I love their expressions during that exchange: Nairo's look of absolute surprise with that perfect :O face and Elegant's grimace and rather scared look (not to mention the pain of having to do a no-jump mash like that). The player cams were EVERYTHING for this tournament
zyko97 Lol this is three months late but whateves With specialty moves, you generally have to hit a sweet spot, meaning that there is many things that can throw off that spike. Elegant could have gained control enough to use his double jump, which would have displaced his height enough to mess with the spike. Also, there’s a percentage window where a down smash into side b will work, elegant might not have been the right percentage to work it
not discrediting TheFlyingFish (and this is also months late), but I'm pretty sure it's because nairo tapped the b button again, which automatically triggered the kick instead of having to wait for the full arc. flip kick has two versions, similar to how little mac's jolt haymaker works, and only the full arc one spikes. he most likely did this to get the kick in before elegant could airdodge, because as flyingfish said, d-smash to full arc flipkick isn't true at low percents.
You can't blame it all on Nairo i think it should be acknowledged that Elegant has become a very good player. It was somewhat obvious though Nairos emotions got the best of him last game i think or the nerves
@@bigbrent224 dude, it's not even the best in the game. besides, he makes up for it with how predictable and easy to edge-guard it is. elegant's one of the only Luigis who can mix up his abysmal recovery, and that's simply because he can mash.
Nairo was playing foolishly. I'm no expert, but I've seen enough of his videos to get an idea of what he could have done. Those jabs would have helped and Nairo threw out f-smashes. That attack sucks unless your opponent fucks up or if he/she is stunned. Ugh.
Nairo didn't even F-Smash that much this set. The first game was prob suppose to be a f-tilt cuz he wouldn't just F-Smash in neutral. And the F-Smash 2nd game was trying to catch an air dodge read or aggressive option, but Luigi's nair came out. And Nairo did jab too. Sure Nairo is a top player, but he's bound to make mistakes as a human. He wasn't as confident as he normally was and I doubt he'd have any practice against a Luigi like Elegant, who is insanely good.
The problem was that Nairo just stoped playing smash seriously for almost a month and he said it himself, he doesnt practice that much. One month without any REAL competition will get ya, specially when the rest of the players were still active, he was rusty and he payed the price :(

why would anyone root for dabuz and rosalina over someone as hype, stylish, and talented as Elegant and his luigi lmao, thats like rooting for bayonetta over captain falcon... plus rosalina completely shuts out luigi in that matchup. just as bad, if not worse imo, than luigi+mewtwo
