I like how where the book takes it to and brings it back to humanity, although the ending is somewhat sad, it could have ended in more terrible ways, looking at the stakes involved and too happy ending may have been somewhat cliche. Thank you for this!
Hey mate, just wanted to thank you for this video, as well as the videos covering the last couple books. I just finished the expanse season 6 on tv and just had to know what happened after that. Thank you soooooooo much, my man!
I just finished the book. Really sad that the gates had to be put down. The epilogue made me think about aliens visiting Earth (common ancestry, but iterations and mutations altered physique). Great book! Great work of literature! Thank you for the summaries! :)
I am not a book reader, but The Expanse made me listen rest 3 books. The tv show helped me to have a vivid imagination. The last three books are fantastic ride.
The whole part with Amos at the end made me look at the series completely differently. It made me look at it as the origin story of Amos Burton.... Like WOW
Imagine you're in the ring space, Holden tells you to be prepared to stay where you'll go. And you have family on a planet that hasn't reached self-sustainability yet and there's absolutely no way of any help coming in thousands of years. You return to certain slow death, either by starvation, asphyxiation or violent death in fight over remaining resources. Even if you wanted to tell others with regular antennas, millenia would pass before anyone could hear your fate. This end left me sad.
Yea that part was sad, because a lot of the systems will fail and a lot of people will die. But I am sure that there will be a few surprise successes, systems that should have died but survived.
No. There were two ways it could have ended. Duarte's way would have changed humans to something like the builders, but the war between the dark universe and ours would have never ended. But since the slow zone was part of the other universe that was held by the builders to allow worm hole travel, all he (Holden) had to do was allow the slow zone to revert back to its universe and both universes separated, but he dies in the process.
Thank You for the video. Great job. I have a few questions: Did the builders new that they were hurting the old univers by taking the energy for the station? Why the builders did not end the station in order to make pace? thank you
To both questions the books do not say, but on question one. I don't think it entered their mind, this is the same species that wiped out life in hundreds of star systems with their protomolecule without worrying about what life maybe developing in those systems. On question two, they had never been challenged the only life they knew about was themselves. You have to develop in a competitive environment to gain a concept of peace. I don't think that they ever figured out that the station and the other universe was the problem.
Thank you so much for these videos. They helped a lot! I love the TV show but I was pissed off by the last episode. I was expecting they explain everything since it was the last one. Unfortunately, they left so many questions. Even after the last 3 books, I still have a lot of questions. For example, ring builders are hive minded and they are maybe 100 times smarter than human. If they were wiped out by unknown aggressor, what make Duarte think make human hive mind can defeat unknown aggressor? How protomolecule was created? Why only 3 or 4 people connect to library? Why can't they make more?
Duarte knew that since the ring builders evolved from something like jelly fish and communicated internally using light, they were never that strong physically. A human hive mind would be stronger because we are made of stronger stuff a nd better able to survive against the UA. How the protomolecule was created was never explained, but it was an AI robot that was designed to be launched towards systems where life was possible and then use the organic and inorganic material to build and add to the gate system. In order to connect to the library you had to be rebuilt by the repair droids and as far as we know they only existed in two places, the ring station and Laconia. Duarte was the only one that was able to connect to the library who was not repaired by the droids. So to connect to the library you had to die first.
Late to this but glad I found it. Haven’t gotten around to reading the last few books. Don’t care about spoilers. Thanks. I’m much more into the world building and wish the whole of what the gate builders civilization was explored much further. What other “sentient” life did they interact with, and were there other “close to level in tech” civilizations that didn’t use the protomolecule as a tech base? So many questions. Any recommendations similar to the expanse or along those lines? Mind you I’m pushing 50 and been reading sci-fi since 14 so no Asimov or any of his contemporaries. Maybe something your only familiar with in all your travels. Graphic novels are cool too and I’ve been going through those like crazy even before the pandemic. Well of this gets ignored no worries.
Have you read the Three Body Problem by Liu Cixin ? It's an excellent series. Ten Billion Days and One Hundred Billion Nights by Ryu Mitsuse and The Carpet Makers by Andreas Eschbach are also very good.
@@MadFabe yes, I also follow Quinn’s ideas but that one’s a classic he talks about a ton. I’m looking for even more obscure from fellow enthusiasts. Good one to throw out there. The others I haven’t heard of and will look into.
I'm very appreciative of these summaries, making my way through book 9 and it's nice to have recaps.. Also, I hope you're Austrian because your voice reminds me of Schwarzenegger but if not that's totally fine!
@@MadFabe nice to connect, TJ from the US. I don't read a lot of books but got very into The Expanse show and decided to read 7,8,9 to see how this story ends. Looks like when I'm done with Leviathan Falls there's plenty of content on your channel to supplement future reads!
@@MadFabe satisfying conclusion. I wonder, had they just let Duarte do what he was going to, would the same result have happened? Was Duarte going to destroy the ring system? A little surprised there was no Naomi/Phillip reunion. I see you have a Sins of our Fathers video and I'm very tempted to watch that now but wonder if I should read it first, I would have to acquire the novella. If they were to cast Tanaka for a revived show, I could see Michelle Yeoh in the role.
But what happened to Felip??? He was alive at the end of TW. Maybe this will get addressed in the last novella?? Or did i miss something? (Maybe i lost time reading? Lol)
It is likely that Filip is in the Sol system somewhere. Remember Naomi does not know that he is alive, she thinks that he died with Marco, but he didn't he abandoned Marco and stayed on Callisto.
It’s very possible that Filip relocated to a different system in the decades between BA and LF, but I like to think that he stayed in Sol and seeks out Naomi after the gates are destroyed. Maybe the joy of being with her son again could offset the pain of losing Jim again.
Technically Miller is not alive. He is a stored replication of Miller's original mind that is stored in the protomolecule network (slow zone station). The network does not mind what the replicant mind does so long as it preforms the task assigned to it. Since James had contact with protomolecule, the replicant mind of Miller always will be able to contact him when the network needs help. In this case the network needed help in stopping the dark universe.
Awwwe this is turning sad. All humans cut off from each other. Humans not done well so I'd rather transform maybe. 😆 This writer is amazing. How ever did he come up woth all this new original story & stuff. Wow. Was the ending the descendants of Amos, etc who after 1k years etc they kept the name s through the family nanming all of the males in each generation the same name or making them the junior of that name ?
At the very end of the series. A thousand years later they are beginning to reconnect using their own technology without the threat of the other universe.
At first I was sad about the ending, imagining how painfully lonely Amos would've been. But there were hints and comments along the series that he would be "the last one standing", so it made sense. I like how Naomi was right- humans did figure a way to travel the stars. My heart wants to know what happened with Kit and family, Filip, Teresa, Elvie and Amos's stories...so many stories that could still be told 😍

Yea Amos will never change.
"If we're good, then I'm just some asshole" Oh man that was perfect
@@Tgjarman Yea good last line.

No worries, even Rose had a great life without Jack😂
