"Girl's" song? I'm a straight old white guy (63) who's been a S&P fan since they came out. Shoop's a great song! Music is music and sometimes you have to look at things from the point of view of the artist to fully appreciate it. You don't need to like men to appreciate that women do! That beat and those rhymes make for a great song. If the focus on the men bothered you just think of it as the fact that there are those women out there who would want you that badly.

This came out my senior year of high school. Every chick started having the guts to talk to a dude. Had a girl rap this to me and every chick who was cool was rapping and dancing to this. Good times y'all
Come on guys. No such thing as a guy's or a girl's song. I'm female and I can watch a video with girls in bikinis without being offended or off put, so I'm sure a dude can tolerate a 2 second shot of a guy's clothed butt. Doesn't mean you have to enjoy looking at it, but it doesn't make it a "girl's song" or "not cool." You wouldn't say it's a guy's only song if that same shot was in the video but a girl. Love you guys, but come on.
Everything you said was accurate.. I’m sure with age and maturity they will come to the same conclusion. But can’t deny that these boys are cute as hell. Their innocence and charm makes me smile every time I watch.
I posted in another comment that these two young men are highly respectful and good man I have never seen them objectify women in fact I've never heard them make a negative comment about any song. I think they probably have a good-faith upbringing and just found it a little over-the-top. I think these are nice young man and that's all I'm saying.
@@j.darrel517 I don't disagree with anything you said! My comment was not saying anything negative about them at all. Just that showing a guy's butt in a video doesn't make a song a "girl's song" or "not cool." I'll definitely be continuing to watch their videos as I like them a lot.
I'm a hetero man and loved that part of the video. This whole vid is from the perspective of three ladies who like to talk about sexy guys. Same as a group of male friends who like to check out sexy women. It's that we don't see this perspective nearly as much, which is a shame!
Aww, yeah ladies!! " I wanna thank ya mama for a butt like that.." Lol! Try "What a Man"! And BRAVO for giving these women pioneers respect & recognition!!
That's why this song was so big when it first came out. It was one of the first times that women were speaking truth and treating men how they have treated women for thousands of years.
I know you guys are young but you have some maturing to do. Look at what women wear and how they're portrayed in men's rap videos. This song and video were huge in the 90s because it finally turned the tables and showed that women like to look at and talk about men too. You're really afraid to look at a man in a speedo? Have you never been in a locker room before? You're usually so open minded so it was kind of disappointing how you guys reacted to this.
These two guys are as they are, and I love their authenticity. It’s hard to understand everything in a video and all of its history and context. I love how willing they are to try music.
Definitely need to watch your own responses to this song you can see EXACTLY why this video was done. Now follow it right up NOW - don't wait Salt n Pepa's - Let's Talk About Sex
@@janes.1559 Yes, these ladies were having the most genuine, straightforward & sex-positive conversation about safe sex that the 90s mainstream had ever heard. They fought slut-shaming, unprotected sex, & sexual stereotypes in general.
Hey guys, now you know how it feels when we see women objectified in a music video. I love this video cuz it turned it on its head , great tune to groove. so refreshing after the Non-Stop objectification of the female body in media -
I used to be able to rap this & push it “back in the day”. Last summer at cookout millennials did karaoke. Push it came on. I was quickly noticed in the background & pushed to the microphone😳. Surprisingly remembered most the words😁
You make it sound as if women do not have an option other than to be objectified. Every woman ever that has shaken their body clothed, wearing bikinis or nude was their decision to do so. Whether it be in a music video, stripping their clothes off for money and or tips or if it’s porn. They choose to do it. So don’t act like women are victims in this. Women have used their bodies to their advantage from the beginning of time. If women don’t want to be the center of attention or objectified all they have to say is no. Because in the end it’s all about what a woman or man is willing to do for money.
Shawn perhaps you should research Women’s Rights. (EX: 19th amendment- women granted the right to vote. It’s the 100yr anniversary); 80cents to a dollar; most strippers/prostitutes do it bcuz of kids. It’s been a very slow progression but very much remains a mans world... Look forward to the day where women don’t have to objectify to get ahead. I’m old school- don’t agree with it but understand why; met several-the stories are heartbreaking😥. Far too many judge in today’s society when compassion is what’s truly needed💞

You really should evaluate your reaction to the guy on the beach, if it was a girl you’d be totally into it. They just put the man in the Sex object position for two seconds and you can’t handle it.🤣😂 I mean for God’s sake, they show him barely lean over and instantly, “they shouldn’t have even shot that.” an, “This is definitely a girl’s song!” Omg the hypocrisy! If women acted like that, there would be no popular entertainment as we know it!! I know you guys are are young and there are cultural issues, but damn!
Hahaha, right? I'm like ...but ...but...we just watched most of the video with half dressed chicks and didn't blink. They see a dude in a speedo and were worried they were gay for a second because they saw his bum. In a speedo. 😂😂 Boys are funny.
@@jancw Agree. Also, I didn't see anybody criticizing Jayveetv for doing the exact thing, he looked pissed when that guy appeared. They just were all super positive, saying things like "oh jayvee your so cute, this is my jam!". But twins apparently don't get away with "bad" reactions, they get judged all the time while everybody else gets scott free. C'mon guys, we should be just as positive in comments, support our boys, school them if need be, like giving the song's background, history behind it, fun facts.
Yesss, young men, it IS a woman's song. You think you're the only ones thinking like this? They were the first ones EVER to use the woman's gaze, instead of the male gaze, it was revolutionary, and we didn't get it again for another 25 years till Lizzo. And don't pretend like you don't know what shoop means...
In the 90's we all knew that when they said I wanna shoop, they were saying I wanna f**k, but they knew that it wouldn't get air play on the radio or video channels if they said that so they said oooooh yeah I wanna shoop baby lol
You should definitely react to Whatta Man. It has some of the best lyrics of all Salt-N-Pepa songs and was the first to feature a verse by their DJ, Spinderella.
I literally have not not heard this song in decades, completely forgot it even existed, but the second she started rapping I knew every word like I'm still that teenager who just heard it yesterday. How can songs stay so clearly in our memories like that, when so much else fades or gets twisted? Anyway, thanks for the little trip down memory lane, obviously this is a classic, loved it then and I love it again!
Shoop was so good! Salt n Pepa were/are great. This was a fantastic thirst song. I loved how they had a guy singing the hook. That was revolutionary then.

Hi darlings these ladies were trying to make their way in a male dominated musical genre hip hop during that period was difficult for women they were portraying what was happening from a woman's point of view during that period. I know you guys are learning about music of the past but remember all music has a back story I encourage you to research some history on some of the hip hop group's starting with the 70"s on down you'll learn so much but also do the knowledge on DJ Kool Herc not a lyricist but rhyming came by the way of use of turntables and breakbeats the ole lady loves y'all !!!
Loved Salt N Pepa back in the day. Always showed that women can look at men and appreciate them. Especially when rap videos by men became ridiculous and basically portrayed women as pieces of meat. Oh yeah, I forgot, they STILL DO. Thanks for posting.
I taped this song off the radio. It had half of a commercial on the end lol. My best friend and I sang along repeatedly. This blew our minds. Salt & Pep...& Spindarella....pioneers.
These two young men are too adorable in their reactions! It makes me smile to watch them. A girls song indeed! I cracked up when they showed the guy stripping out of his pants and both boys turned away from the screen!!!! LOL
Wow I realize how sexualized the music I grew up to was back then. Something cool about the 90s was no cell phones, that’s why they’re at the beach looking around, hanging out, filled with excitement lol that was the 90s, we had to stay busy outdoors and find stuff to do, now good or bad depended on the person
Women of the 80's and 90's were iconoclastic and fierce; like this girl rap group. They were shattering glass ceilings all over the place in ways that go without notice today.
I looooove this song!! I was a teenager in the 90s and this song was our frickin anthem! Know all the words! Also was a very empowering song, gave us courage to go talk to the boys 😂
Lol it's hilarious that you can't stand 1 second of a dude being a sex object, but you don't even notice when it's women being objectified in almost every music video ever.
I think these two young men are very good guys and really appreciate all kinds of music. I respect their opinions a lot. I believe the issue is homophobia. They were enjoying the music and when the video started showing men's bodies it was as if they got caught looking at them. They had an instant reaction of shame. This needs to be gotten over. The instant escape was calling it a woman's video and song. It's so unnecessary. They are young men and them viewing this isn't a weakness or indication of anything about them. If you're really comfortable with your own sexuality this video shouldn't bother anyone in the least.
i totally agree. they might grow past it. there's a lot of homophobia pushed on young men, but there's so much more to the world and i hope they are able to get there. society needs to do better by everyone.
You should do a reaction video to the song they did with En Vogue: “Whatta Man”, which is a banger! Then, you should do a video reacting to “O.P.P” by Naughty By Nature, which is another bangin’ song and is linked to Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue as the lead singer Treach, was married to/dated Pepa, and he had a cameo in the “Whatta Man” video too.
I loved them back in the day. In the nineties it was the decade for women coming into their own power- so much of music reflected that- Rap, r&b, the riot grrrl movement, even pop. And Salt-n-Pepa were the group that took their own sexuality under control and they said "this is who we are" and they weren't apologetic about it. It was really important, looking back.
Ya'll cracked me up when you looked grossed out by the guy bending over on the beach! LOL!! Loved it! And it's not a girls song; perhaps a girls video. I loved Salt N Pepa and it's great that they are still touring. I'm so happy you young guys are exploring all types of music. Kudos!
It's a definitely girls song, which can be enoyed by men as well without feeling too embarrassed, like Sade's music. Who cares outside US if they're touring? If they put out another album, THAT would be something. But they're now an "oldies act", so it won't happen.
Best thing about it being a "Girls" song is that hopefully, you get to see a bunch of hot girls gettin down to it which makes you groove just as much. Salt & Peppa were pure talent and hit the scene with a vengeance and took over.

That moment when you both turned away and groaned simultaneously. You guys twins or something?? 😂😂😂
Haha.
Yes they are
TLC has some amazing songs.. from the same era🥰😍
90s Feminism: we do who we want, when we want and we're not apologizing for it 💪🏼👄👠
So same as 00 and 10 too
The girls barely dressed doing their moves during the entire video- but then the one dude....their vibe goes ⬇️..🤣😉💛💛✌️
Yall are hysterical! Yall were all smiles until Mr Perfect dropped his pants 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The Queens of the 90's rap game. Salt N Pepa!! They opened the door for women rappers. Love em! ❤
So ICONIC!!
You mean their male producer , who was making most of the music, writing lyrics to songs and banging one of them.
@@DOTHERIGHTTHING1989 no that's not what I mean..😂
You guys are a delight. I am like your one man referral service. Check out McLyte, keep On, keepin'On. Also check out Queen Latiffah's, U.N.I.T.Y & california Dreamin-Mad Range!
@@ceceliasmith5196 I fully agree! They always make me smile!
Haha damn! You guys were just SHUT UP AND STUNNED when Salt came on hahah!
That's why this song was so big when it first came out. It was one of the first times that women were speaking truth and treating men how they have treated women for thousands of years.
Love the facial expressions you both make.
Have to agree....lol...they are young guys though....
I have to agree too. Pretty disappointed.
They we’re getting into it at 1st- liked the girls/dancing, etc😉 changed their mind when the tables turned😂. They’re young-plenty of room for growth😊💞
These two guys are as they are, and I love their authenticity. It’s hard to understand everything in a video and all of its history and context. I love how willing they are to try music.
@Megan Arroyo
~Like, Really!?!
▶They're in their 20's people! C'mon!
▶Be an example!

Do a reaction to what a man by En Vouge These ladies was my generation and my fav of all girl group performers
Definitely need to watch your own responses to this song you can see EXACTLY why this video was done.
Now follow it right up

Salt n Pepa's - Let's Talk About Sex
YES!! My all time favorite by them.
Damn. Let’s Talk About Sex and Push It were my faves back in the day. S&P had so many hits back in the day
And Ladies First by Queen Latifah! 🙌 th-cam.com/video/8Qimg_q7LbQ/w-d-xo.html
They need to listen, really listen to None of your Business. Learn from salt, pepa and spin
@@Halfcrowindian, Good on you!
Ain't NUTHIN like 90s R&B and Hip Hop
Sitting home alone, laughing out loud at the two of you turning your heads when the guy in the suit bends over! LOL
Love your videos, I've been trying to watch them all; I often recommend your channel to friends. If you have already posted a review for the 1979 hit
"Rapper's Delight," by The Sugarhill Gang I will find it but just in case it has slipped by you please add it to your ( Yet To Be Reviewed ) list. And of course, thank you for all you do; you have entertained so many during this crazy time.
You guys need to see salt n pepa what a man
You really should evaluate your reaction to the guy on the beach, if it was a girl you’d be totally into it.
They need to be them, they know their mama if the bomb!
Hahaha, right? I'm like ...but ...but...we just watched most of the video with half dressed chicks and didn't blink. They see a dude in a speedo and were worried they were gay for a second because they saw his bum. In a speedo. 😂😂 Boys are funny.
Ikr??!!?
I don't understand.
Viewers accuse people of giving fake reactions, but when someone gives a real one apparently that's wrong too?
@@jancw Agree. Also, I didn't see anybody criticizing Jayveetv for doing the exact thing, he looked pissed when that guy appeared. They just were all super positive, saying things like "oh jayvee your so cute, this is my jam!". But twins apparently don't get away with "bad" reactions, they get judged all the time while everybody else gets scott free. C'mon guys, we should be just as positive in comments, support our boys, school them if need be, like giving the song's background, history behind it, fun facts.
That was how rappin' was........REAL!!! They were the hottest girl rappers along with Queen Latifah, TLC, Da Brat......HOT!!!! SHOOP 😍😍😍😍😜😜😜😜😜!!!!!!
Ashley Stewart You mean Da Bratatatat? 😉
HEAVY D.!!!! Now That We Found Love & She’s Got Her Own Thang
They are in Coney Island Beach, Brooklyn. Loved Salt & Pepper always fun fearless girl music. I think that was their last big hit.
This is HYSTERICAL. Loved the boys' reactions to the boys. CLASSIC. Good fun!
You may enjoy None of Your Business, also from salt-n-pepa 😜
My favorite s-n-p song!
YES the best
"If I wanna be a freak and sell it on the week~end"? Lol!! Love it!
OHHHH!! I forgot that one. Thanks... gonna go listen.
Love that one!!!
Now there's a blast from the past, they were a cool rap group, my fave was a song called whatta man. 😎👌
Shoop was so good! Salt n Pepa were/are great. This was a fantastic thirst song. I loved how they had a guy singing the hook. That was revolutionary then.
Justified and Ancient by The KLF Featuring Tammy Wynette
Back to Life by Soul II Soul
Now that We Found Love by Heavy D and the Boyz
Yes! Back to Life by Soul II Soul, yes, yes, yes.
All of their stuff, so many female artists in the 90's ( and 70's and 80's lol), were pioneers but they really were on top of it! Would love to see you do more of their stuff or TLC, Missy Elliott...too many to name!
C’mon you know how many bikini clad women I have had to watch? Toughen up.
Salt & Pepa are a classic! They were one of the best amongst female rap artists!!
You seem to like songs with a good guitar & that tell a story. React to Hotel California by the Eagles.
"Shoop, I don't know what that means".
Neither did we, but we were there for it...
...and we loved every second.
You guys had me cracking up when you both turned your heads at the same time, I fell out laughing!!😂😂
You guys make this quarantine so much more enjoyable! Thank you 🙏🏻❤️
ditto much respect
This song is my jam!! Saw them live a couple years ago they still got it!!
Loved Salt N Pepa back in the day. Always showed that women can look at men and appreciate them. Especially when rap videos by men became ridiculous and basically portrayed women as pieces of meat. Oh yeah, I forgot, they STILL DO. Thanks for posting.
En Vogue, Don’t let go is a fantastic song, wonderful voices. Blew my speakers listening to that song.
Parliament Funkadelic One nation under a groove!!
You have to hear another girl rapper, listen to the Queen as in Latifah.
"U.N.I.T.Y." or "Latifah's Had It Up 2 Here" she was one of the very original hip hop artists
💯 Ladies First by Queen Latifah!!
Women of the 80's and 90's were iconoclastic and fierce; like this girl rap group. They were shattering glass ceilings all over the place in ways that go without notice today.
I was in 7th grade when this came out (I'm old) and this was one of those songs that us boys secretly listened to.
What up guys! I just saw you on TV! Sending much love! Love the channel, great content!
If you're really comfortable with your own sexuality this video shouldn't bother anyone in the least.
i totally agree. they might grow past it. there's a lot of homophobia pushed on young men, but there's so much more to the world and i hope they are able to get there. society needs to do better by everyone.
love these twins...so adorable. funny they snap off beat al the time too
You should do a reaction video to the song they did with En Vogue: “Whatta Man”, which is a banger!
Ur reactions when the dude took off his pants....PRICELESS!!😆....
EN VOGUE 'Givin him something he can feel'...
Love from L.A.✌😎
You need to do some TLC😍🥰
I loved them back in the day. In the nineties it was the decade for women coming into their own power- so much of music reflected that- Rap, r&b, the riot grrrl movement, even pop. And Salt-n-Pepa were the group that took their own sexuality under control and they said "this is who we are" and they weren't apologetic about it. It was really important, looking back.
You damn straight, this was for the ladies....all those fine brothers! Women are always scoping and critiquing the men....don't get it twisted!
Everyone (old enough lol) absolutely was playing the holy Moses out of it!!! It was WONDERFUL!!! Again good job.
If you want to hear peak salt n pepper in their baddest check out “none of your business”
THISSSS X1000
Ya'll cracked me up when you looked grossed out by the guy bending over on the beach! LOL!! Loved it! And it's not a girls song; perhaps a girls video. I loved Salt N Pepa and it's great that they are still touring. I'm so happy you young guys are exploring all types of music. Kudos!
It's a definitely girls song, which can be enoyed by men as well without feeling too embarrassed, like Sade's music. Who cares outside US if they're touring? If they put out another album, THAT would be something. But they're now an "oldies act", so it won't happen.
2 Live Crew, that's all I'm gonna say. Go see for yourself!
Best thing about it being a "Girls" song is that hopefully, you get to see a bunch of hot girls gettin down to it which makes you groove just as much. Salt & Peppa were pure talent and hit the scene with a vengeance and took over.
This is equality.....90’s style.....
Salt n Pepa are pioneers! They always had a message songs that definitely reflected 90's! And the songs still fresh!
LMDAO!! "girl song"..
you KNOW what "shoop" means.. lol
These ladies are the best!
Luv this song
A girl song? They flipped the script on all y'all men - take it!
Yep, def one of my all-time favourites! Saw them and Naughty by Nature live on stage in Frankfurt, Germany, "back in the days" ...
Do En Vogue "Free Your Mind". Another powerful female group :)
Try out Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway “I Who Have Nothing”. Get ready to pass out! Love you guys so much!
Loved Salt-N-Pepa! Loved looking at all the "eye candy" 💓
