I fee Apocalypse does a great "oh lawd he's coming", mechanically speaking. The fact you know for sure he's in your opponent's hand just makes it more terrifying.
Hearing someone actually talk about Marvel Snap relatably scratched a particular itch. No one I know plays it so I appreciate this video and would love to see more haha
If you wanted to boost the flavor of it, instead of just winning a location, a little animation plays when Galactus is played that destroys the location it’s on and turns it into “Devoured Planet.” The location would destroy any card on it that isn’t Galactus or his herald.
So stoked to see you covering Snap! I'd like it if Galactus just said "At the start of the next turn, destroy this location." Retain the flavor of him arriving and then eating a planet, and there's still time for counterplay. That way the other Heralds can still be their own cards someday. Give them abilities that synergize with location destruction or help prep for Galactus, and make them all 3-cost so Surfer makes sense as well, and you'd have a great "Galactus + Heralds" core that feels very disticnt from Thanos (which is why I'd try to avoid having Galactus shuffle cards into the deck, makes Thanos feel less special.)
My "flavor" hot take is that Taskmaster, Absorbing Man, and Mystique should swap abilities. Absorbing man can absorb the properties of anything he touches, so he copies ongoing abilities. Taskmaster can mimic the ability of anyone (s)he sees, so (s)he replays the last ability played. Mystique can take on anyone's appearance, so she copies their power.
i really like that shuri change you proposed at the end. keeps the same base idea but totally messes up the red skull/taskmaster combo. changes the pacing of her type of deck big time and makes it not as brain-dead to play.
Yeah. Ironically, snap knows how to do PvP way better than Pokemon Go does. I'm a day one player for Pogo and every time I try GBL I feel like I'm having to go to work for free.
totally agree, there's so much they could do with Galactus to make him more fun to play and play against. i'd also love them to do something about Leech, one of the most annoying cards which often just makes final turn play disappointing or boring. i'd make Leech into an ongoing that removes all abilities at that location (on reveal effects don't activate, ongoing effected are negated). that would be neat bc it would give people an actual response to Cosmo
Would love more content like this, though my one suggestion is just to have at least a screenshot of the most relevant cards you're talking about on screen over your shoulder so others less familiar with the game can better imagine what you're talking about.
I absolutely love every tiny detail about Marvel Snap and how with cards keep the flavor of their comic counterpart well. All of the Guardians of the Galaxy cards are all "guess if your opponent plays here" cards. The Symbiotes are all destroy cards. Blade, Morbius, and Dracula are all Discard cards. And - as you said - with the exception of Wakanda and Hydra unintentionally working well together, my biggest gripe is that all of the Fantastic 4 cards all fit their characters right yet not a single FF member as even a shred of synergy with one another.
You know, I used to swear off mobile games until you mentioned Marvel Snap in a previous video of yours. Been playing the game for a month now, with my favorite deck being a Carnage based one
For Galactus, perhaps you (the person playing against Galactus) can get a "notification" from one of his heralds the moment he's in your opponent's hand (at the beginning if he's there to start, or once drawn)? Maybe a cool animation of Silver Surfer, Firelord, or Nova (Frankie Ray)? There will be those instances in which he's drawn late and played immediately, which would result in a similar scenario to what we see now, but that wouldn't be as often. Plus the Herald "notification" would still allow you to include characters that could be or are cards themselves, like Silver Surfer and Dazzler (yes, she was an actual Herald when Terrax decided to hide in a black hole).
Would love to see more you do more Marvel Snap content since I usually dive deep into the lore behind card games yet I have a hard time getting into comics. Your input is unique and very well worded too.
I don't play snap at all but in a vacuum from what you've described here I'd design Galactus as follows "When played and at the start of each turn put a consumption token on galactus, when glactus has some number of consumption tokens on him all card in the zone other than Galactus are destroyed and that zone is removed from the game, Galactus moves to one of the remaining zones." So you have this looming threat that must be dealt with in a limited amount of time.
please please PLEASE keep making these videos just started playing a couple weeks ago and got obsessed, then saw you’re tweet about getting Thanos and was super hyped you were playing
I think there should definitely be incentives to pair up team members for secondary effects- like all of the fantastic four( fend off Galactus), or the sinister 6(spidermen cost less and jump to the front of your deck), or x men pairings etc (fastball special)
I feel like maybe they’ll add faction tags eventually and they’ll have some sort of bonus effects or team effects or something. It’s crazy to me that there are zero synergies between actual teams for the most part.
The most fun self own I saw in Snap just today was seeing my opponent throw down a Morph, only for it to turn into Charles X and lock down the location with me winning it. I hope to never have Morph backfire on me like that.
Nando, I can really tell how much you genuinely love every second you spend playing Marvel Snap™️. I know that you would never mislead your audience even over something so trivial. I sleep easily every night knowing that you believe in your heart of hearts that Marvel Snap™️ is a good game with NO flaws.
I love some odd interactions of Galactus with some specific cards. Namely Cosmo and Goose. Galactus arrives in a planet "Kneel before Galac-.... D-dog... I don't do dogs... D-don't mind me, I won't eat anyone..." And: "No no no no , no cat, I don't go into a planet that has cats!!!"
Galactus really doesn't need a change, there are so many ways to counter and play around him that if you manage to lose to him you kinda deserve to. Junk decks are great, Polaris and Magneto are great. If you see an empty lane you might as well throw a Cosmo down. You could also consistently disrupt him with Debrii. Plus he's a 6000 token big bad, those cards should have really powerful effects
I love seeing non-marvel snap creators make a video about Marvel Snap. I’ve had a lot of moments where I’m thinking “why is his/her ability this? That’s not what they do…”
it's funny bc I've always been someone who buys comic books based on the cover (sometimes to my detriment bc then I don't like the story lol) so whenever I get FOMO over a card I just tell myself that I could just...BUY a physical variant copy lol. They got me to pay for a season pass tho, bc I didn't fully understand that it only counts for ONE season, and not a one time purchase. I try to just play the game and not think too much about what i'm doing. it's a very addicting game that scratches a very specific part of my ADHD brain.
I saw an article recently about how Snap was "quickly running out of characters" and like. They haven't even gotten all the characters in the MCU in the game yet. There's the whole black order, they could add another Nova, like 60% of spider man characters are untouched, there's a hundred million X-Men, the black order, the runaways, Amadeus cho, a ton of inhumans, etc.
Someone told me their own principles about what makes a Big Bad card a Big Bad, and one of the factors was complexity. All three current Big Bads are very complicated cards, which a designer might not want to be a player’s first Series 3 card. So keeping very complicated effects locked away in Series 5 is reasonable. Do note the moniker “Big Bad” is unrelated to comic lore, and the cards would instead be chosen by other factors. (Recently the devs have commented on what they think makes a Big Bad card, which is different from what I said, but I think what I said is also relevant.)
I’m also not the most familiar with the comics, but my interpretation is that all locations are in the same planet, Galactus has almost destroy the entire planet, and it’s your opponent last chance to win the remaining location and defeat Galactus.
I love that he mentions how Khang makes the game longer and every time he mentions Khang he yawns (as if he were getting flashbacks of his boring gameplay)
As someone who got into comics around the same time this game came out, I feel I have a very interesting and unique perspective. If I like the character or card I try and dive into their comics. If the card irritates me I dive into their comics. I see this as an absolute win! Also I hate Thanos decks so that makes him feel somewhat more menacing when I see him in comics.
Just heard the description of Galactus’ ability and the comparison to what he actually does in the lore. Before any more is mentioned I will now input the idea I thought of to rework him: Perhaps his power could be increased and when he is placed at a location he destroys all of the cards there and turns it into Ruins. This could make him stronger considering Electro allows him to be played earlier and Knull & Death help rebuild power, but also has counter play if the opponent is able to build the other two locations, making it so whoever plays Galactus has to carefully choose where he is played.
I agree that more of the game could be true to the comics and some characters that were in the initial game were not as strong as they could have been or as comics accurate. They held Thanos, Galactus, and Kang back for this reason but put Apocalypse and Onslaught in the initial game and arguably given who he is Dr. Doom should also be a big bad. Some of the powers do not seem to match the characters and you have seriously iconic characters who have none (Cyclops) and they are holding back some for later like Loki and Jean Grey but they definitely have to bring certain popular characters out later.
I like the idea of Galactus just destroying the have they're played in and the person who played it instantly wins that lane. Maybe it can be replaced by his big head or something. I like the idea of a herald, but the card is already so telegraphed that it doesn't seem fixed by revealing where he's going beforehand - just from a game balance perspective
I wouldn't have the heralds be cards themselves but instead make a random care in your deck be selected as a herald, it'd be identifiable by a special animated aura like magik
Id even be fine with galactus being a macho storm where he just destroys that location and has more power than he currently does and then there are still 2 more locations.
Or maybe, and I'm honestly guessing here I don't know how this game works, the mechanic could be that you play the herald for your oponent and then Galactus takes a turn to do his thing, in which time they have the space to kill and stop him, with the help of it's herald, which theyve've convinced to save their planet from the wrath of their master like the times that has happened in the comics. It's more of a risky play since it's such a powerful card, but if they do defeat it they will have a nice advantage of that herald for the rest of the match
I really wish that cards from same teams had better synergies. The fantastic 4 especially just have zero synergy even though they make sense for the characters. Ebony Maw is absolutely terrible for a Thanos deck, etc.
I'm not terribly familiar with the game, but would it also be possible to have a card that modifies another character INTO a herald? To account for all those little wacky stories where someone like Thor or Aunt May got the Herald gig. While from a TCG angle making it less required that you have Card A before you can even use Card B. The card itself could be a just cool enough buff that it might see independent play, and common enough that by the time you have Biggest G, you'll have plenty of Herald cards to field him.
... or revamp his abilities of if theres any herald of galactus played in this game galactus' power will plus 12. His stats should be 7 cost and 12 power. But if you have four of his heralds in your deck cost -1 -fire lord- destroy random card on your opponent in this location. Ec 2, pow 3 Silversurfer will be cost 3, power be 4 -terrax- inflict half of the cards in this location with -1. Ec 4, pow 5 - air walker- your cards in this location +2 Ec 5, pow 6 So you are forced to play his heralds first to maximize him. It can also be a warning that a big galactus is coming. So he will no longer be the most hated card in snap.
I think the problem (maybe it's not a problem) with this is that Galactus would sometimes not be played. A 4 cost 9 power card is good enough. Same with how the infinity gems are so good that you rarely even see Thanos.
Made it to 95 this season with a surfer deck, hit bounce, and classic discard. The only one that can deal with Galactus is the surfer deck bc goose and cosmo are good boys/girls.
Tbh i think your idea with shuffling heralds is both too complicated and too similar to thanos. The simplest way to make it work more in terms of flavour is to have galactus destroy the lane that he is played at. If you still want the idea of 'you win this lane', i would maybe make him destroy the location, but galactus himself doesn't get destroyed, he just floats there in space in the middle of the location and so you get his power at the empty location. That way it solves the question of "what do you do if both players play galactus in the same location?"
i know nothing about marvel snap but do you know the board game villainous? it started as a disney game but it has a marvel variant (which is a stand-alone game) and the way you talk about snap makes me think you'd enjoy marvel villainous a lot.
Galactus was great when he couldn't be obtained outside of card or location effects that gave you a random card from outside your deck. It could be anything. Quicksilver, Agatha Harkness, nobody knows. When it happens to be Galactus, okay. But the moment you were able to build a deck around him was when he broke the game.
Yeah I like the suggestions you made about Galactus because he and Shuri are the most annoying decks to play against rn. I think the main problem for me is how samey they feel. With Thanos especially there's tons of different decks and way to run him, but Galactus is a copy paste deck with the exact play style every time. I think adding heralds or only destroying a single lane would balance it and would make deck building with galactus more interesting.
The herald idea was almost good until you said you instant win... Have a herald be a 3-? and just have Galactus destroy the location he is played at instead?
I fee Apocalypse does a great "oh lawd he's coming", mechanically speaking. The fact you know for sure he's in your opponent's hand just makes it more terrifying.
More like "or no, Dracula is going to eat this huge Apocalypse"
Well you do know that all that power is going to go on a single lane though
Pull out a Leech asap! Or use cards that can move out of the way to a better lane 😉
Or block the build up cards with an Enchantress or Cosmo
And then for some reason they never end up playing him because they were too busy feeding their Morbius. That's my experience.
Funny that in Snap, Electro and Wolverine are the Heralds of Galactus.
Hearing someone actually talk about Marvel Snap relatably scratched a particular itch. No one I know plays it so I appreciate this video and would love to see more haha
Check out cozy snap
If you wanted to boost the flavor of it, instead of just winning a location, a little animation plays when Galactus is played that destroys the location it’s on and turns it into “Devoured Planet.” The location would destroy any card on it that isn’t Galactus or his herald.
Alternatively, Galactus destroys a location, his power is buffed depending on how many cards were on that location, and he moves to a new location
Not gonna lie I think Galactus is fine, but love listening to you talk about anything nerdy
So stoked to see you covering Snap!
I'd like it if Galactus just said "At the start of the next turn, destroy this location." Retain the flavor of him arriving and then eating a planet, and there's still time for counterplay.

Apparently the most deep cut character is Infinaut. He's been in like only 5 comics. It's crazy how unknown he was.
It's strange how they didn't make Heralds a thing, where he can power up a character to be his Herald.
Pretty sure Taskmaster is a he. Idc about TV shows.

totally agree, there's so much they could do with Galactus to make him more fun to play and play against.

I’d actually feel so powerful with a Galactus fake-out win. Brilliant card change
As long as they don't turn him into a giant space fart.

Made it to 95 this season with a surfer deck, hit bounce, and classic discard. The only one that can deal with Galactus is the surfer deck bc goose and cosmo are good boys/girls.
My two worlds just collided😱😱
Heck yeah love marvel snap
Galactus was great when he couldn't be obtained outside of card or location effects that gave you a random card from outside your deck. It could be anything. Quicksilver, Agatha Harkness, nobody knows. When it happens to be Galactus, okay. But the moment you were able to build a deck around him was when he broke the game.
Nando V Movies deck profile videos incoming?👀👀
Yeah I like the suggestions you made about Galactus because he and Shuri are the most annoying decks to play against rn. I think the main problem for me is how samey they feel. With Thanos especially there's tons of different decks and way to run him, but Galactus is a copy paste deck with the exact play style every time. I think adding heralds or only destroying a single lane would balance it and would make deck building with galactus more interesting.
Regularly watch Snap content and your casting videos but it took TH-cam 2 months to do the math and put this video on my front page...
The herald idea was almost good until you said you instant win... Have a herald be a 3-? and just have Galactus destroy the location he is played at instead?
