cosby was actually a cast member for the first 2 seasons, as well as Chamberlin.
Giancarlo Esposito aka GUS from Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul is 1 of the singers and maybe in this? I remember this vaguely, although I would have been 1 or 2 years old, but the images are strikingly familiar.
I watched this as a kid in the 1970's. Looking back, it is amazing how much acting talent that was on this show.
I was lucky to grow up with such quality shows - made learning fun

for me its the ringing bells and the kids against a beautiful blue sky...
My God! This brings back memories!! I haven't heard this song since I was 5 years old!! In 1977!! I love it!!
YAS!!!!
@@Thizlamic I hope that a DVD box set comes out with every episode! 2 box sets are just not enough.
@@georgemaster689 I recall a DVD box set released yrs ago. It's out there somewhere🤔.
Gosh darn I loved this show when I was a little kid

I just love the Electric Company it will always be my third favorite show right behind Between the Lions and Sesame Street!!
My fave amongst all pbs kids shows. Helped me learn how to read.
Loved EC!! I must've been watching reruns by June 1978 when I came from the Philippines and not realizing that. Lol.
There is SO MUCH energy in the performance of this tune.
Just listen.......(sigh).
Gosh darn I loved this show when I was a little kid.....
This use to be on in New Zealand in the 70's, this theme is so familiar even though haven't heard it since then.

You have to love those chimes and echo.
Watched this all the time as a kid of the 70s. Even back then as a little kid I thought the theme song was one of the best on TV.

Some of Morgan Freeman's finest work.
I was probably the last generation to watch the last of the reruns when I was 5 years old in 1985.
Morgan Freeman and Rita Moreno became big time Hollywood stars
Rita Moreno was already a Hollywood Star, winning an Academy Award for best supporting actress in 1961 for West Side Story.
I just love the electric company!!

Bill Cosby is now on the Cosby show, Hattie Winston is on Becker, Rita Moreno is on Nina's World and One Day at a Time!!
