Good intro, looking forward to hearing your comparison of tracks on vinyl vs digital. Is a MoFi pressing really that much better than other versions? Do you like vinyl better than the digital experience in every case? Does vinyl provide that warmth on your system or does the Denafrips get you close?
Thanks for the comment and question. In my experience, which is limited with MoFi, both my titles are excellent. I have that first Dire Straits album and Simon & Garfunkel's Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme. They are both extremely quiet and absolutely holographic in soundstage. I had researched both and was very happy with my decision. Over all I do like vinyl better for my listening experience. However not every album I own from my digital collection will make it to vinyl. I'll have a new video out on Feb 7th that goes over how I determine what format I want to listen to a particular album. Yeah... vinyl does have that warmth for sure. I tell ya, the Denafrips DAC gets sooooooo close to that sound. I was blown away with this DAC. Worth every penny I spent on it. Thanks again for the comment!
Thanks for the comment. I'm actually working on doing an episode on live recordings as its fascinating to "see" where you are as a listener in the crowd. Some recordings have you 10th row center and others have you back around the 50th row. I should have something out in the coming weeks on this very subject.
Great question. For me, in my room, yes, it made a difference. The Soundstage was noticeably larger in width and height. The imaging was more locked in and vivid. It's probably because of the tubes. I did upgrade to the Golden Lion tubes after about 6 months, and that made a difference as well. I'm very happy with this phono preamp. It pairs well with the Rotel. Thanks for watching!
Thx again with the update, I purchased the same project tube preamp for my Rotel All Tribute. I have also have the same cartridge on my TT and stylus, what gain setting and dip switch settings have you set your pre-amp?
I've also set my gain to 43 as well, I believe all my dip switches are set to off right now.. I'm surprised how much more amplified and clear the sound is though my focal chora 806 speakers. I'm just wondering if there is maximum dipswitch settings for a AT cartridge with the vm95ml stylus
@Olympiakospp looks like all my dip switches are in the off position as well. Yeah, I had the same reaction. I really like this phono preamp. I did swap out to the Genalex Gold Lion 12AX7 tubes. Got them on Amazon. Looks like it is $113 for the pair. That made a nice difference for me as well.
Fellow Gen Xer.. Great insight. Appreciate your take within the audio realm....

I too have the Rotel A11 tribute, Does the Project tube box S2 make a noticeable difference from the built in pre-amp in the Amp?

@@Olympiakospp I set my gain at 43 and I use the subsonic filter. I'll have to check the dip switch settings and get back to you.
