@@daveallen63 you are absolutely right. I wasnt talking about replacing plastic with woods, I was just stating one of many reasons why plastic use is the way it is right now. Medical plastic can be an exception though, 95% of our plastic use is not for medical reason, we often use many kind of plastic without thinking the impact to the environment probably because how easy it is to get.

The sad part of *plastic packaging* is that it cold be replaced by recycled paper most of the time.
It's good that the governments started to band single-use plastics.
Let's see if we can have a much more sustainable future on our planet.

The reason why we use so much plastic is to save the trees, go back a couple of years ago most things were made from alternative materials, paper glass etc.
The fact of the matter is. Deforestation was happening as a result and dredging sand for glass was killing reefs, so we stopped for. The most part and moved to plastic....
Here's a fun fact, paper can only be recycled a limited amount of times before it is useless, eventually we will have to start cutting trees again to replace paper that is no longer recyclable. So no matter whiv way you cut it. Plastic is here to stay,
The issue is the lack of recycle infrastructure, so it is getting dumped, granted plastic has a limited recycle life also, but at least at the wlend of its recycling cycle if can then be converted into something useful like artificial timber that lasts for 50 to 100 years if not longer, which also cuts down on tree use and so on.

All plastic products should include a tax that will pay the costs associated with recycling it. If a company does its own in-house recycling, then it gets a tax break. If a company transfers this tax to the consumer, then their product will be less competitive in the marketplace compared to companies that are more eco-friendly.

    • @patrickm5217
      @patrickm5217 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Agree with you except for the part about tax breaks for in-house recycling. Would be too easy to fix the numbers and dump the plastic waste for tax break. No way to regulate that

    • @bertaga41

"use less" The problem is from everyone's individual POV they see their own usage as insignificant. But if everyone used the same that number is unimaginable. An executive for a client was complaining that corporate gross sales were up, however, commissions based on value was down. When I scrubbed individual customers and orders the change, month to month, was a few dollars here and there but when you scaled that number to the monthly volume the change was measurable. One extra soda can in the landfill is not a bug deal... one can per person per day is a huge number.

All the govt should work on developing a garbage disposal system working closely with the Cement Industry all around the world and we will be amazed by how cleaner our beautiful planet will become

The thing is plastic is actually a really valuable material, for durable things because it's not easily degraded, so it's absolutely a waste of our fossil resources to use them for packaging which usually doesn't need to be longterm degradation-resistant. And these resources would actually be essential for the production of all kinds of chemical industry products that are essential for the functioning of modern day life, and should not be wasted.

I agree and I also thought of a different use for that plastic.
Why not crush it and using large hydraulic presses create super dense cubes that can be used as road beds. I was watching a company build a road near where I live and they excavated down several feet then filled it with gravel up to a depth of around 3 feet. They then started putting rebar in the area above the compressed gravel and then poured concrete. Why couldn’t we use the plastic cubes instead of gravel? Also, they could excavate even deeper, say 12-16 ft and fill that area with the cubes. Of course they would need to put in place some sort of liner so the plastic could never leach into the ground.

Surely the companies who do the one shot use plastic can change over to fully reuse versions? It not only save them money since they be able to recycle the plastics again for reuse once collected cleaned and sorted of course.. After all, re-melting that reuse plastic will save them having to keep buying the one shot types which will cost allot since they can't be reused! They can even have a local recycle set up so all the local waste plastics can be collected and reused by the local plastic factory, saving on transporting it long distances thus again saving money this time on fuel costs on bulk transport! And it make more people in the areas more involved with eco friendly recycling. the companies win, the local areas win the planet wins.. less plastic non-recyclables in our sea's and ground.. less diesel used by the trucks .. less big trucks on the roads.. better for all really!

      You are *correct!*
Existence in the western hemispheres, contributes to the greatest encroachment upon the planet.
This occurs to to the extreme difficulty in exercising necessary resources to sustain society...
It is akin to bypassing one's own living dwelling and travelling hundreds of miles just to eat/sleep and wash...
The cost of such an exercise is totally unjustifiable and unnecessary, when it would be profitable to just move to the place inwhich the dwelling exists?
This, also suggests: The why; Inwhich Europeans are trying to *kill-off* the native inhabitants of *rich filled - resourced- lands?*
      Hmmm...

Here is the the best way to recycle plastics.... think about it... where
did it come from? Solution put it back, bury it full stop. All this
carbon some people think is so bad can be put back where it came from.
    There is no problem.

This fear-u-menatry exhibits all of the worst lines of thought in the climate change religion! How do you expect people who do not already agree with you to respond!? This seems to be a "pat ourselves on the back" film that actively derides anyone who does not already agree.
