A great lens for daytime baseball and football is the 200-600. The reach is amazing, it has internal zoom, and the price is really good. I’ve not used the 100-400 but a 70-200 and 200-600 is a really good combo.
You haven’t needed to use the lens b/c you are allowed on the sidelines or behind the endzone. But for us fans and amateurs who are not allowed in those areas we are much further away and the reach of the 100-400 is awesome.
I’ve got the 100-400 which is great at night when paired with my Sony a1, I shoot at 12,800 no prob but couldn’t get that quality on my old a7iii like you said. You’re on point about compression being different from bokeh that you get from the aperture. 70-200 f2.8 is def great for baseball if you pair that with the 100-400 on a crop sensor to make it act like a 150-600, love the focusing speed for the price, haven’t tried the 200-600 though admittedly and if that’s as fast at focusing and overall quality then it’d be worth the look I think. If you can only get one, ALWAYS go f2.8, the new Sony 70-200 v2 is the best of its kind I’ve ever used which is saying something. Great vid bro!
oh that's a sweet combo the a1 with the 100-400. mine is the a7riv with the 100-400 my fifth upgrade. originally went from canon t7 to a canon rp to an canon r then to a sony a7r3 to my current sony a7r4. i tested out the canon r5 canon r7 and canon 90d none of them were any good canon r5 had way to many problems poor eye detection (which none of the mainstream reviewers will tell you) overheating poor battery consumption (which none of the mainstream reviewers will tell you) glitches constantly with the err70 error code constant black screens (which no mainstream reviewer will tell you) list goes on
Oh and based on experience, I’ve regretted almost every lens I ever bought that wasn’t the body’s brand name, I try to stick to Sony GM’s only nowadays. Next goal is a 400mm f2.8… or the new 300 f2.8 when it releases… hopefully by end of 2024 🤞🏻
Did you buy it because at one point you really thought you would use it or did you but it simply because you wanted a BA g-master and figured if you had it you’d use it?
It wasn’t negative at all. He’s just telling you it’s pricey and that it’s not a lens he uses much. He’s better off with a 3rd party 100-400 from sigma or tamron (everyone probably is lol) for a much much lower price.
Great video about your experience in the field. Nowdays the 70-200 or even the tamron 35-150, you can use sony crop mode even on a A7IV to get the shot that you want with that extra reach. I think it was great for sony camera on 2018 but now with new sony camera it's not worth it i think. Like @bquinn722 said, it's better to own the 70-200 and a bigger zoom like the 200-600. But you need to go the gym for the 200-600 🤣😂

First negative review of this lens

so much misinformation in this video
Being that this is a year old, that may be true. I’ll review it and do an updated video. Thank you for your feedback.
