  • Planning video for the Adelaide O-Bahn made in 1982 before construction of the actual kerb guided busway. It shows use of the bus demonstration track and planning principles to be applied to building the OBahn. Issued as part of the October 1988 Guided Bus Seminar in Adelaide.

I worked on this busway and a very German born German who was a Australian citizen when construction began. Because I worked for the Construction Company Baulderstone Hornibrook Adelaide. I worked as an German interpreter for the German company who constructed the Adelaide O-Bahn. I had the great experience working on this fantastic project in South Australia.

Still travelling on it. The best infrastructure built in Adelaide. It cuts my commute time in half. Such a flexible system

Thanks for posting. Great behind the scenes info for someone like me who was in year 8 going to high school in the city in 1986 and facinated by this new 'o-bahn' thing. I took many rides on it after school even though I lived in Adelaide Hills! Also wonderful to capture the cars, people and landscape of the period. Cheers.

This looks more like it was made in the mid-80’s than 1982. The footage shows the actual O-Bahn Stage 1 track route in testing, not the demonstration track. That wouldn’t have been a possibility in 1982. Also they mention work done in the years since then.

2020 its bumpier and slower. it used to be very fast during the late 80's and 90's

It's still relatively quick. Speed limit is down to 90 and 80km/h though

This and other videos outline many benefits but, why in 40 years have their been barely any other o bahns? I can only find Cambridge England?

Should have built a railway, everything is a band-aide measure in Adelaide
