  • A road that runs through the Japanese Alps (one of the snowiest places in the world) accumulates 20 meters of snow each winter. And somehow, it gets cleaned. But how do the Japanese handle such an amount of snow at Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route?

I am curious how sections of the walls of the snow canyon do not suddenly collapse killing tourists and trapping vehicles?

Most of the snow is compacted and feels more like ice. This greatly reduces the risk of landslides. Indeed, I found no information about these snow walls ever collapsing. But of course, there are always risks, and this applies to any natural attraction.
