Carpathia's Mjolnir Mark 6 Armor Reveal

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 28 ต.ค. 2012
  • Since August of 2011, I have been working on a suit of Mk VI armor from Halo 3 to wear to the launch of Halo 4 on November 6, 2012. With 12 days to spare, I finished the suit. It is made from 110 lb cardstock, hardened with fiberglass and resin, smoothed with automotive body filler and lit with 30 blue LEDs and 4 white LEDs.
    This build, and any future additions, can be followed from beginning to ending on my thread at the 405th...
    www.405th.com/showthread.php/3...)
    The program I used is called Pepakura Designer
    www.tamasoft.co.jp/pepakura-en/
    and the files are all found here...
    www.4shared.com/folder/CCB_6Qw...
    Please keep in mind that the files found in the database are all modeled by 405th forum members and NOT Microsoft, Bungie or 343. To my knowledge, these were not ripped or stolen in any way. They are original works of fans based on reference pictures found on the internet. To be safe, and due to my lack of absolute certainty of the files' origins, this suit is not for sale.

    Honestly one of the better Halo costumes out there because of the undersuit. Some people just don't make a good one or simply use a morphsuit

      If you like this, then be sure to check out "Home Ground - A Halo Short Film" by ImperialFilm1 here on TH-cam. It is a short movie following a small group of independent fighters holding off a wave of insurrectionists. And they get a little help ;o) In this film, you will also get a glimpse of my finished battle rifle.

    Unless you're talking about the stuff at 8:37, in which case, that's called "rondo." Rondo is a combination of resin and bondo body filler. Really, it's just thinned down body filler since all body filler is is resin with an additive to make it thick. We use rondo to fill in the gaps when strengthening the armor. In this case, I used it to add a missing detail.

    The center hatch detail was done with three layers of black crafting foam covered with plastidip and sewn in. I may need to replace it in the future, but so far it's holding up well.

  • @carpathiavh99
    @carpathiavh99  11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I actually made two shin sizes before I arrived at this one. The way I finally got the size, I measured from the top of my knee cap to about half-an-inch above where the boot would end up. Since I built the shins before my boots, I just assumed that the boots would come up to just above my ankle joint. Really, it's all trial and error. I would suggest trying to find a low def file with roughly the same measurements and using that as a guide. That's what I did with a lot of the pieces.

  • @carpathiavh99
    @carpathiavh99  11 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I did end up covering nearly the entire helmet in bondo. However, I only did a small section at a time in order to maintain the detail. One of the worst mistakes you can make is slopping bondo over the entire piece in one go.

  • @carpathiavh99
    @carpathiavh99  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The shin file I used is different than the one you typically find. The base file was orignially created by Nicktendo, but then was later modified by Crackhead09 and unfolded by Ral Partha. I highly recommend this file since it has more of the detail that is present in the game.

  • @carpathiavh99

    The undersuit is made from vinyl material, usually used for furniture. You can find it pretty much anywhere they sell fabric. The neckseal (the part that covers my neck) is actually leather.

    I put my shin armor on backwards, then rotate them around into place (that's actually shown in the video at 12:00). They are a tight fit, but they go on and come off much better backwards.

    Hey man, awesome suit you got there. I think for the gun you can: 1 - Make it with cardboard, and then put Velcro on it and at the back of the suit or something and that way you can attach it to the back of the armour, or: 2 - make it heavier (more realistic) and find some other way to harness it to your back while still being able to access it easily.

    This came up in my recommended looks really good. I dunno why but the arms look wrong to me. I dunno if the gauntlet are unpreportional or if its the biceps. But there's too much exposed arm. Otherwise if that's the only thing I can find wrong I say good on ya m8 🍻

    • @carpathiavh99
      @carpathiavh99  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good catch. The biceps are a bit undersized for mobility purposes. I found that I couldn't move my arms around well enough when they were mocked up at the correct scale. The thighs are also a bit of a mobility problem. They're correctly scaled, but I can't kneel or even sit down to save my life. Putting the boot covers on is a chore.

  • @stultus3435

    So what kept you going even if it was hard to make the suit?

    • @carpathiavh99
      @carpathiavh99  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It had been a desire to have a suit for a long time, since the game came out in fact; so there was a strong motivation throughout the whole process. The more pieces I completed, the easier it was to continue, because I wanted to see the completed suit. Also, the more parts I finished, the better my technique and skill got; so it became more fun to build and hone my skill. The torso was the last part that I built, and in my opinion, it is the best looking piece.

      I used low-def files to try different sizes until I found a size that fit. I probably went through nearly a dozen sizes before I found the right one.

      Carpathia's Creations also glue in heavy duty magnets insider ur armor pieces, and sow in thin sheet metal strips in parts of ur undersuit that dont articulate, so you can remove the straps so it looks cleaner.

    • @carpathiavh99
      @carpathiavh99  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** I built the torso to a height of 438mm. It's sized perfectly to my own torso, so you'll have to size your armor you your own body; my measurements won't help all that much. One tip I can offer is that if there is a low-def version of the armor (and there are plenty of low-def pieces for the Mk VI), use that as a size tester rather than trying to build a high-def piece off the bat. A low-def file will give you a relatively quick paper prototype to see if the size you have chosen will work, and what will need to be adjusted. I went through half a dozen size trials for my thigh armor. If I would have tried to build the high-def version for each of those failed trials, it would have been a huge waste of paper and time.
