alex calling canada "generic america" and mae staring him down is amazing, shame it's cut out
Damn straight. He never dared say that when Katherine was on the show.
Tbf, thats kind of a compliment.🤣
Usa would be a great place if you just toned everything down a LOT. Lol
The annoying part is that accent is nothing like a Canadian accent
@@karhn171 honestly i found most of em to be pretty bad 🤣 basically the british ones they did good on. The swedish one I was pretty baffled on lol. Shock greg guessed the cities. No clue how he managed that hahs
I love your pfp!!!
Tbf to Greg, 3 of the 4 wrong guesses weren't too far off either.
New Zealand and South Africa are closer than Canadian and American lol
As a Canadian that’s travelled abroad and met people from all over the world, nobody has a fucking clue what we sound like. When I was in Panama with my dad, we met a lovely older English couple at the resort bar. Drinks a plenty, chatting away, and out of the blue they asked us “are you guys from Scotland?”…
On our way back to BC/Alberta we had a 48 hour layover in Vegas and the first night we figured we’d go see a show and a hypnotist was performing so we went to the ticket booth to get some tickets. Talking to the ticket booth lady and she asked us “are you guys from Ireland?”…
So the English think we’re Scottish, and the Americans think we’re Irish, but I have Scottish and Irish friends and they would never guess us for one of their own.
I’ll say it again, nobody has any fucking clue what we Canucks actually sound like.
And people say we sound like Americans..😂
Funny, I can travel a couple hours across the border from Alberta to Montana and there’s a distinct and noticeable difference. We do not sound the same. Plus, if we did, the Yanks wouldn’t mistake us for Irish. The proof is in the -pudding- maple syrup eh.
@@JesusFriedChrist. Funny, what part of Canada are you from? Because for me from here in BC, we get mistaken for American all the time and when we go down south we blend right in.
I’m from NZ and constantly got asked if I’m from South Africa when I was in England/Ireland/Europe. Not now I live in australia though lol.
it really depends on what Canadian and American accent you're going for
I thought my Canadian friend was American at first but tbf to me, so did my American mates
Being South African living in New Zealand, I knew immediately that it was an attempt at a NZ accent that’d be mistaken for South African. Happens alllll the time.
Urzila Carlson has entered the chat.
As a south african thats also living in nz i knew aswell
It wasn't even close to a NZ accent
@@andrewg3768keyword "attempt"
Hi kiwi here I was confused and started saying taskmaster and while the twang was off and he dident go up at the end of the word he did get the short vowle at the start lol😂
I love how the Irish one was immediately easiest to guess 😂
It's Frankie Boyle, he's Irish!
@@jamiebruner8463he's Scottish
@@jamiebruner8463 dude that’s such an L
@@charles5553 Both his parents are Irish though and have thick accents. He's done material on it
Frankie Boyle has one of the strongest yet easily understandable Scottish accents ever and Irish (at times) is not too far off. He definitely had to hold back on his own accent a bit to get that Irish accent down
This task only works when everyone sucks at accents, and it's great! To everyone saying "that was not a ____ accent", that's the point, the contestants suck at accents.
Yeah, also one word.
Not as much as Alex sucks at accents however, wish he'd had a go! Him trying to be a cowboy on the podcast is hands down my favourite TM podcast moment 😂
It's also really hard to get the voice in just 1 word from a standing start, even if you're generally pretty good at accents.
As a Canadian, I can confirm we always talk in a Mickey Mouse voice.
That's what Ivo was likely going for, doing Mae's Mickey Mouse voice in the spoon salvaging task
That 'swedish' accent was brutal T-T
I assumed she was going for the typical Dutch accents I hear on UK TV and on SNL!
Yeah, that's not the Swedish way of saying it. I am Swedish and assumed she was doing Dutch.
@@StillRooneyStarcraft yeah, I'm norwegian and i would never have guessed she tried doing swedish
Yeah. Im swedish and yeah... wtf was that? I feel a bit offended by the fact he guessed Norwegian, which is as close as you get.
I’m Swedish and I’m also offended
I’m American and when I heard that Disney-like accent I immediately thought, “He sounds so polite, I bet it’s Canada.”
hahahaha franky really channeld that "fiddeldidi potato" energy XD
He's from Glasgow, which has Irish roots. He didn't have to search far for this accent.
@@rachelfox8108you could search the globe and never find someone who speaks like that naturally lol
And both his parents are Irish, so plenty of experience in the Irish accent dept. 😆
He probably thought "what would make Dara O'Brien glare at me" and ran with that.
@@rachelfox8108I don’t know if I’d say Glasgow has Irish roots. It’s probably more accurate to say Ireland and certain Parts of Scotland are both Gaelic.
Irish roots implies a much more recent connection.
Jeez that New Zealand was soul crushing
To be fair south African and new Zealand sound really close. It takes more than a single word to tell
@@JacobSantosDev
task

@@Tao_Tology oh, so the Brits have that as two words. Also, I meant like a sentence is needed as I can tell with a few sentences.
@@JacobSantosDev You get what you are given on the card. Do not question the task.
@@Tao_Tology look, I am American, we don't follow orders, or instructions and look how few of us die every year.
As a Canadian... what?
Literally 💀
A Canadian mouse maybe?😂
As a Wisconsin/Minnesota native who often is told i sound Canadian...i thought he was going for America...or some kids fairytale world
I think he was specifically trying to do an impression of Mae, because they're Canadian.
Either that or his idea was an American accent but more North = higher up = higher pitched.
Yeah ... I know how a Canadian accent sounds.... that was literally a Disney Accent XD
As a Swede, what the F was that?? haha
Yeah that sounded like generic nerd speak, how in hell was that supposed to be anything Scandinavian
That was Dutch@@KIWI_DUDE.
As a swedish person I’m not sure if I should be offended or take that horrible interpretation as a threat 🤣
They're all super to be bad, it's comedy, hard tasks
Same 🤣
@@schubi42 I don't know if you're Swedish or not, but it really wasn't 😅
At least not to my ears 😆
Wtf was the swedish one 😂
No intrs true, I've seen enough Sandy Toksfig and impressions of her from the QI team that that is basically the generic scandinavian accent. It's just a shame he couldnt say "scandinvian" because that would have covered any of about 5 countries that accent could be from
@@vice.nor.virtueScandinavia consists of 3 countries my guy, but yeah I get how one could have the impression of this being one of the scandinavian accents since we tend to have lots of "sch"-sounds overall
@@vice.nor.virtueUhm, dude, the person who wrote this comment is actually Swedish 😅
That really isn't "basically the generic Scandinavian accent", but I can get how people who don't speak any of those languages can hear some minor similarities. But the thing is, that our accents has been so poorly portrayed in international entertainment for so long that people outside of the Nordic think that thats actually how we sound, when it really isn't.
The accent media uses for especially us Swedes, is pretty much a Dutch or Schweiz accent, NOT Nordic.
We have some things in common with the Dutch because our languages stems from the same tree, but for the most part it's just not the same at all.
It is a hard language to learn though, so I kinda get it, and it can be funny too. But it's gotten to a point where it actually starts to feel kinda disrespectful.
Sorry for the rant, but I'm tired and your comment triggered me a bit 😅
Also sidenote just because I know these things aren't really taught that great in school. Heck, Im from Sweden and I had to google some of this myself 😅
But Scandinavia is only three countries: Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
The Nordic is five countries: Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland and Finland.
It also includes the three independent islands Åland, the Faroe islands and Greenland.
And Frankie went for your stereotypical Irish accent!
As a Canadian, I would never have been able to guess that lmao.
As a Swede: No, it wasn’t close by a mile!🤣
As a swede, you don't get a say because your biased by region. Your going to looking at more details, outsiders are looking at more generic things, as they deal with it less so serious the nuance
@@kurtsudheim825But its not even close by that metric. The Swedish Chef has a perfect accent in comparison.
Norway is close to Sweden though.
I don’t know how Mae identifies but however they do, they’re the cutest person that’s ever been on this show
aww this is really wholesome :)
So hott, truly
Can we take a moment to appreciate that it was ‘Republic of Ireland’?☘️
"Is disney a country?"
At this rate they're gonna be
I’m from New Zealand and he should have just done the Korg voice, that’s literally exactly what some of us sounds like
He said America and although not a country it’s technically not absolutely wrong 😂
No, he was wrong. America refers to the United States of America. Canadians don't call themselves Americans.
Mae’s Welsh accent was a minority-competent Scottish but a totally embarrassing Welsh
Mae's Canadian, so it's gonna be a bit dodgy
Few people outside the UK know the Welsh accent.
He didn't have to do Canade that dirty 😂
As someone from New Zealand, wed say "Tahsk" not "Tehsk" but i can understand the logic behind that thought

But until you dig you'll have a lovely time
So don't dig...
As a kiwi, im lost for words
But if you had the words you'd speak them in a rough South African accent?
hearing kiell a second time as a kiwi makes me realise it's not the worst attempt
I gotta say tho he got them all close. Like he confused them with a country right next door or one you could easily confuse them with
I got NZ Kiell. Greg's just crap at this game.😂
I am Canadian and have lived away from Canada for nearly a decade now. I honestly thought Mae was from somewhere in the UK or more likely Ireland, but just had a very mild accent.
That NZ one crushed me
As a safa, still git it. It's not supposed to be perfect, it's task master, they give the scenes to people they know will struggle with that one. Or Frank he got Irish, as a Scotsmen with Irish heritage
If you want to know what state someone is from ask them to say water.
"Wash my car" works too

For anyone curious about Ivo's awful Canadian accent, there was a previous task where the contestants had to direct their teammates in a high-pitched voice, and Mae sounded a lot like Mickey Mouse, so Ivo was likely doing an impression of that
Haha. I said “Disney” out loud too!
what happens if you don't know the accent of the country 👁👁

South Africa was wild😂
To be fair, he was REALLY close on every one!
How is sa & nz close?
I love how much Frankie Boyle sounded like Gonzo from the Muppets saying that
Taskmaster just guesses “America” so he’s technically correct.
No.
America is a country.
Canada is a country.
Technically, you're trying to say North America is a country. It isn't.
@@pixelrancher I’m not saying North America is a country, but that a Canadian accent is an American accent because Canada is part of the Americas. Likewise a Brazilian accent is also an American accent.
@@closeben Davies was asked to "guess the country from a one word accent", not which continent. The Americas are not countries. They're continents.
His answer was America - the country of.
Just like the continent of Europe wouldn't have been the correct answer for all of the countries in Europe.
If the correct answer has to be a country, a continent is not correct.
@@pixelrancher… watch it again, they say “guess the accent” not guess the country. I agree it’s not a fair answer because saying American is not specific enough, but at least he wasn’t wrong, it was an American accent.

@@RenegadeShepTheSpaceryou should consider learning English. The word "they" is used is there is a singular undefined pronoun precebdently defined in the phrase, when referring to a singular unspecified person or someone with an unrevealed gender, for example if you're talking in the news about a school shooting by an unknown person, you'd use "they" when referring to them since you don't know whether you'd call them he or she

as an Australian I have confused the south African accent for an Australian accent so many times
Frankie didn’t sound Irish, he sounded like himself.
I think that was the set up maybe, make ot so easy/obvious, that green would think he just couldn't do a German or Japanese accent, so would have to guess. Or they stitched him up

The Netherlands (if they didn't learn proper English)
Even though the accent wasn't perfect, I kinda appreciate they added "the Republic of" for Ireland 😂
Why? "Republic of" isn't in the name of the country
@@themanonthebicycle because after spending time in England and other parts of the UK, not many people there even know that Ireland is a Republic. They mostly know it as North or South. Which just seems a bit ignorant to what is the majority of the country
@@themanonthebicycleBecause the accents are different
The name of the country is Ireland. So it's weird not to use it's correct name. I suspect people in England get this wrong a lot because the irish national football team IS called The Republic of Ireland for quirky historical reasons and most English people get their knowledge of the rest of the world either from colonising or football. Their two favourite pasttimes!
@@patrickshortall5518See, I think it's less about the football team and more about distinguishing between the Republic and Northern Island, the latter obviously being a territory within the UK.
I don't think most people think about this, but by referring to the Republic as "Republic of Ireland" they're implicitly separating it from Ulster; a conceptual border that's a manifestation of their continued colonial presence on the island.
No, but I immediately understood that it was an attempt at a New Zealand accent!
i was going to say Star Fox for the last one because it reminded me of their old final smash.
