D2 has a bunch of chromium but the majority of it is used to form carbides not in solution that is why it isnt considered stainless. I'd say that although 3V has less of it they are about there same with that regard. Really like the look of the Smolt. Thanks for the great vid and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable.
I carry fixies for a purpose. Hiking and camping I like to have one, and I keep one in my glovebox for emergencies (Kizer fixed Justice with carbide glass punch). Hard use knives for hard use situations, which are generally less than 5% of my life. But right tool for the right time.
I picked up the DeckHand when it was on early bird sale and got a free set of red micarta scales for it. Also put a 3.3 ulticlip on the sheath. Fits in pocket nicely, love it!!
Good content. Helpful video. Thanks for talking about steels, finishes, and coatings. I’ll be curious about future developments and refinements in these areas. 🤟🏽💪🏽
The first one doesn't do it for me aesthetically. Totally a nitpick, but imo it looks like a folder that doesn't fold. Design-wise as well, what does it have that a small folder doesn't?
MC talking about fixed blades always reminds me of somebody that says "I don't like anime, but..." then talks about DBZ and Attack on Titan for an hour.
@@joelamaro4525 Yeah they offer quite a few models in 4V, and they do a decent job with it. Could be harder but still performs really well. So would be nice if they used 4V

Look at my guy metal underscore complex looking at some fixed blades....RESPECT...👊

I didn't think that I needed another knife (already have around 200) then you showed the Smolt and yes indeed I need another.
I think 3V is more corrosion resistant than base D2, or the same. Right?
I like D2 but have had a bit of a rust issue on my appendix carry fixed blade.
I generally put an acid wash forced patina on my D2. That is enough to keep the rust away for me anyways. Might be worth a try.
You are absolutely wrong MC! 3v and cruwear are the most stainless, non-stainless steels there are. Knife Steel Nerds!
Is there a unboxing video of the folders?
Love the Smolt. And the designers of both knives are pretty cool peeps.
I have the Smolt. It’s a nice fixed blade. It’s the preferred size I like to carry if I carry one. It’s rare when I do but the Smolt is a great one.
I’m pretty sure 3V has better corrosion resistance compared to D2.

Recently got a deckhand and it is a great little fixie. Also not a fixed blade guy
Get an ulticlip. Makes carrying fixed blades much easier.
Put an ulticlip 3.3 slim on it and front pocket carry.

Fixed blade.
Good vid as usual. I have a kizer in 3v. Its my fave steel. And your right it didnt cost 400 freakin bucks like others
How do you clean adhesive off blades?
rubbing alcohol, de-greaser, even gasoline or vodka would take off simple adhesives
MC talking about fixed blades always reminds me of somebody that says "I don't like anime, but..." then talks about DBZ and Attack on Titan for an hour.
You left out Macross, Akira, Gundam, Totoro,….😆😆😆👌🤓
@Stromboli15 that's because he doesn't like anim- fixed blades.
And neither am I.
Fixed blades.
Not Anime
those dekchands look nice I might be in the market for one
The Smolt will be a big hit. Then they’ll come out with a better steel version. Yeah, I’ll get that one too cause I’m nuts.😊
Ohhhh I love the smolt... matches the Kizer Militaw perfectly. Going out in Style(s)
Thank you MC
Nice I have been wanting one of these..the Smolt
I love small fixies. I have the cabox and it sits appendix like it's not even there.
Appendix is the way to go on an EDC fixed blade, I love it!
On such a small fixed blade I wish the 3V was harder than 58-60HRC, or even better go with 4V.
Same, especially since they have already put out a knife in 4V.

@@Cid_1 I have their Kobold 2.0 in 4V.
@@joelamaro4525 I have that on the way, was only $60 on sale a few days ago. But I got the mini sheepdog, Feist XL & Begleiter in 4V.
@@Cid_1 HA! Yup, I just git mine during the sale as well. Not for the fidget people but I think it will make a great EDC to actually use.
Fixed blades have their place, but for me, im not going to edc one. Unless out trekking, hunting, and the like.
I'm pulling that out at the Outback. 😂
Been waiting for this video
Looks like a Fixed Blade Militaw
Yep, zero interest in either one.
10 on the slap
I'm a born and raised Portland native... I hate the hipster embarrassment that is "james brand". Garbage company just like Benchmade.
WHY?!!! Doesn't anyone make a decent pocket carry fixed blade?
I wish the smolt was actually coated instead of a black wash
Me too! I thought it was actual dlc coated when I first saw it.
You call that a burp? Come on now, my 4yo granddaughter can do much better 😅
James Brand, the 2024 Parts Manager 😂😂😂 It's no longer Larry that touched you by the wash rack 😂😂
First like, heck, yeah, MC, you the man.
Kizer has been releasing boring other than the Mystic for almost two years now... it's so sad to see while other companies are far more exciting.
🗡🔪
This was a HORRIBLE review!!! You didn't even test them
🙄
Probably because it's not a review it's an unboxing. Review is down the road. So go back to corner and shush.
He did test them. Go back to 14:57
