  • In this video I show you how to make a wood sign and carve outset numbers in a cloud background. This is an easy technique that looks spectacular. I carved this wood sign with a handheld router and a 60 degree and 90 degree bit.
    I buy my bits from the following places, I'll leave the links here:
    The first place you need to look for all your wood sign supplies is here: www.makeawoodsign.com/shop/
    On Amazon, this is a great combination 60/90 degree bit. Purchase it here: amzn.to/2IJ9N9t
    Please visit my biggest inspirations, Eric, Dave and Vicki Rhoten at www.makeawoodsign.com or on TH-cam at / oldave100
    I hope you enjoy the video and I look forward to your comments.

      Thanks Robbie, I've been thinking about doing a sign with LED's. I have a new sign just being started and it has way more detail than I'm used to, will definitely be a challenge!

    Do you ever use a 45/15 profile bit for the initial outlining of the outset letters/numbers?

    • @DIYWithWally
      @DIYWithWally  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Dave, I definitely will use them. It depends on how much room there is around and between the letters. The tighter the spacing, the more I will use those. The 60 degree was good here because there's lots of room between letters. Also, the 60 and 90 degree bits will remove more material in one pass, I tend to use the 45 for more fine detail. Does that help?

    Didn’t see you change out to the 90 degree bit. Was that for the background or the whole cloud?

      Jim Nottingham Hi Jim, the first pass around the numbers was with the 60 degree but then everything else was with the 90 degree. Does that help?

    Where can you purchase the wider clear baseplate with handles shown in video above?

      I buy mine from Eric and Vicki at www.makeawoodsign.com/ They carry them for most routers as well as many more items. I highly recommend them. Also, follow them on IG and TH-cam

    What bit did you use.

      Hi, I used 2 different bits on this one. I used the 60 degree bit for most of it and then switch to the 90 degree for the work close to the numbers. In the description I have a link to the one I used from Amazon. This is a great combination 60/90 degree bit. Hope that helps.

    I see you have a lot of Ryobi tools. I just purchased the Ryobi compressor, do you have that and if so, how do you like it?

    • @DIYWithWally
      @DIYWithWally  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, you're right, I do have lots of them. They work fine for weekend woodworkers like me! Unfortunately I don't have the compressor so I can't help with that but as long as it gets to pressure quickly and maintains it, you should be fine. Be sure to register it with the warranty department so if there are issues, they'll take care of it. Thanks for the question!

      Yeah ive got the Ryobi comp, bought it last year so it would be the same model your talking about. Pretty colours on it, lol, yeah it go's ok, I sourced a used LPG Gas bottle, cant remember the exact size but its a big one that people use for their household use,,100 plus litres id say and stands over a metre high, anyways ive hooked that up as an air tank for the compressor to feed into...works awesome and can run my air tools like my air grinder off it now, the Ryobi couldnt keep up with that at all...takes a good 10 or 15 minutes to fill it up but yeah it adds a new dimension to the situation.. I run the compressor everyday and havnt had any issues with it at all. You cant really expect too much from a direct drive compressor anyway, but for its size it works just fine, oh and here in Australia it cost me $200. Im happy with mine, hope yours is working out great for you too....
