I'm confused, I am seeing other information that says we can fill it out on Oct 1st?
It is confusing! The Fafsa simplification Act that went in for last year has made a disaster of Financial Aid and the FAFSA. For 2025/26 school year, the FAFSA will be opening for the masses December 1. That was announced by the department of education in mid August 2024.
There will be a very limited opening October 1, but I do not recommend because there will be errors and mistakes, and FAFSA will need to be updated. This process is frustrating enough without having to go back and redo it several times!
I am confused as well! 2025/26 our son will be a rising junior so will be a renewal for us. So we will apply on Dec1st?
@@soniaalmstadt You can fill out the fafsa your students SENIOR year. You will fill out the fafsa 2026 in Oct or Dec. We will see what the department of education is saying then.
my daughter is a senior, can she create an account now and fill out the form in december 1?
Absolutely, and you will need to a FAFSA id as well. Create those now and fill all the information out in December.
@@MonicaFeltonCFP thanks for your fast reply. My husband is the only one working, should he be the parent to create an account? I made the mistake to create an account I just put my information and not my daughter info yet. So I watched another TH-camr saying that the student should create it first. So I don’t know if this will be a problem.
@@ruthfv123 You can fill out the fafsa for you and your husband. You are using your joint tax return. I don't believe it will be a problem if you created yours first and daughter second. Good luck!
