    Hey Neil
    Only just came across this on the channel today. Your height adjustment is exactly what I need for the rebuild of my drum sander. Right now I adjust the bed up and down, much easier to adjust the roller. Thanks for the idea and the inspirational channel.
    David

    Thank you. I was searching for making a roller to make flakes with medium dough. I was thinking of two rollers and you have showed with a single roller. Thank you for the beautiful idea.

    PVC was a great idea. Could be applied to drum sanders and other tools that need true straight drum rollers. Really enjoying your channel. Thanks for posting friend!!!

    Perhaps filling it with concrete plus rebar and glass fibres in the mix, for new builds, would also work fine

    Seems as though the original could have used a thicker bar at the center, too, so it wouldn't have deflected as much. It's probably doing it less, but still doing it.

    Very clever way of making a roller. I wonder if it could be used for intaglio or block printing.

    • @PaskMakes
      @PaskMakes  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! I think I got the idea from a video I saw long ago - really not sure where (something similar at least). I couldn't say whether it would work for block printing, but maybe though!

    I search for them in your website and didn’t find them :(

  • @zombyfellow

    Why not fill the pvc with concrete or reinforced concrete? it will hold the shape better than a wood core and much easier to make

  • @JoeGP
    @JoeGP 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    so you reckon that pvc pipe will stop it from breaking again ? i kinda don't, try an iron pipe next time it fails

    • @PaskMakes
      @PaskMakes  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is no way it will break again. The mass of the plywood roller fits that snuggly there is nowhere for the pipe to flex. For the pipe to break it needs to be able to bend to a certain point - which now it can't. ;)

    • @designfordeen
      @designfordeen 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also saw that a maker used a PVC pipe and filled it up with quick-dry cement to make it strong. This is what I wanna do too because this is easier for me.

  • @williambirdwell1633
    @williambirdwell1633 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    i think if you used a thicker shaft you might not of had such a deflection in the drum. other than that it is a great job! Keep doing what you are doing, its GREAT!!

    • @PaskMakes
      @PaskMakes  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you William! Although a thicker shaft would've helped I believe it would still flex unless I went with something substantially thick. I think this solution worked out well in the end - I just didn't realise quite how much pressure went on to the middle of the roller when I built it. :)

  • @thragnoth
    @thragnoth 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What do you use the clay slabs for? Maybe it's in a video I haven't seen yet.

    • @PaskMakes
      @PaskMakes  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Slab roller was built for someone else, I don't work with clay myself! I believe the main thing they use it for is making tiles. :)

    Why not use a metal pipe?

  • @clydebalcom8252

    That should be a permanent fix. If not, then probably thick wall pipe is the next step.

    An axis of larger diameter would have prevented the break. Good job

    • @PaskMakes
      @PaskMakes  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the input but a larger axle would've helped but wouldn't have solved the problem - unless the axle was very substantial. :)
