Guerrilla Group is probably the most accessible "true" techwear we've seen as far as price is concerned, enfin leve on the other hand is more pragmatic. It's tech but simple enough to be anything else. Past collections from enfin leve were hardly tech at all and more in the "Rick Owens" side of design.
Let's rephrase and say "the look" is true techwear or at least the image of what most people want. Many people use GG for their set-ups and it consistent. The fast fashion element is due to trend and silhouette more than anything. The materials aren't so much. ECOYA and ripstop fabric are legit which is what GG uses a lot of. Most of there garments are waterproof as well. So when you mention it's not tech the counter argument would have to be "then what is?" ACRONYM is by far the most viable but if you can't afford it where do you go? The next best thing is either pulling from various brands OR GG
THE CASUAL I guess you can say techwear is kind of a subjective term, but in the end it's all about the materials to protect you from the elements to a lot of pockets to carry various items. GG is in a kind of state where the clothes are purely focused on the look and access to a lot of different pockets I think.
Great intro man - you packed a lot of info and inspiration in. Stone Island Shadow Project is another Errolson Hugh-designed line worth looking at as they use a lot of futuristic cuts/fabrics
The editing is great here. For the more athleisure/affordable side of things, I think that the Nike Sportswear line is worth keeping in mind. I just got a pair of the Bonded Joggers and they fit the look pretty well imo.
@@YumiSumire I think it's more of a supply and demand & combined with branding. famous designer are desirable to many people but he is just you know, one person, they can't make it for every one of you.
"Future utilitarian" is definitely what I'm trying to reach in terms of the techwear style. It's "different" on another level. I've bought most of my clothing items from "Urban Society" and "Blank Walls", but I'm looking to get into the more "expensive" pieces.
Great overview of techwear! When shopping for techwear pieces, its important for me to remind myself that the performance is a factor and not just because it looks cool. Which can make shopping for techwear more difficult, especially without spending crazy money!
this video kinda explains it's not inspired from anime at all. If anything anime that exhibits techwear is usually inspired by real world fashion and real people who actually wear it already. techwear looks the way it looks cause it's functional and it does seem to be inspired by ninja or athletic wear or futuristic functional wear just like he states in the video. it reminds me of just a match or mix of clothes that serve a purpose or like harajuku style it's a mixture of clothes to great a unique style or silhouette or look
Great video, a lot of info and help. I myself have got into techwear since I got some Adidas pieces and became in love with the aesthetics. Keep up the good work.
For more Errolson Hugh designed stuff, obviously you've got Acronym and Nikelab ACG, but also Stone Island Shadow Project which is a darker take on techwear. For a cleaner tech look, more simplistic and less ninja check out brands like Outlier, and Arctery'x Veilance. Brands like Guerrilla Group tend to verge more on cosplay... plus Y-3 is guilty of a lack of tech materials with an inflated price point, whereas something like ACRNM has actual substance and function.
I just recently got into the more traditional millennial Japanese streetwear, a pair of harem pants a light tee-shirt and a haori, I like the look of techwear but not sure if I can pull it off maybe once I get a bit more comfortable and confident in the older style streetwear
It would be super nice if you had an album of all the pics featured on the video. Because some are really interesting. And also some sort of list of the brands mentionned. A more extensive one.

A style that's just been on the edge of taking off is cyberpunk styles. Reggie have you ever heard of Machine 56. Or maybe Nathan Kawanishi. Where you kinda do a grunge but future tech style. Do you know about these styles?
Nau out of Portland made the best rain jacket that I had ever used. The early days of the company had some courage with the design but since has chilled out and sketched more conservatively.
So glad I came across your channel. Your insight has been clutch with the direction I'm going in and wanted to say salute!. Also you mentioned the tech-wear community. What are some good sources or places to become more engaged and grow with this community. I would love to be a resource as well as gain insight myself. Keep up the great work! My new fav channel.
So, basically, if I take any old military / police jacket / pants in black and combat boots and add few stylish elements to it, I might be the coolest techwear walking?
Well, there are many military-based brands that produce very nice looking "futuristic" clothes and are not overpriced as these tech-wear brands. Well, they are of better materials (very often, not all ofc), some better looking - personal pref. ofc, but one is meant for fashion, the other for usage. Seen many jackets/ shirts / pants that would fit nicely into tech-wear, but "famous branding" is missing.
I do highly recommend Northface windbreakers simply because alot of them have really good functionality and I have a few and use them with my techwear as well. Personally I think Northface is cheaper especially for those trying to get into techwear. So definitely look into that if interested.
can you do a video on the ZEF style of die antwoord, which originates from south africa. i keep looking around for people to explain what this style is and how to execute it...
Considerably you should check Under Armour for good quality Techwear too, i bought a full set of windbreaker, water-resistant pants and a simple pair of Nike Huarache and they look lit AF, if they came with an Air Force 270 which has some tech-wear element in it (search on google for more pictures),they would look better. Although ACG, Y-3, The North Face look great, but they are hella expensive.
I like apocalyptic look with layered synthetic fibers. I love to have a thin grunge greyman t-shirt, then a second t-shirt over top (allows easily accomplished visual modification). Then a streamlined hoodie (grey or black synthetic fiber). I live in Canada and the temperatures are below zero often and this requires a second hoodie (mine is an army green with a soft texture synergic fiber). I carry a slim EDC bag with multiple pockets carrying my daily commuting urban needs (toiletries, coffee canister, medical kit and a few of secondary importance charging cables and electronic equipment). I then have a second messenger bag with winter hat, extra socks, handknit geometric scarf in two gray tones, secondary thin high quality wool scarf handmade and a thermal synthetic fiber blanket. Most of these pieces are limited edition brands and are all high quality construction with no obvious logos. This setup allows alot of flexibility in changing ones appearance and I can sleep outdoors in below zero temperatures with ease and relative comfort. I also due to the winter rain conditions in BC have a black and ochre weather resistant outer shell to utilize and it completely hides the multiple layers and subtle fashion of the ensemble. It is awesome I just threw in a baseball flexfit cap with local level logo and it fucking rocks the look (even though in Britain and parts of Europe a baseball cap is unheard of cause they are being wankers about the whole tea party with the madhatter thang). On my feet I have broken in work boots that need some dark dubbing with a great quality leather and light weight (for boots). My main scarf worn is a thin cotton blue tartan plaid which can mask my face easily. My pants are a nice beautiful distressed jeans with leather belt. I did incorporate alot of black into my previous setup but now I am throwing a bit more colour in and handmade accented pieces including my new vintage leather dark chocolate jacket for spring and summer. I always carry on my immediate person external battery, thin leather wallet, extra cell battery, headphones, samsung A5 remastered cellphone, survival knife, rolling papers and herb kit in a drum bag, paracord black wrist wraps and a swiss army knife acting as a key chain with a USB key
