3 cruises in on VV, and Razzle Dazzle was/is still our favorite "go-to" specialty restaurant, especially for every breakfast...with The Pizza Place tied for our favorite place for a snack with The Dock. Carlos the Diva was an *absolutely* amazing, funny, multitalented performer (though they aren't on Valiant anymore. :( ). We aren't back on VV 'til November and your excellent review made me wish it was fall already...we cannot wait to be back onboard again! And just so y'know, we're mid-50's early retirees (who *always* go "deep pool" on Scarlet Night) and totally agree with your review!
This just made our hearts happy! Thank you so much for sharing your experiences on Valiant Lady. We've sailed with A Woman Named Carlos twice and loved her both times! We sail on Valiant Lady in just 1 week, so we'll be curious to experience an all-new Happenings Cast on board. We hope you have an amazing voyage in November: it'll be here before you know it! ❤
@@thiscruiselife Thanks for taking the time to reply! A lot of the Happenings Cast was leaving, and it was odd to watch them "train" their replacements since they had been on all our cruises on Valiant and we had found our favorites! Regardless, we're sure you will both have a *great* time again! We sincerely hope to cross paths with you both someday in the near future. Safe travels!
How awesome! We hope you have an amazing time! Don't miss the Solo meet up event that takes place just prior to Sail Away! It should be in the app, but if you can't find it, just head up to the Net on deck 16 and you should see at least one member of the Happeings Cast there with a "Solo" sign and champagne. 🙂
Hi! So nice meeting you guys on the Meraviglia! Hope you made it home safe and sound. This review was amazing! Can't wait to book Virgin...hoping it can on Valiant Lady in March with you guys!!
It was so nice to meet you both!!! :) Thank you for helping guide the way on our first-ever MSC Voyage. Horizon Bar is where it's at! :) And thank you for taking a look at the channel. Excited for you to experience Virgin Voyages and see what you think. It's a small cruise world out there; I know if it's not this one, our paths will cross again!! -Mark and Rocky
Hey there! Thank you for the kind words and for watching. 💙 As it relates to noise bleed through, there is definitely a risk in deck 14 staterooms. Several comments on cruise boards indicate they’ve heard chair scraping in their room from the deck above. When I think about Scarlet Night on deck, I wouldn’t have wanted to be under that, for sure. With that said, another cruiser was under the spa and shared they didn’t hear anything. My best advice: proceed with caution when there is public space above the room when booking. Not sure that helps a whole lot, but hopefully helps a little with your decision!
We will be heading out on the Valiant Lady from San Juan on the 2nd of March. A 7-day Southern Caribbean itinerary. We hope you enjoy your cruise on Scarlet Lady!
Traditionally, yes, however, Virgin does things different! They encouraged people to attend and meet solo cruisers to make sure they had connections across the ship. Not sure if every Happenings Cast encourages that, but it actually ended up being fun and we met several solo cruisers we saw all week long! :) Thanks for watching and the question! Let us know if there are any others!! -Mark
What a thorough and informative review! My wife and I will be sailing on the Valiant January 7th for our first Virgin Voyage. Getting excited. Thank you for your review, the video was great
Thank you for the kind words. We’re so glad we could help you prepare for your upcoming sailing. Virgin Voyages was such a different experience from anything we’ve sailed before and so we wanted to share as much as possible. Loved it - and I hope you both do as well! You’ll have to let us know what you think!!
Thanks for watching! The casino was definitely smaller than what we're used to seeing, but the capacity of the ship is also smaller. We noticed that several games were really popular (especially the tables) so there would sometimes be crowds making it difficult to pass by. The ice cream is not self-serve. The hours it's available is quite nice, and you have many different options each day to enjoy!
I totally agree with the reservation system. I called Sailor Services 45 day before and booked all dining in 5 minutes, however the entertainment and shows did not finalize till literally 48 hours before embarkation!! I was on a themed Halloween cruise, so I assumed it was an isolated incident. I am a planner and would have loved more guidance on the events ahead of time to pack properly.
Thank you for tuning in and sharing your experience. Great cruise tip on calling Sailor Services. Ironically, we went through all of that, and because entertainment wasn’t finalized until sailing, we had to change multiple things anyway. Lol - live and learn! Definitely will do it differently next time. Soooo excited to sail again!
Love this vlog gents, fantastic review We've sailed Celebrity, RC and Princess but this year we've booked a 12 night Virgin cruise and cant wait! One of your Hate points you mentuined was the prebooking restaurants and ship events and this is what im not looking forward to organising. Any hints would be greatly appreciated, like whats the best time to book dinner so we dont miss the shows.. Thanks Emma
Hey Emma. Thanks for watching! Depending on the size of your group, you might be able to modify your reservations with ease once on board. It seems like Virgin experiences are generally after 9pm, so if you can land reservations at 8pm or earlier you should be good. The exception would be for Gunbae as that experience takes a little longer due to it being “group” dining. The good news with a 12-night cruise is that you’ll have plenty of opportunities to see the shows and try all of the food! No matter what reservations you’re able to land, we hope you have an amazing time!
“Kongzhu is a typical Chinese toy. At the same time, it is also a wonderful folk sport, especially for the people who live in the north. Many people like to play it. Although Kongzhu is small, it takes a lot of efforts to play it. It will make you sweat and is a good exercise for your body. Therefore, Kongzhu is very popular in the north of China. Excellent and fun review! I've heard there is barely room to stand in the shower in the Sea Terrace rooms. Is that true? Is it worth upgrading to a suite so I can see my toes? 😂
Haha. It is definitely tight quarters in those bathrooms. We aren't kidding when we say that you can be on the toilet and wash your hands at the same time, and the shower is just as small of the space. Those Rockstar suites are huge, on the other hand! Walk-in showers with plenty of breathing room.
You get a pass because it was your first Voyage but... Chinese yo-yo = Diablo Lets's Get Fancy = We Fancy (not an official theme night, but people have taken to going for the gold. Who doesn't love a wedding? Sorry your Gunbae experience was meh, we have been lucky when we have gone to have had great table mates. Your Extra Virgin Experience is inexcusable. It was great sailing with you both again and glad you had such a wonderful time over all. Next time be sure to try the Sangria at the Dock. I do agree that there is not a bar I want to hang out at like there is on Carnival (love me some Alchemy Bar).
It was sooooo great to sail with you again - and to experience our first VV with someone who knew what was going on! Truly unlike any of the 50 that came before it. And thank you for the assistance - we’ve got to get this information right if we’re going to be telling others about it! 😂 We plan to give both Gunbae and Extra Virgin another try in March. Everyone has an off night sometimes and while we were disappointed, we are big believers in second chances. Great tip on the Sangria - we need to spend more time at The Dock in general. We just ran out of time (how is that even possible?!) Lastly, thank you for teaching us Würfel Turm. Can’t wait to play it next time!
It’s so weird that I had the exact same experience at extra virgin but my server was a guy so makes me wonder if that’s how they are training them. It really made me feel bad and self conscious.
Fortunately we had a much different experience on our second cruise with Virgin. Maybe both of our servers were at the end of their contracts. A bummer that we both shared the same experiences though.
We think it's one of those things where you have to be part of that experience from the bottom deck of the roundabout and be there when it starts to fully understand what's going on. For everyone else, it's just a confusing display.

It is definitely a different design on the Virgin lady ships but since their capacity is lower than a lot of other ships, the pools aren’t ever super busy (aside from Scarlet Night). We understand that this cruise line isn’t for everyone though as they really went outside of the box with their ships.
Haha. Thank you for watching the video. We're glad you enjoyed it and are now more prepared to set sail the Virgin Voyages way! As for covering our faces, it would get kind of boring to just watch us talk nonstop. We try to maintain a healthy balance in our videos. 🙂
Hey there! Thanks for watching and the question. In addition to Virgin Voyages, we've sailed on Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Norwegian - and just this past week MSC. We also have Margaritaville at Sea coming up in February (soooo curious what that's going to be like) and are working to get either Holland America or Princess booked as our next "new to us" line. What Celebrity ship did you sail? We LOVED Celebrity Apex. Excited to hear what you think about Valiant when you sail her in September. :) Thank you, again, for the comment and tuning in! -Mark
@@thiscruiselife We've been on Equinox, Silhoutte, constellation, Eclipse and Reflection. We're going on Edge in February( Zach the traveling man will be on our cruise too). Edge is in Australia so we're excited about that. We wanted to try VV because the food quality on the Celebrity S and M class ships has really declined. I just read a review on the cruise critic boards from a Celebrity fan who went on Valiant Lady and she wasn't super impressed with the food. I prefer quality over quantity so her review made me nervous. Oh, we've also taken 2 Oceania cruises. The food on the first ( Marina) was amazing. Not so amazing on Insignia.
Wow. Your experience at Extra Virgin was bizarre to hear. I've never heard of a server behaving like that. We just finished a cruise on Resilient Lady here in Australia and the restaurant booking system for large groups of over 12 was painful. Dreadful. Their system can't accomodate large bookings and to do it, you have to spend 30 minutes queuing atSailor Services to speak to extremely rude and unfriendly staff there who take an eternity to try and book something. Our large group of 15 people agreed it was the worst guest services staff on any cruise ships they've been on.
Wow! That sounds horrible. So sorry to hear that. The Sailor Services team on our ship were very kind and friendly. Sounds like Virgin Voyages still has a few kinks to work out. We will definitely be trying Extra Virgin again on our next voyage in hopes of a better dining experience. Thanks for watching our video and for sharing your experience!
Hate to be a party pooper but it's not champagne they give you free, its prosecco. The champagne you can purchase is either Moet or Veuve and they are over 25$. The free stuff is cheap sh*t.
While I haven’t personally inspected the bottles to confirm, you’re likely right in the fact that it’s not actually champagne proper! Moreso the generic term champagne for sparkling wine. It would make sense with the quantity they give away that it’s probably not top shelf! Haha 😜 Thanks for watching and commenting! -mark
