Just an itty bitty small correction, the great gama was born in a city called Amritsar in India (before it split into India and Pakistan) and he did Pehlwani wrestling, not turkish oil wrestling

My bad, I was likely confusing him with another impossible buff moustachioed man-mountains I’ve written about in the past.

If you ever want to do another video on interesting boxers, I would suggest looking into Nicolino Locche. He was an Argentine boxer who was kind of the opposite of Earnie Shavers or Sam Langford. He couldn't hit very hard at all, but had a ton of fights with the majority of them being wins. Because his defense was so insanely good, that people rarely ever got a clean hit on him; and he exhausted people. His nickname in spanish translated to "The Untouchable," and he also hated training and basically chain smoked to keep his weight down.

A favourite story of mine about an athlete being built different is Janja Garnbrett. She was in the semi finals of a lead climbing event when her chalk bag fell a few moves in (chalk is pretty much necessary for climbing). She still topped the route with time to spare and (if I remember correctly) won gold at the finals as well.

Early baseball has some crazy stories about athletes. Jackie Mitchell was an amazing ball player and struck out both Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Yetno one has ever heard of her

    • @craigstoner2632

Being a world champion in baseball is, on the world stage, comparable to being regional champions.
Noone cares about baseball, its not international. Probably why I only know babe Ruth is because his name is 2 things you'd call a woman, and uncommon.

About The Great Gama there's a story about him, i think when he was a teen? Back in his village, he'd casually walk around while carrying a boulder weighing up to 1200 Kg (1200000 grams, 1.322774 US tons).
It's also stated that his workout regimen played a part in inspiring Bruce Lee himself.

The Australian cricket captain Greg Chappell ordered his brother Trevor to bowl the final ball underarm, not to thwart any individual record by the New Zealand batsman Brian McKechnie, but to prevent him scoring the winning runs by hitting a six (clearing the boundary on the full), something he was exceptionally unlikely to do anyway.

Deontay Wilder is similar in this respect with his absolutely devastating sledgehammer of a right hook, by far the hardest hitting in the heavyweight division, Unfortunately he sunk all of his stats into his punch and the rest of his boxing abilities are average/slightly above average and could be beaten soundly by many more technical boxers in the division, but aside from Furys resurrection on the mat, if he lands a big hand on anybody, they are going down.
It doesnt help of course that Wilder come across as a massive bellend.

you might say we would be much less along than we are because of the challenges of such things, and proof is in the pudding with how the lack of challenges to people today have stifled our progress scientifically and politically. We need to bring back challenge in some way to motivate people. I guess worry about climate and such is something that is motivating some, but there are also those grifters that use fear of these things to get rich but do nothing to solve any of the issues that are claimed as being present.
