      @NorthStar8211 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +41

      Mufasa and Bambi's mother did not die at the beginning, they died almost half an hour into their movies. They showed Bambi's mother in Who Framed Roger Rabbit so it has little to do with that. I think they just wanted to give Kerchak and Ray more exposure and not just show the most popular characters. Mufasa and Bambi's mother have been seen lots in the past. My opinion though is that these two should have also been included here as they are so iconic.

I was slightly exaggerating but Mufasa still died about 25 minutes into the movie which is almost one and a half an hour long. So he died after almost 1/3 of the movie. That's far from the beginning. Here’s my take on it. Kerchak wouldn’t have changed the course of the story. Jane and her father would still leave their lives and go to live with the gorillas if he was dead or not. However, mufasa’s death caused a major shift in the movie. It’s how scar was able to get Mufasa and Simba out of the way so he can take over as king. Yes, both of them died. However I think that the animators didn’t include the deaths of heroes that change the course of the movie they were in. Mufasa’s death changed the course of the lion king while Kerchak’s didn’t change what would happen in the end of Tarzan.

  • @falcoskywolf
    @falcoskywolf 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +135

    Considering that Mufasa could have shown up in ghost cloud form, they could have used him, BUT- they showed Simba and Nala as cubs, long before Mufasa would have shown himself to Simba in cloud ghost form. So either we're operating on "Mufasa hasn't died yet" terms or "this is shortly after his death."

    • @NorthStar8211
      @NorthStar8211 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +25

      It doesn't follow the timeline of the movie. They follow the trope of animated actors. Especially considering that heroes and villains all stand together and are mostly on good terms (see Frollo next to Esmeralda or Phoebus). It is more or less as in House of Mouse or Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Interestingly, Simba and Nala appear both as adults and as cubs in House of Mouse with no consistency, suggesting that as animated actors they can switch between their cub and adult forms.

    Mufasa died early in the movie and was an influential character as a spirit, Kerchak was alive for most of the movie and has a lot of importance while he’s alive.

  • @haydenweaver7974
    @haydenweaver7974 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    I think Ray and Kerchak are present because they didn't pass away until the end of the movie, and therefore their deaths were not critical to the plot, whereas characters like Mufasa, Bambi's Mother, and Queen Iduna and King Agnarr died much earlier in the film, making their deaths more critical to the plot of the film (so that explains their absences).

    I think the reason that Scar and Kerchak were shown, though both died, was that they were shown through out the movie or at least known to be alive through out the movie, only to be killed at the end, and that is why they were shown and not Mufasa, Bambi's mom, or Anna and Elsa's parents, for they died at or near the beginning of the movie. I don't know, just my thoughts on the matter.

    I mean if that was the case then why didn't they use adult Simba and Nala over theirs young version? Also if you look really closely you can even see Ray from The Princess and the Frog in there too who wouldn't make sense to be there too since he die in his film as well too.

    • @IsaacCarlson
      @IsaacCarlson  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I think that's a great question! Apparently the idea was that they wanted to take characters in the form that they are the most recognizable. So Simba and Nala are young because that's how most people picture them. I completely agree too that Ray wouldn't make sense to be included in the line up with the idea that we should respect characters passing. By the way, thank you for the Super Thanks!

      Clopin does not appear and he did not even die in his movie. A character's absence is not a spoiler. Kocoum does not appear either and that is not a spoiler that he dies (if people have not seen the movies, they will not even know or expect to see these characters). I think that Disney just thought that they have way too many lions in the short already. Still, leaving out Mufasa was not a wise decision. They could have kept him as a silent character.

    Because Mufasa canonically died during filming. They wanted to get that sense of realism, y'know? So they made it as authentic as possible, so they trampled him with real animated wildebeasts on-set.
    Simba's reaction was also a live reaction, they managed to get it all in a single take.

  • @hannahlarkin3567
    @hannahlarkin3567 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I think it’s more to do with how long their role was in the movie. You have to remember, Anna and Elsa’s parents were only in the beginning of Frozen. I can see it the same way with Mufasa, even though we see him again to tell Simba to remember who he is. Now knowing this, I think that’s why it’s so different with Kerchak because yes he passes on, however it’’s not until almost at the end of the movie.

    The main two things with Kerchak are that his death was closer to the end of the movie than most, letting us see quite a bit of him in Tarzan, and that he died when Tarzan was an adult. All of the ones mentioned here use the parental figure’s death as a backstory in a sense. Most of these happen before the third act (besides maybe Bambi since I haven’t seen that one in forever) and all of them happen during the main character’s childhood that they show distain over. They all serve as trauma. Kerchak happens near the end of the movie and happens during Tarzan’s adulthood. Tarzan’s human parents serve that role far better, even if they weren’t in the movie
