Lego Wars is invite only, and Pain was rebuilt from scratch using instructions I sent because I live far away. It was a big favor and I am happy they rebuilt and fought it for a season, although they chose not to accept it for this season. It’s one of the more expensive designs in the competition, and I can imagine they needed parts for the flood of new bots entering the field. I am happy that it got to compete, and tear up some robots in the process.
How to build a Lego bot depends on the type of design, what parts/electronics you already have, your budget, and if you are ok with 3rd party motors and power sources. In Lightning I used a buwizz 2.0 battery, cheap 3rd party buggy motor knockoff, and 2 Lego pf L motors. The expensive but quality alternative is a buwizz 3.0, buwizz motor, and 2 PU L motors, which is the setup for my bot Bruin. Going 100% Lego is hard now because the Power Functions parts are discontinued, but if you choose this path I would recommend a Train motor for the weapon, 2 PF m motor drive, 2 IR receivers, and an AA battery pack.
