if i didn't know any better I would think there was one or two really good singers on each part. that's how perfectly in tune each voice is. incredible.
We sang this when I was in high school at a competition and when the director cut us off at the end, the last notes echoed and the entire auditorium was dead silent and I get chills just remembering it! This was one of my favorite pieces we ever sang...
This song is BEAUTIFUL and means the world to me. My choir teacher had us sing it and during one of our first rehearsals, I had found out about my uncle's death with melanoma. I sang this song with tears in my eyes everyday from that point on. It is such a wonderful, mesmerizing song.
My choir sang this song for an alumni who's father past away of cancer, (at the fathers wake,) this past august. Every time I hear this song it brings me to tears. I adore this song so much in so many ways.
I don't think I will ever be able to EXACTLY tell or show anyone what's in my heart or how I see the world. I am different. I have always been different. I will always be different. That's just how it is. But this song right here comes pretty near to perfectly describing what's in my heart and how I see the world. I also think that in order to truly understand this song and sing it and mean it, one needs to have actually lived a little and known God, and to have tasted both of good and bad in this life.
Had the pleasure of singing this on international tour to Poland with my college choir in the summer of 2015. Can't hear it without tearing up at the pure beauty of this piece.
Gawthrop lyrics, “Sing me to Heaven” In my heart's sequestered chambers lie Truths stripped of poet's gloss. Words alone are vain and vacant, And my heart is mute. In response to aching silence memory Summons half-heard voices, And my soul finds primal eloquence and Wraps me in song. Wraps me in song If you would comfort me, Sing me a lullaby. If you would win my heart, Sing me a love song. If you would mourn me and bring me to God, Sing me a requiem, Sing me to heaven. Touch in me all love and passion, Pain and pleasure, Touch in me grief and comfort; Love and passion, Pain and pleasure. Sing me a lullaby, a love song, a requiem, Love me, comfort me, bring me to God: Sing me a love song, Sing me to heaven
Our church choir sang this just last month at the funeral of one of our members, and we are singing it again for our Requiem Concert next month. Beautiful!
My choir director had a student who died of a heart condition. Before she died, she said if she could have anything, she'd want her choir to sing this to her.
Sang this in high school. Out of all the versions I've heard, my school's version is still my favorite. Probably because I was a part of it. I still listen to it 12 years later.
this is the best one I've personally been able to find, the voices sound like they're mostly together and the harmonies in the song are beautiful and really add to the feeling of the song leaving you speechless.
I remember singing this in my highschool choir a few years back, when I was maybe around 16 One of my favorites we did, very beautiful song I remember just vibing to it lol
September 8th! The installation of our minister. Just found out today that our first rehearsal for the new season is the 5th. (took summer vacation) I'm glad we've done this before. Such a beautiful song. Hope we can do it justice.
We're singing this song in my school. They did it a few years back and actually accomplished an overtone at the end, so I'm excited for it. It's just gorgeous.
I got this piece yesterday, and I'm singing it with what is usually my high school's 12 person Jazz choir at a funeral for a recent graduate of my high school tomorrow. This recording helps so much. Thank you. I didn't even know him, but this is going to be so hard to sing such a powerful piece for that occasion.
I just got to perform this a couple weeks ago with the Far East honor choir in Seoul. It was great! I’m recording a version of it tonight for my TH-cam just bc it’s so pretty
I love this song -33 Get to sing it in a big concert with a few other people . We're in a group that is REALLY hard to get into . You have to have an amazing voice . Wish us luck!!!
This is one of those songs that I tend to rape the replay button. Amazing performance of this! The women sounded beautiful together, same as the men. Wow, just wow.
True, but that foundation is critical in songs like this. It gives the song a much fuller, richer quality. If you want a more balanced spotlight, try "Ballade to the Moon" by Sherri Porterfield.
When my conductor compared Daniel Gawthrop to Eric Whitacre, I thought he might be exaggerating. Whitacre is a genius with the notes. But as soon as I heard this, I understood. Whitacre may be the Mozart of choir music, but Gawthrop is subsequently Beethoven. (who was better in my opinion) With this in mind, thanks for posting.
Love this piece, and the singers sound wonderful, but it's just a bit too fast throughout for my taste, especially the beginning and around the 1:20 mark.
Not to be rude to the person who posted this, but this song was not arranged by Jonathan Quick. This is Daniel Gawthrop's song and this is most definitely his arrangement.
Our choir sang this at our director's funeral. So perfect for the occasion.
Awe that is wonderful
if i didn't know any better I would think there was one or two really good singers on each part. that's how perfectly in tune each voice is. incredible.
I was in a choir that sang this song... This was, by far, one of my favorite songs
Me too 😊
BRINGS BACK SO MANY CHOIR MEMORIES, AND NOW HIT THE SPOT WITH MY LATE HUSBAND'S PASSING.
That chord at the end of the phrase the second time they sing "..wraps me in song..." Wow!!!! It just wraps me up like a blanket!!!
My choir sang this for a funeral after four of our members died in a car crash, now this song just makes me sad, but it's so beautiful.
This piece of music is so powerful and beautiful all at the same time. It brings tears to my eyes
We sang this when I was in high school at a competition and when the director cut us off at the end, the last notes echoed and the entire auditorium was dead silent and I get chills just remembering it! This was one of my favorite pieces we ever sang...

Singing this in our high school's concert choir. Absolutely chilling music.
I had lunch with Daniel Gawthrop last week. What a nice guy! So down to Earth, very intelligent, and incredibly kind. Wonderful piece maestro!
Had the pleasure of singing this on international tour to Poland with my college choir in the summer of 2015. Can't hear it without tearing up at the pure beauty of this piece.

Our church choir sang this just last month at the funeral of one of our members, and we are singing it again for our Requiem Concert next month. Beautiful!
DAANGGGG!! The intonation is ridiculous! In a good way!!! Who ever conducts this choir is amazing! And of course the singers are brilliant too :)
My choir director had a student who died of a heart condition. Before she died, she said if she could have anything, she'd want her choir to sing this to her.
This is my most favorite recording of this song! Excellent tone! And I love all the interpretations of this song!!!!! Bravo!!!!!

We're singing this song in my school.

I sang erev shel shoshanim for honor choir, it was my favorite piece. This song though.. Oh man... It's so pretty.

I was in this choir years ago. Now I am pursuing conducting for choir, because of my old choir director (This one who put this song together)

Get to sing it in a big concert with a few other people . We're in a group that is REALLY hard to get into . You have to have an amazing voice .
Wish us luck!!!
Whoever disliked this song has stupidest person on the face of the Earth. This was pure perfection.
wow! community college? best I've heard yet of this piece.
This is one of those songs that I tend to rape the replay button. Amazing performance of this! The women sounded beautiful together, same as the men. Wow, just wow.
How can you dislike this? It's perfect!
Probably robots
I am in this recording as an Alto...good times
@blackrain49 Or any of Eric Whitacre's work. That man is in love with cluster chords and dissonance. But it's so beautiful how could you not be!?
thumbs up if you have a concert tomorrow and still don't have this memorized.
ahh..everytime i hear this song. so beautiful
Preforming this Thursday with my school choir

The tenor notes are very repetative as well
welcome to being an alto lol
True, but that foundation is critical in songs like this. It gives the song a much fuller, richer quality.
If you want a more balanced spotlight, try "Ballade to the Moon" by Sherri Porterfield.
Have you ever heard "Alto's Lament"?
As an alto I concur. However we do get to sing some glorious chest notes. Have you heard Altos Lament?
Helpful!! Thank's :)

Chandron McMillan *requiem
This church music is so dank
As an Alto... We sang 'Do' the entire time :)
Well done, my friend!
I LOVE THE DISSONANCE OMG
Our high school choir is doing this song I sing 2nd bass it's a fun experience
When my conductor compared Daniel Gawthrop to Eric Whitacre, I thought he might be exaggerating. Whitacre is a genius with the notes. But as soon as I heard this, I understood. Whitacre may be the Mozart of choir music, but Gawthrop is subsequently Beethoven. (who was better in my opinion) With this in mind, thanks for posting.
@diva4life2189 i believe the composer is Daniel Gawthrop
Really wish I had time to learn the bass part to this song so I could sing it at a funeral....
@amyyd00dle Best. Song. Ever. I'm assuming you did the Virtual Choir, right?
You're missing out then. I miss singing this song.
the six people who disliked this don't have ears
Love this piece, and the singers sound wonderful, but it's just a bit too fast throughout for my taste, especially the beginning and around the 1:20 mark.
This is a difficult song . Good job guys.
This is amazing and I am really picky
Not to be rude to the person who posted this, but this song was not arranged by Jonathan Quick. This is Daniel Gawthrop's song and this is most definitely his arrangement.
i agree
@showjumper5280 Try listening to *Sleep* by Eric whitacre, its a song of dissonant chords. It sounds like that and amazing
I'd say it's more the recording quality, mic placement. You can have extremely crisp diction in a hall with a deadzone and it sounds like mud.
ok, singing this song for school varsity singers.....i think that put the bar pretty high...
can't wait to sing this in Carnegie :')
@JennaGwenna Yes, you're right.
seven now...
arr. jonathan quick?
I wish they had held out some of their phrases a bit longer, like on Love Song.
Sounds like the bass section consists of one dude
I know that feeling haha
Sing me a requiem
I'm just going to assume that one person missed the like button
i felt like it was too fast, otherwise very good
@Mixedmafi4 I disagree totally just to be honest with you.
we are singing this song in my chorus, im so tired of hereing this song that the name makes me want to yak
I.Need.New.Pants.
