I only paid $850 for mine. It had a 3" scruff mark on the side and the manager give ma a 15% mark down on it. Happy Fathers Day to me!!! Thanks for sharing this video. Hope you keep posting more on this kayak.

Can you remove the pedals and just use the paddle if your in a shallow section of a river? Would I need to build a plug for the hole that would create?
Yes you can remove the pedals pretty easy, I have done it many times when the grass is on the prop. It does come with a foam piece to place in the hole for the pedals and does fit tight.
Magellan's kayaks are made by Dagger. It is owned by Pelican. Most people don't know this but Pelican owns a ton of kayak companies including Wilderness Systems and Perception. Riot isn't owned by Pelican and it doesn't work with Academy. Moreover nothing Riot makes is remotely similar to Magellan's line of kayaks. Right now, FeelFree has a pedal system where you can insert a round piece (basically it is a battery), and it disengages the pedal system to make the drive into an electric drive system. They have a pedal kayak right now for under $1k. It is called the Flash. FeelFree is the only company I know with wheel in skeg technology and their deck is lined with plexiglass so that you can firmly stand up to fish without negatively impacting the plastic kayak...not that I stand up to fish when I am in a kayak. I do like the transducer protector. I don't know of many kayak companies offering that. Most offer a way to mount a transducer but few have a cover system. That's a neat feature. I wonder how it'd impact the depth finder or if you would need a certain type to work well with it.
If you look at a Riot Kayak and the new Magellan they use the same products. The rudder and the controller for the rudder are identical and also the seat is the same. If you watch Riot Kayak videos on YT you will see the similarity. When I filled out my registration for the kayak the email came back from the company called Kayak Distribution. "We manufacture the brands Riot Kayaks, Riot Paddle boards, Boreal Design, Beluga Outdoor Gear". Straight from their website. Maybe Dagger made them prior to this year.
@@bigtoutdoors absolutely that's possible! Looking at what was on the video and Riot...that's definitely a Dagger. The drive, design, etc. is all different on the video from Riot. What I find to be so crazy is I live along the Gulf Coast. The Pensacola Academy never has Magellan pedal kayaks out...all Pelican and Pelican-owned brands. Frankly,, I am waiting for Pelican to buy out Riot, P&H Sea Kayaks (makers of Quest), and Hoodoo. Pelican has been on a buying frenzy lately.
I was just looking at this boat at Academy, Nice review, answered some of the questions I had. Thanks!!! I noticed the black pad you didn't know what it was... is over the transducer location... is it accessible by removing the (plug)?
Very thorough! In the info on that pedal drive? Is it something that is used in other kayaks with proven record or is it novel? Also curious if the prop is easy to get replacements for and/or if it can interchange with an old town prop or some other popular brand. I need to carry a spare… Better order that!
All the research I did on it and I found out it's made by Mako, so getting the parts is probably very easy. The peddle drive I believe just fits the Mako brand and Megallan. My next project is to build a DYI drop in trolling motor where peddle drive goes.
I picked one up a couple of weeks ago. I took it out the same weekend, and the two thump locks for the pedal drive broke. I took it back to Academy but could not return it since I had used it. I had to make two new locks from a 3/4" x 3/4" solid aluminum bar. I took it out again last weekend, and it worked well, but this time, the two locking clamps on the seat kept coming open; I had two use zip ties to keep them from coming open. I like it, but if I could take it back, I would, and I would spend the money on something better, something that I don't have to fix every time I want to use it.
I have not had that problem yet with mine, have had it out quit a few times. Hopefully yours was just a fluke. I do think to make it better you have to do some modifications to it but can't beat the price if you like to tinker like I do.
I think this kayak should be a little cheaper maybe in the $900-$1000 range, only reason I say that is you could get a hoodoo voyager for the same price.
