    I had an 09 Matrix S 2.4l I bought new and owned from 2008-2016, had the piston ring issue where it ate a little over a quart of oil every 1k miles. Toyota offered to fix it and put me on the waiting list for a new factory top end rebuild. Ended up driving it for a year got tired of waiting and bought something else. Fortunately for you, you don't have the 2.4 motor in your gen 1. That being said, even with the issue the car kept on trucking. These cars, both the gen 1 and 2 are great Canadian made Toyotas. I enjoyed driving my manual 2.4l. Very practical.

    Dude, I have the same car and love it. One easter egg, which you may have already found in that car, is that you can fold the front passenger seat forward flat. There's a little leaver on both sides of the bottom of the backrest that you can pull to do that. When you do that, it creates an almost flat surface from the back all the way to the front and you can put long stuff on there.

    I bought my 2007 Matrix XR a little over a month ago for $5,000 with 207k miles. Yes I know, the price is really high but I needed a reliable car quick because I have a job and school to go to. I paid 3750 for my 05 xr awd, 6 speaker sound system, very good condition interior. since then, i have installed new suspension, upgraded electrical systems, rockford subwoofer, amps, and rockford components. i LOVE it....
    I know it sounds expensive for an '05, but the engine was perfect, transmission is good, etc. My engine has 127k on it, but it does not drip a single drop of oil, does not burn any oil. i have never needed to add oil to it between changes...
    Edit: also i guess its worth noting that i dont have any rust

      Listen, if the car is in good shape body wise, dropping money on a Toyota is definitely worth it! Engine pretty much never dies, it’s usually the body that gets in bad shape first (well here in Canada that’s the scenario). Sounds like you got yourself a badass build tho! 🔥😄

    I have an 2005 Toyota Matrix as well with just over 200,000 miles. Good reliable commuter vehicle like you said. Just have one quick question regarding rust and paint fading. Just curious if your roof is starting or has already started to rust like mine along with the paint peeling on the hood like mine. Have been researching this and supposedly in Toyota blogs I have been reading through the 2000s model Toyota cars were not equipped with the proper rust/oxidation prevention coat when originally manufactured. This problem has not only occurred in the matrix models also other 2000s Toyota models. While searching this on google I’ve noticed I’m not the only one that this has happened to especially on Toyota Matrix models like ours. Hopefully this issue/defect has not occurred on your car. If so just curious as to how you went about repairing/fixing it. Been researching and trying to find a low cost method to fix my car. Any input/info you can offer is appreciated. Thanks.

    • @FreestyleNath
      @FreestyleNath  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, thank you for your comment mine had couple of rock chips from highway driving so it started rusting there but nothing crazy major (regular wear and tear) as for the roof it was pretty much intact minus at where it meets with the frond windshield they was little rust spots but yet again those were caused because of rock chips from highway driving. I haven’t done anything to fix it more or so because I don’t have the car anymore since I got into a deer accident and the car was totaled😅 But for the roof I have seen people fix the rust job where it meets with the windshield then they would install a rubber protector over it to avoid futur rock chips from starting rust again. Regarding about the paint peeling I never had trouble with that but I have seen other Matrix having that issue but not as popular like the honda civic paint peeling crisis

    I have a 2005 Matrix with 318,000 miles. Always change oil. The car is absolutely awesome.
    Around 220,000 miles change starter, alternator. They go out around this mileage.
    Every 100,000 miles change the wheel bearing.
    Put only the best good brake pads and good tires like Michelin.
    Zero Transmission and engine problems on Matrix.
    Around 300,000 change both control arms.

So I replaced the valve cover gasket then there was a grinding noise from the serpentine belt I narrowed it down to the water pump and fixed that. Check the air filter and cabin air filter if the car was sitting for a while who knows what they look like. They are both easy fixes and about $20 a filter.

    i have the exact same color but 06 with awd, it's an awesome car isnt it? I searched high and low for months for a good deal on a matrix specifically and when the 06 popped up in july this year with decent kms and awd, i was like I NEED TO GET THIS. Called the guy mins after the ad was posted at 11pm, and viewed it at 8am the next morning and bought it for 3050$ cad instead of 3400. Did a bunch of work to it as well, and my first repair was warped brake rotors like you:)
