I remember back then… I was a poor student in my father’s FIAT Punto… I loved the design of this Crossfire. It was a beautiful car back then and it still is.
@DyvonTheKenny, Funny that you asked this question, this was my first ever car. I bought mine with a lot of problems, but even though the car had so many problems it was able to function really well. If I got one with no issues, it would’ve been completely perfect. It does not break easily.
Had a 2004 for 11 years. Loved to drive it when I could. It was the wife's car. Never did a thing to it. As Scotty says you will feel the road. I described as you could feel the spine of a caterpillar if you drove over one. Sold it after the hip replacements.
I had one of these my Junior year and it was a fun car I bought it with an issue fixed it and it was super reliable zero issue drove smooth like a V12.
Hello. Me I ask about your hip? Why hip replacement make you sold crossfire?? I am waiting for new hip, I was hopping replacement will allows to drive easier????? Now old hip but no problem driving.
Scotty, I bought one of these new 2006. That one you have is a base model, I had the up-model. It's an SLK320 with a Crossfire body. I also had a 2006 SLK320. It's all the same engine and trans. Also has MBZ logos. The Crossfire had 2 different wheel sizes front back. Better suspension, better dash but very similar. It was a much better looking car and had custom luggage that was made for it with Crossfire wheels and the top of the luggage looked like the hood of the car. Best luggage ever! I still use it and still have a brand new set. Chrysler offered a few options I had all. Lighted door sills, cargo cover, Borla exhaust (very cool) and turn signal outside mirrors. I still have some new parts and the window sticker. Sadly in 2008 my neighbor smashed into it backing out of his driveway got the door, fender and hood and headlight. It was totaled. Best thing that ever came out of the Daimler/Chrysler deal. Thanks for the video!
@@mikeyploeger3387 Chrysler offered the Borla exhaust and said it made 20 more HP. It sounded great. Dealer installed. If you see one you can tell the exhaust tips are round and replace the rectangle ones that come with it. I also had the fins added on each side of them. I had those painted the OEM silver color of the rims. My CF was the dark slate color, Blk interior. Check EB AMZ etc maybe you can find the Borla exhaust.
I have 2006 Crossfire convertible. I put 19s & 20s on it & lifted in the back. I haven't drive in 8 months bc no one in Duval knows how to work on it. Love seeing these car's.
I believe they made a merger deal in 1995 and it ended in 2007 when Mercedes sold their share to a middle man and then to fiat in 2012 where things took a turn for the worst.
I bought one 2006 Crossfire Roadster had it Delivered from Virginia 6500 when they drop it off I could not Believe what it look like it was in great condition 125000 miles drives great I have been offer 14000 still I drive it all the time not a speck of rust
Bought one 4 years ago, had some issues with the central locking unit and some gaskets. But only paid 8k and zero rust. Still a blast to drive and turns heads

01:04 jeezes! Some people have no love for (old) cars. If you see your seat cover is dissipating, give it to a saddler / an upholsterer before THIS happens.
Mr. Kilmer I have inherited a 97 Toyota T100 SR5 from a dear friend who passed away from 4 stage cancer. The truck is a one time owner who kept it up. However, it sat for some time 8 months to a year. The truck has 230k plus miles automatic 1/2 ton. The only issue so far is it will shift into overdrive after it sits from start up for 1/2 hour then driven for about 45min. to an hour. When it shifts its smooth no jerking or slipping etc.. Now if I drive it in the summer weather it will shift sooner as long as i drive it at least once a day and have it shift it will start to shift in half the time or a little less. I thought it may need to be driven for awhile everyday to loosen up anything that may have the gears gummed up and driving it will help break it all out and loosen the gears up. So before I did that I went ahead and replaced the gasket, solenoids and fluid. I also did a transmission coolant flush. The fluid looked great when I changed the fluid not dirty just real clear. I didn't expect that. After all that it won't change. Now I use the OBD on it there are no codes pending or existing. the trans. temp is at 182. So i start checking all the plugs and wiring to the sensors and to the ECM. I did not find any issues with the wiring. So I went ahead and replaced the O2 sensors upper and lower. The Mass air flow sensor. The transmission temp sensor. The drive shaft Position sensor. The thermostat. All new custom exhaust. I do all my own work with all new Toyota parts. I do all my welds etc.. I have all new brakes, rotors, calipers, shocks, plugs and coils. I installed a complete new ac system and piping. i installed a new radiator, alternator water pump with all new gaskets. I cleaned the throttle body I flushed the motor out twice once with a kerosene followed with diesel with an oil engine cleaner and 5 quarts of 5w30 ran it for a week drained it all out put new filter and fluids back in. I put a new air filter system in it. All seals are good no leaks of any kind. No engine check lights, it would run like a champ if it only shifted. No codes on the OBDII, but still won't shift into overdrive until it's been running for 45 min everyday and in the summer. When it's colder out it can take longer, which says to me it's a temperature or electrical issue but I haven't found it. I reset the modules and ECM. Maybe I have a bad ECM. I have asked and taken it to a few people locally and they say it needs a new transmission but I'm not sure. I tried googling it I found some people have had similar problems but were able to get them fixed I replaced what was causing there issues. I did come across one person who had the same issue. he went through the exact thing i did replacing everything possible. Then on an unrelated issue he had to deal with something up under the steering wheel. So he said he was moving wires around to get to the problem took care of it. When he went to work the truck after 2 years shifted right away and said it's been shifting since over a year ago. the only difference between his and mine is mine shifted after awhile his didn't at all. If you read this and have any idea, I would so much be indebted to you. No matter what, thank you for the years of knowledge and entertainment you have shared with us God bless you and your family Jeff Cooper
On my echo which was made in Japan, the coolant must reach exactly 137°F before lockup is allowed. Many others report the same in other Toyotas. I believe it's to minimize lugging a cold engine. Did you use OEM Toyota or denso sensors? Is there a coolant temp gauge?
It sounds like a bad thermostat. Some people try to run a 180 stat and it won't get warm enough. You need a 195. Years ago I helped someone get a Corolla with 250k on it for cheap. It had 3 trans issues. A leak on the cooler line. A delayed overdrive engagement. And an intermittent speedometer error and not shifting out of second when the speedometer acted up. I fixed the leak, Soldered up the connections on the back of the speedometer and still had the overdrive issue along with a low coolant temp guage reading. I replaced the thermostat and a bad hose while it was apart. In the first 4 minutes of operation it always went into overdrive.
I was told by a reliable source that the Crossfire SRT I used to service was once clocked on the PA Turnpike doing 153 mph but was written up as 99 mph so the first responder driving it wouldn't immediately lose their license.

The least rusty and even the least aged cars I've ever seen are those that lived their whole lives on the northern Pacific coast. It rains there so much, even cars parked outside get a lot of pure, fresh-water washing. Plus, the lack of direct sunlight prevents the aging of paint, headlights, etc. But you do have to watch our for mold and fungus.
Loved my ‘03 Crossfire Roadster. Put 100K, mostly hiway miles, with the top down in Houston. Two major headaches: 1). No spare tire! They give you what amounted to a can of Inflate-a-flat. 2). The rear wheels were 19”. Tires lasted about 20 thousand miles @ about $800 each! At 100K miles, the car was mechanically superior. Eventually, the “peripheral” stuff started literally falling off the car. Stuff like rear trim…interior trim too.
The new 2024 Mercedes AMG GT Coup Looks a lot like the Chrysler Crossfire, Plus and minus certain things. However, the whole body mold Looks very familiar. Just saying.
These things rule my company had one at a control center down near the mouth of the Mississippi near Venice Louisiana. I always made sure to hose it off to keep it from rotting, salty area but I never noticed it falling apart
Hey Scotty my mother's 2021 Mercedes GLB 250 has a horn that randomly goes off while driving. Took it to the dealership and they said nothing was wrong. Usually happens on bumpy roads or sharp turns. Thank goodness she leased it
@scoty kilmore, you should do more maintenance videos on the crossfire, I have a crossfire and would really appreciate it if there is videos on this car, for maintenance, suspension, and overall care.
I have a 2004 silver crossfire. Bought it for 8k. 😅 its bucking and misfiring.😢 trying to folliw Scotty's advice. I wont sell her i love her. LoL 😂❤ i love this car! Thanks for your help Scotty!! ❤
I also have a 2004 crossfire that I just purchased. I got to tell you I think I would really seriously have purchased one of these cars new. I really am happy with this car unlike any other car that I own, and I own a lot of cars.
I had an 05 Crossfire SRT6. It was fun but the tires will hurt your bank account. Starter went out and supercharger quit working. All the wheels got bent because of their low profile. Sold it for $8,000 and it had around 65k miles…that was back in 2018 I believe.
That’s unfortunate because I can’t 100% guarantee because I wasn’t there but I can ALMOST guarantee it wasn’t the starter. And the supercharger issue was likely the IC pump
@@shamilton6328 Starter failures are quite rare on the Crossfires. Usually crank position sensor or RCM failures are the main culprits for starting issues.
I have a 1999 Slk230 with 110,000 miles on it. The top and all work great! It’s easy to work on and some of the crossfire parts fit (cheaper). I’ve got a few videos and shorts on my channel of it and of me swapping the water pump out. I changed the motor mounts out but didn’t film it. Should’ve.
Crossfire's have been pretty reliable in my life I have a super low mileage srt6 and a crossfires daily driver that I put 250k miles on. And I'm going to be completely honest I didn't maintain that car worth a crap 😂
Scotty mentioned again that regular engine will last more than turbo charged engines. Imagine when its paired with manual transmission. It will last for so long.
A rear wheel bearing on my 2018 Nissan Versa started making noise at around 40,000 miles. I changed it myself for $40. The original bearing was marked "made in India" so I replaced it with one made in China!
@@rebeltvr6046 that's not true, and technically it wasn't Mercedes it was Diamler. People like to have Opinions because Europeans have a certain reputation in regards to how they feel about American Automakers, but the Technicalty of it was a 100% merger. That's why when they split they both went their own way on their own. There's a couple good factual TH-cam videos on this you should check out.
@@jeffreyzabawski4862 smh. When I say Mercedes, obviously I mean Daimler-Benz. Back then, there was thought that Americans would backlash if they bought Chrysler, so they pretended it was a 'merger' to appease the Americans, but in reality, it was 100% a Daimler takeover of Chrysler.
I'd use it as a Beater.. only because it is a Standard Trans... Lol I always liked the look of them back in the day... Nice to know it has some decent guts to it...
I had the SRT version, I got more looks in that than my 2 door Lexus coupe. Literally drivers would honk on the highway and give me the thumbs up. You want more miles per gallon and sure reliability? By a civic....
One thing I like about older American cars , is they typically have inboard rectangular box sections you can safely put a 2×4 on floor jack to raise the side of a car unlike most plastic clad Euro turd flat bottom beer cans you'll bust plastic and loose a couple inches of head room if you don’t jack under pinch weld area of rockers which tend to rot in Midwest😂
I’m 6’2 and am comfortable with it. If you adjust the seat position you’ll be fine. I have the version with electrically adjusted seats. No problem. Easily done.
My brother had a Crossfire. He loved it and it was a fun car. Then he stopped in a puddle that was a little too deep and it’s waiting away in the drivway
A friend had one that had electrical problems. Took it to the Chrysler dealer and they wouldn't work on it saying it was really a Mercedes. Took it to the Mercedes dealer and they wouldn't work on it saying it was a Chrysler,
We have this issue in the UK. Some Mercedes dealers don't even recognise that the car is basically an SLK320 with a different body style. Most regular mechanics don't mind working on them, and many of the problems are solveable as long as you can source replacement parts at a reasonable price.
Look up "Toyota electric water pump." This is a trouble part. There's a beeper that needs a switch or volume control. We're talking about 2018+ Camrys. 2019+ ravs. On many new Toyotas including the Corolla, the heater bypass valve sticks
SCOTTY ... PRIUS major parts are CHEAP because there are thousands of them that have good parts in the junkyard. Most Prius repair shops have tons of good engines, trannys, generators, inverters, batteries VERY CHEAP
Hello Scotty. Would love to know your thoughts on the Toyota Supra. I know it’s like the crossfire where Toyota and bmw did a collabo. Which the Supra is basically a bmw. Thinking in buying one so would like to know your thoughts. Thank you
How can I email you Mr. Scotty Kilmer? I have a Mercedes 2017 C300 past few weeks when I’m driving it say “Service required do not shift gears visit dealer” stops with me couple time what the problem of the car please. Anybody ?
Had a customer with one and the plastic on the intercooler cracked. Chrysler wanted $450(shop discount) for it and was over a week to arrive. Pulled it out got the Mercedes part number. Called the MB dealer in stock for $282.
@@don2deliver it’s crazy how some cry parts are cheaper then merc and vise versa always check both since most parts are interchangeable My neighbor never knew this til I told him now he brags bout how he can get parts from both companies 😂
Yes. General maintenance. Fresh fluids are always better than old fluids with high miles. Use the OEM fluid if it shifts fine. It will be expensive, but worth the peace of mind since you'll be going another 125k miles.
Seemed to recall a goofy set up with different sized front and rear wheels you couldn't rotate, and thought it didn’t even have provision for front camber caster💩Fartsburgnuegen IMO💩
Again, I don't know what this guy has against cars made in Mexico, the Mexicans are great hard working people, I have no issues buying a car made in Mexico.

Yep, all the Crossfires have a top speed of 155 mph (limited).
That seat wear is classic to my Mercedes of the same era. Nice to see the German touches carry through beyond just the engine compartment
I have a crossfire for 11 years but my problem is my Ford fusion titanium 2014 .crossfire is 2007 love it😊😊❤
The new 2024 Mercedes AMG GT Coup Looks a lot like the Chrysler Crossfire, Plus and minus certain things. However, the whole body mold Looks very familiar. Just saying.
Ive always liked the crossfire but never knew how they were .... Thank You Scotty
Thank goodness she leased it
lmfao
Scotty conducts symphony orchestras in his off days!
He could do it, for sure!
Not 'JUST' was in 2004.. Stellantis still owns Chrysler and we all know you know that lol.
It’s not a ownership
Stellantis is a partnership of all companies and Chrysler is actually the biggest contributor to the group
Might as well be Mercedez Benz every other owner of Chrysler didn’t produce reliable cars haha
@scoty kilmore, you should do more maintenance videos on the crossfire, I have a crossfire and would really appreciate it if there is videos on this car, for maintenance, suspension, and overall care.
Please let me know if you find maint vids on xfire, TXS
I just started looking into these a couple weeks ago
They do have control module issues, as long as they don't effect drivability or convertible top operations you should be good.
I’ve had mine for years and I love it
Love mine. Most problems are easy to fix on it.
I really liked the way these looked when they came out.
There are no struts on those cars.
I had a 2002 Dodge Intrepid. It was a great car. I got 276k out of it.
@@SteTrax lol did you read what I said? I said I almost guarantee it wasn’t the starter.
Should’ve.
That's really low mileage. 👍
Crossfire's have been pretty reliable in my life I have a super low mileage srt6 and a crossfires daily driver that I put 250k miles on. And I'm going to be completely honest I didn't maintain that car worth a crap 😂
Chrysler did a similar thing with the Sebring and the Dodge avenger. Same car just different badges.
I used to own this car and I loved it! I still miss it 💔
Scotty mentioned again that regular engine will last more than turbo charged engines. Imagine when its paired with manual transmission. It will last for so long.
Your videos are always good keep making them Scotty
These cars don't have struts - shocks on all 4 corners. The Clunk might be a broken spring on the front end, they are known for it
A rear wheel bearing on my 2018 Nissan Versa started making noise at around 40,000 miles. I changed it myself for $40. The original bearing was marked "made in India" so I replaced it with one made in China!
You must love Asia and countries with over a billion people?
India makes better and higher quality products than China ever can.
@@shoa3199they make crap
Chinese parts are crap....
Anything made by man is crap.
Mercedes didn't Buy Chrylser, they Merged and then split.
Yeah but in reality Mercedes bought Chrysler, they just couldn't say that so they called it a 'merger'
I love these cars these are beautiful and will age pretty well still a eye catcher and fast.
I'd use it as a Beater.. only because it is a Standard Trans... Lol I always liked the look of them back in the day... Nice to know it has some decent guts to it...
SCOTTY ... SEEING a couple in the MIA area for $5,000, one is a stick CLIST
NOT a bad deal for that kind of $$
Sorry to tell you but the gas mileage is 15 around town and 22 Highway Not that 30 that you claim... i would take the 10k and buy something better
I had the SRT version, I got more looks in that than my 2 door Lexus coupe. Literally drivers would honk on the highway and give me the thumbs up. You want more miles per gallon and sure reliability? By a civic....
When Mercedes owned Chrysler, they gave Chrysler their old platforms to build cars
But Mercedes never owned Chrysler. It Technically was a Merger. Anything else is just opinions.
Good afternoon sir! Thanks for the videos! I remember these.
I was thinking about getting the Crossfire SRT6, but I was too tall for the car car.
I'm 6' 2" and you need to be under 5' 11".
Go sit in one. It’s 100% if you’re leg vs torso. I’m like 5-8 barely fit because I’m more torso
I love Mercedes cruise control stalks. Very intuitive. Up = Set/Accel, Down= Set/Decel, Pull toward you=resume, push away from you=off.
Agreed. Once you've used them for a while most other vehicle switch combinations for C/C seem overly fiddly.
I love mine. Great post Scotty !!!
A friend had one that had electrical problems. Took it to the Chrysler dealer and they wouldn't work on it saying it was really a Mercedes. Took it to the Mercedes dealer and they wouldn't work on it saying it was a Chrysler,
😂😂
We have this issue in the UK. Some Mercedes dealers don't even recognise that the car is basically an SLK320 with a different body style. Most regular mechanics don't mind working on them, and many of the problems are solveable as long as you can source replacement parts at a reasonable price.
I always thought of these vehicles as an updated AMC Marlin with modern styling, suspension and drivetrain.
I owned one, thing was absolutely a beast. Downside, ignition issues.
How about Chrysler Sebring?
I wish every car company had at least one reliable car like a Toyota Camry.
Look up "Toyota electric water pump." This is a trouble part. There's a beeper that needs a switch or volume control. We're talking about 2018+ Camrys. 2019+ ravs. On many new Toyotas including the Corolla, the heater bypass valve sticks
Hasn't Mercedes bought Chrysler 2 or 3 times now?
I think I've seen maybe two or three of these over the years. They just didn't sell that well. Either people loved the looks of them or they hated it.
That was nearly 20 years ago, Scott.
Top Gear tore this car apart relentlessly, and basically listed as 1 of the worst cars they experienced.
SCOTTY ... PRIUS major parts are CHEAP because there are thousands of them that have good parts in the junkyard. Most Prius repair shops have tons of good engines, trannys, generators, inverters, batteries VERY CHEAP
2001 s600 v12 , needs help. Ever heard of first 4 starts the car response is very slow. 5th start acts like a race car. What causes that? Thank you
Hello Scotty. Would love to know your thoughts on the Toyota Supra. I know it’s like the crossfire where Toyota and bmw did a collabo. Which the Supra is basically a bmw. Thinking in buying one so would like to know your thoughts.
Thank you
I love my old SLK
Scotty, you know we love you here in Pennsylvania. I share all these videos with my thousands of followers. We love you brother.
How can I email you Mr. Scotty Kilmer? I have a Mercedes 2017 C300 past few weeks when I’m driving it say “Service required do not shift gears visit dealer” stops with me couple time what the problem of the car please. Anybody ?
Dealership didn't know AMG built the SRT6.. i got it for $11,000, put in $3500 for FBOs & it ran 11's all day on street tires!👍👍
Best time of 11.2secs on 19" & 20" rear street tires
I bought a Crossfire SRT convertible new and it fell apart after a few years....what a piece of junk. Chrysler dealers will not work on them.
It’s stated around 2000 …. Pretty sure … 👍 but I can see they are trying to kill dodge . The brand
The Chrysler 300 was by far the best car Chrysler made in the last 20 years, but I say the Crossfire is easily second place.
Agreed
Try Ritalin. Over the top
Clunking when on the gas stops when I let go between 2-3 gear I was doing burn outs any help ?
You aren't supposed to do burnouts in a car. Treat it with respect and it will be a great car for you.
My 2007 Ford Focus has 282k miles with a manual transmission and it gets 30 mpg city/highway combined and 35 mpg highway
I have the SRT 6 suoer charged version. Awesome car. I have had minimum problems. Its a sleeper with 340 HP and a rare car. Always turns heads.
only issues i had with my srt was a cps , an alternator and countless cracked rims... nj
Had a customer with one and the plastic on the intercooler cracked. Chrysler wanted $450(shop discount) for it and was over a week to arrive. Pulled it out got the Mercedes part number. Called the MB dealer in stock for $282.
@@don2deliver it’s crazy how some cry parts are cheaper then merc and vise versa always check both since most parts are interchangeable
My neighbor never knew this til I told him now he brags bout how he can get parts from both companies 😂
Don't give your money to any manufacturer that don't "prioritize" reliability in their products.
That's probaby about 98 percent of car manufacturers then. 😁
I like to drink the shots of whiskey and roll up the Numbers and get all schmoked up while watching the Scotty Kilmers videos
I love my Crossfire 👍😎 Super fun and Economical
I thought these had a AMC reference
ok that actually looks beautiful
I have a 2004 . Bought it new and still runs as good as the day o Bought it
Jeremy Clark referred the back of this car as a dog taking a pooh.
I see crossfire's round here for under 5k all the time. Even 2k-3k
Please share the link here if possible. Thanks
"Realuhdee" is not a word.
Does a manual transmission with 125k miles need a fluid change if it still shifts fine?
Yes. General maintenance. Fresh fluids are always better than old fluids with high miles. Use the OEM fluid if it shifts fine. It will be expensive, but worth the peace of mind since you'll be going another 125k miles.
Read forums but also know the difference between gl-4 and gl-5 fluid.
That was a nice vehicle
I'm Sitting in the Only Chrysler You Should Buy: It's called a 94 Celica.....LOL Chrysler's Car they wished they would have produced in the 1990's
Chrysler Chrysalis
Seemed to recall a goofy set up with different sized front and rear wheels you couldn't rotate, and thought it didn’t even have provision for front camber caster💩Fartsburgnuegen IMO💩
Awesome content.
Again, I don't know what this guy has against cars made in Mexico, the Mexicans are great hard working people, I have no issues buying a car made in Mexico.
Did anyone know ..Scotty is a conductor in a orchestra.... But he can't ever find his wand😂
