- This video will show a super simple not complicated way to fix your controller from pressing random keys on your controller more than likely its controlling your arrow keys this fix has to do with steam and a certain setting from big picture mode so I will help you fix it. In less than 1 minute

But they had a steam update so the layout is different now🙃
Sooo here are the new steps.
1. Tap view
2. Go into big picture mode
3. Tap the circle icon between search and power 🔋
4. Tap controller
5. Scroll down till you find Desktop layout. Then Tap on edit.
6. It'll open the page to Current Layout Button. Then click on the box thay has the controller icon.
7. Tap on templates, then change to template Gamepad.

Hey so I figured it out in the new layout. 1.) Hit the settings button 2.)Click the controller tab. 3.) Scroll down where it says desktop layout and click edit. 4.) Click under where it says current button layout. 5.) Click the templates table and select gamepad. 6.) Remember to save the changes. Hope this helps.

@@spyetti ok i dont think i have this issue but i have a issue that i cant seem to figure out. i use a controller on pc, there will be times that it like bugs out mainly in cod an fortnite. like in fortnite when sitting in main lobby where you can invite friends an what not, it wont let me select the thing next to it. ive gone into locker an try to select the skin to the left of the one im using an it wont let me even go on it it will jump over it to the next skin. when i get into a match i will go to aim down sights an a keuboard will pop up on my screen an i have to hit B on my controller to get it to go away. but if i try to aim down sights again it puts the keyboard back on the screen. it also does it when i try to sprint. so as long as i dont ads or sprint it dont pop up. if i restart the game it will keep doing it. if i restart my pc it may or may not fix the issue. an when i stream it does not show the keyboard in my stream so. so i literally have no idea at all what is going on but it is beyond frustrating. especially when i play cod multiplayer lol
@@grimreaper3972 I got rid of the the keyboard somehow like 2 weeks ago but in cod when I jump it opens the chat box and it still skips over things, if u figure out how to fix these things lmk
@@jonjimmyjr1879 I literally have my computer guy looking into it for me. Cause I sent him a quick video of what was happening an he was just dumb founded by what he say happening. An that's sorta like what's happening. It's like the keyboard is popping up for me to type something in chat

for ppl on a newer steam version, this is what worked for me:
Steam > Settings > Controller > Edit Desktop Layout > Current Layout > Templates > Gamepad > Apply

Big Picture's layout has changed, but this still led me in the right direction.
The easiest way is steam> settings> controller> desktop layout (edit)
Then tab through the annoying tutorial until it actually gives you the menu. Click the top button and select "Official layout for - Disabled"

bruh i have been scratching my head for almost a week trying to figure this ish out and this right here just solved overdue problem in less than 5mins. I'm thinking it was my xbox one controller that i have had for years now, never dropped or anything. I even went to the extreme and ordered a new xbox core controller through amazon that i should be getting in the next couple of hours thanks to it qualifying as SAME DAY shipping. You sir just saved me $59 dollars (cost of the xbox core controller with taxes). I will definitely return the controller unless my wife wants a lime green xbox core controller to play mario kart 8 lol... For real tho thank you. Didn't know steam was messing up things to the point of almost giving up. I happened to fall on this video randomly when i entered some key words into this youtube search box. thank you again

Only fix i’ve found and it worked instantly. Been an issue in every single game i play aside from Dark Souls oddly enough. Either way this fixed it and I am super grateful.
To make sure what was your problem because my problem is I can be playing controller for like 10 mins then after it starts bugging and switching the input to keyboard then switching back and it’s stressing me this didn’t work either

for the new big pic mode the way i fixed it was
go to steam
settings
controller
click on general controller settings
for ds4 uncheck ps4 configuration support
for xbox have both xbox configuration support and extended feature support checked
gonna try this when i get home. i was playing cod off steam and just suddenly all the buttons on my controller as i was playing were just all off. acting like a mouse & i just couldn’t figure out why this was happening

Even Kai Cenat had this problem while playing Elden Ring. Weird that steam has not fixed it.

I also just went to Steam -> Settings -> Controller -> Desktop Configuration and just followed this video's instructions of selecting the correct template.

I figured it out and eventually found the layout option. Which did fix the issue. The pc is recognizing the controller as a mouse/keyboard..... So set the layout to gamepad. But yeah, we need an updated video since Big Picture mode has updated it's appearance.
I had this problem when playing nba 2k21 trough epic's launcher. Didn't think this would work but it did. Thanks a lot. The game was unplayable but now it's working perfectly.
FYI this setting is now available outside big picture mode. Fixing in BPM did not fix it for me but the same template fixed it when using normal steam mode. Wouldn't have found it without this video, thanks!

I agree this is dumb
Just go to Settings-Controller and first uncheck the Enable Steam Input box.
If that doesn’t work at the bottom of the controller settings there’s Guide Button Chord Layout. Press Edit Layout and go to each of the functions and disable that function.

I need help. I have been watching many tutorials and looking at many discussions but nothing is working. It doesn't help that the steam menu looks way different than all the tutorials. I have a Xbox controller and it randomly decided to just jerk on over to keyboard inputs and random junk like that. I watched this tutorial and tried to follow best I could with how different the menus looks and such. I swear I got it, but then I launched my game and some buttons worked but most of them were opening up menus and keyboards and stuff. So I really don't know what's going on. I would appreciate some help!
Just install the xbox extendet feature support driver in settings controller

@@squidyfoo2527 okay i found a way from a comment, "That's because you're on the beta branch of steam:
In your account settings, you can uncheck the Beta Participation box, which will take you back to this version of steam." then it should not glitch anymore

absolute W video. for the longest time i had to deal with my ps4 controller acting as my keyboard and mouse for months and i never knew why it did that. even searched up videos and it was 14 minutes of random nothings that had nothing to do with my issue. this is the only video that ACTUALLY fixed my issue

You're a real one for getting straight to the point on the guide. This was driving me crazy. It also taught me that steam has a little thing called guide button chord! If anyone is still having problems, go to big picture mode and in the settings scroll all the way down to guide button chord layout. For some reason steam wouldn't let me completely disable it so what I did was just go through each button and unbind it so it couldn't possibly do anything. I hope this helps someone.

For the update people who aren't finding the menu
You must open big picture and go to options then on the left side click on the controller tab and scroll all the way down it should be there the disposition for the desktop. You click edit and just click ok until the menu actually appear and then you use the community made setups from there

From my knowledge it only happens if your not on the steam launcher. Even tho it’s a steam issue
