Hi Jennifer! For those who can't afford this kit, there is an alternative. Use double sided tape on tin foil cut into strips to replace the copper strips. If you have access to a cheap set of LED christmas lights, you can strip them down to individual bulbs with 2 wires from each (or use a short string of bulbs). They may not be as flat but you can always do a thick front panel. There are cheap batteries sold everywhere, diy stores, dollar/euro/pound stores etc. I've done 3D box cards this way too.
I ordered these stamps this morning and watching the video makes me SOOOO EXCITED to get the kit and make one for my grandsons. What a sweet idea!!! Wow!! I can hardly wait!! Thanks Jennifer - you are such a great teacher to learn from.
Such a fantastic card! I think they would be fun for the children. Remember when there used to cards like these? At the time though there was a lot off wires and other things hidden. My point, all what's (that's) old is new again!? Such a fun card to make! I am always looking to expand my knowledge with a new technique. I sure appreciate you keeping us up to date with the newest items and techniques! Blessings. Lisa
Hi Jennifer, I just wanted to drop a note saying how I love that after years of crafting, I watch your videos and always learn something new! I've recently started a channel and can only hope for the success you've had! you are truly an inspiration and I love seeing all your tips, many thanks and please keep sharing! :) xx
You have great videos, Jennifer. You are very good at explaining how to make something. I still need to buy these lights, but i bought the tape and batteries already. I love the light up cards. And you color so wonderfully. Thanks for sharing this with the world.
I have wanted to try these lights for awhile now.....so glad you took the time to really explain how to do it. I am on my way to purchasing some. Thanks Jennifer!!! You inspire me!!!!!
I love this. I too, have been holding back doing a light up card because of the cost, but they look so fun, I may have to break down and do it. But...winning a Chibi Tronics kit would be even better and oh so awesome. So thank you Jennifer for offering such a great give away and as always for doing a great card!!!!
I have had the starter kit for about a year now and have been too intimidated to try it out. Thanks for this great video. You've inspired me to take the plunge!
Hi, Jennifer. After all these months, I'm finally getting around to making light-up cards... great tutorial. If your kids REALLY want to make these cards, Amazon does have SMD LED lights for a good price - pennies apiece instead of several dollars for the brand name. I ordered some of the generic lights, and they work fine. You gave great instructions, and I'll be using your tips. Thanks for all the knowledge you share.
I love your card and I ordered that dragon stamp set because it reminds me of the original 1977 movie Pete's Dragon. I went and seen that movie at the drive in as a kid with my grandparents. It's one of my all time favorite movies.
So Cute!I love making light up cards, and I have used the chibi lights andthey are fantastic...but the price point is a bit high. I did some searching and found that you can buy the tiny little LED lights in many different colors. The lights are 1206 LED lights, I got mine from Amazon. They are basically the same light without the sticker, but work exactly the same way with the circuit you build with the copper tape. Once I have my circuit in place I use a piece of clear tape to hold the light down on the circuit. Jennifer, I love everything you do, you have been such an inspiration to me, Thank You!
Thanks so much for sharing this idea. I've seen other cardmakers use these and I'm definitely going to get some. I think these would be great for children, my Niece is 8 and my nephew is 3, they would both get a kick out of cards like this.
What a wonderful explanation. I am one of these show me, as opposed to reading the directions...kind of people, now I will order new lights And have fun creating with them
I have been looking at these light kits for about a year My Daughter has a pic of her and her boyfriend on Center point tower ( Australia) in the night and the back ground is of all the buildings and that makes it look like stars so I thought light kit behind it would look great. BUT as you said there pricey, in Austraila there even more BUT I think the effect is worth it all. Cutting the tape in half is a great idea didn't know you could do that.
I love your cards. I have been thinking about using these lights on a card for awhile. As for the lights, I found out that you can use your copic markers to color the lights.
HI Jennifer -this is a fabulous card that would please any person - love the idea of light up - but oh so pricey to create - you did a wonderful job with the steps in creating and explaining - thanks for sharing!
So excited to find your site during quarantine! Would be helpful to know measurement of copper tape for this card. Making it for grandson's 6th birthday!
Great card! 😀I just got the chibitronics kit last week, but haven't had an opportunity to make a card yet--that pesky job of mine keeps getting in the way of card making 😜I did make a test circuit and I agree, it's pretty easy to do.
adorable card. Checked the pricing of the led lights, and when I get a set, it will definitely be saved for something very Special! Thanks for sharing this product with us.
I found out by emailing the company, that you can change the color of the lights using your copic markers. So buy the clear and make any color you want.
you're awesome you did a fantastic on the tut. you talk so natural and explain everything I would love to try this...as soon as I know what it costs LOL where do you get the tub with a soon inside for your embossing powder?
She probably made the tub herself. I have made mine by gluing a cable holder inside the lid of a tub. I bought some cable holders on Ebay. They are called Cable Clips or Cable Drops, and just one of them inside the lid is enough to hold the spoon.
HJennifer,i I just love this card! I love all your videos and ideas! I need HELP! I was wondering how you store your wood stamps if you leave them on the blocks or take them off to use with the MISTI? I seem to not get a good stamp image on a lot of my wooden stamps so I was thinking about taking them off. Also I seem to have more storage items than I need because everything I try seems not to work out. Thank you for any suggestions and any other solutions for storing things. My room is 11x11. I feel very over whelmed and frustrated spending more time organizing and I want to create again. If anyone else has ideas I would love to hear from you also. Thank you Jules
I leave mine on wood. And have NO MISTY. Rarely do I have problems stamping an image. I ink up well, checking stamp. I place paper on stamping pad that I've had 15 yrs. they still sell on at ScrapbookingMadeSimple.com. Apple firm pressure all areas of stamp for 20-30 seconds to give time for ink to transfer onto paper. If I do have small area with no image, I use Memento fine tip marker to draw it in by hand. If it was something I was adding embossing powder to I go ahead and heat set what worker and them use fine tip embossing marker to fix that, apply powder and reheat that area.
I haven't bought anything specific for my stamps. I reuse plastic containers that I buy tomatoes or lettuce from costco. I store stamp by categories--birds, cats, dogs,, flowers, ect and the holidays--birthday, Valentine's Day, Easter, ect. I have a binder with either stamped image or Xerox copy of every stamp in category it belongs. I write who makes the stamp and what shelf and what container container its in. I've filled 7 shelves in a 6' hi x 4' wide cabinet(secondhand and painted) and one shelf of open bookcase. I'm still working on my room but it doesn't keep me from being creative. I haven't figured where to store my stencils but I'll figure it all out. Because I live in earthquake country, like like majority of my stuff in closed cabinets I think the process of organizing is an ever going thing as u get more stuff. I'm trying to use up my stuff before I get new stuff. Make what u have work and use what u have. Then get your mojo working on what u love to do. 😘
You've made it look very easy. I'd love to try, but I must say the light kit is pretty pricey. That, along with the extended time to create this card, ensures that the recipient is a VERY special person!
Didn't get my comment in after watching the first time. Such a cute card and love that you put the battery under the dragons belly. Due to costs and time would have to be a very special person to make this for. Can think of many uses for the lighting to add interest to many cards. Thanks for the giveaway. Hope I win.
Such a great card! Love the cute little Dragon.. :-) Unfortunately the chibitronics Set is way too expensive in Germany.. Maybe I'll figure out another way.. :-(
This seems really fun and the card is very cute. Is there a specific reason for not having the battery "house" open to the left and just make two straight lines with the copper tape? Love the card anyway :)
Thanks for answering. I really hope I didn´t sound snotty, that was not my intention, but when I read my comment now I realized it may have seemed that way. I´m a big fan of yours and really want to learn. Thanks!
Great card but u r correct. They R pricey!! I used to like cards that u could push area of card for music. Haven't seen those in years but commercial cards still have some. I found one with "White Xmas" song in my stash that had to be 10 yrs old but still worked. Do u know where to get those? Thanks
Just love your videos but I am struggling to connect to your website at the moment. Are you having issues? I was wandering through the Hero Arts blog hop from Aug 1 and a couple of other sites were not loading properly either (including no pictures in Hero Arts). I am wondering if there is something going wrong because of that hop??? Just thought I would alert you. I don't think it's my computer/connection as the rest of my internet sites are working. I have really enjoyed watching your videos since discovering your site. Hi from Australia!

Very cute and unique. They are out of stock already. I guess the price didn't stop card makers. I love your little dragon. So cute.
I have wanted to try these lights for awhile now.....so glad you took the time to really explain how to do it. I am on my way to purchasing some. Thanks Jennifer!!! You inspire me!!!!!

Thanks, I've watched several light up card tutorials and yours is the first one that actually made sense and gave me the confidence to try it. :)
I love your card and I ordered that dragon stamp set because it reminds me of the original 1977 movie Pete's Dragon. I went and seen that movie at the drive in as a kid with my grandparents. It's one of my all time favorite movies.

You've made it look very easy. I'd love to try, but I must say the light kit is pretty pricey. That, along with the extended time to create this card, ensures that the recipient is a VERY special person!
agree!
You can buy all of these supplies for much cheaper! You can buy a very long strip of led lights at Walmart or on Amazon for dirt cheap.
do they have adhesive on them?
no but you can use glossy accents and it works fine
Just a ton of AWESOME!!!! Love this.

This seems really fun and the card is very cute. Is there a specific reason for not having the battery "house" open to the left and just make two straight lines with the copper tape? Love the card anyway :)
one end of the cooper tape needs to touch the + and one needs to touch - of the batery.
Thanks for answering. I really hope I didn´t sound snotty, that was not my intention, but when I read my comment now I realized it may have seemed that way. I´m a big fan of yours and really want to learn. Thanks!
