I gotta be honest. This was one of my favorites as a kid. Also, the Cobra Viper Pilot is my favorite Blueshirt besides the Stinger Driver. I got a whole summer out of mine before the inevitable happened and the fall winds took my Glider and Pilot into a tall tree. Eventually it came down broken, but my Pilot was okay. As punishment for destroying expensive Cobra equipment he was demoted to a squad leader fand reported to my original Officer and helped manage my handful of troopers. Most times he ended up riding shotgun in my Stinger once I got it the next year.
Awesome review. I agree with a lot of what you said about the glider and the viper pilot. The other thing that bothers me besides the fragility of both gliders is the scale of the glider to the actual figure. Granted if it was to actual scale it would be more like the Cobra claw but as an adult collector even if I wanted to shell out the money to get the gliders I would most likely hang them from ceiling like my other jets and helicopters but I honestly think it would look kind silly. If your a completest you gotta have it. But for some one like me it's pretty low on my list of things to get. Oh and good job on not breaking the damn thing when flying it lol.

@@HCC788 I'm only a completist inasmuch as the parameters I set for myself. Like I don't need any of the straight arms. I want every carded and driver/pilot figure from 1982-1983-1990 not including the repaints of the substeams like Python Patrol, Tiger Force, Slaughter Mauraders, etc. I have no interest in those. And as far as vehicles go, I'll get most vehicles and playsets between 1982-1990. I'll never own the Flagg likely, and these gliders are flimsy as hell, and totally not worth it. Obviously, most of the Sears exclusives are expensive and hard to come by, but practically everything else is fair game. I have 72 vehicles including the Mobile Command Center, Night Raven, Thunder Clap, Rolling Thunder, Vamp, Rattler, like all the famous ones. The only 2 major ones I'm missing are the Skystriker and the Killer Whale. Once I get those, I'll be golden.
My Viper Glider came with a Cobra Officer, not a Cobra repaint. My Mom bought it new in 1983. Was there an "Exclusive" that came with an Officer, instead of the normal Viper Pilot?

I'm hooked to your channel more or less two months ago when I played with my brother konami's videogame G.I.Joe and started to look for information about the characters in the game. I found your channel and I'm watching all of your videos. I would never have espected this small world of gijoe collectors and all of the vehicles and stuff. And what is more: I would never have espected to be waiting for toys reviews on the internet! I have unearth my childhood gijoe toys and restored their 'O' rings. Many articulations are a bit loose but I don't know how to fix that. If you could make a video showing how to do it I'll be very pleased. I'm from Spain (and maybe my English is not very correct, sorry) and we still keep the toys cards and also the boxes of our vehicles (Night Raven S3P and Mean Dog) and I have apreciated many differences between the american and the spanish gijoe: some names are changed, or rather translated although sometines is a very 'free' translation and something funny is that here the slogan is not 'A real american hero', here it is 'International heroes'. Here S.A.C. is Soldado Androide Cobra (Cobra Android Soldier) but I don't know what does that acronym mean in the american version. I never noticed until the end of the commercial at the end of the review, but those gliders (protoypes clearly) are different designs than the retails. The cammo patterns, the lack of the support frame. Makes me wonder what we could of got.
+Deadduck2pt0 I have to assume the support frame was added t give it a little more support. And by making the Viper and Falcon cammo patterns the same, they could run them off of the same printer, with just different colored foam board. Cheaper.
HCC, I agree with you, about wasting a cool name like Viper on a cheap toy. Use it for the cooler characters, ie Night Viper, Hydro Viper Cobra's Peeping Tom, Window Viper!!
so he's got reverse pigeon toes...hahahahahaaaaaa.... the one thing that stopped me from getting this was the glider being so fragile I would have broke that thing ten minutes out of the box ...nice work man I always thought those things in his sleeve was extra bullets for his gun...
+M.G.Villan There were much better toys to buy. It was still on the shelves in 1984, competing with the Cobra Rattler. There is no contest. The Rattler became the backbone of the Cobra air force.
I wouldn't waste my money on either of the gliders today however the viper pilot does have merit. I wouldn't mind picking up a couple Viper pilots for cheap and use them as a gunner for the Cobra Rattler or Claw pilot.
+magnificentfungizoids Wouldn't be a bad idea. If the chest emblem has worn off, they don't make great display pieces. But they could occupy a vehicle.

Great review! I'm not a fan of the Viper or Falcon gliders at all. Despite their rarity, I don't think it's worth what they go for because they're flimsy and breakable toys.
Good one, even if the glider is in pretty bad shape... I guess it would be nearly impossible to find one of those like new. Also it's a shame the silver symbol on the pilot has rubbed off... but we know the silver paint to be very fragile. I think the glider shows how GI Joe toys were not designed to be durable.. I think.

As a kid I never had this. I just made a cheap substitute out of card board (didn't fly) and called it a day.

I threw mine in the air twice and that was it. Ditto for the Falcon. I still have them and the figures.
