I own a 19’ Ranger and a 16’ Bass tracker Pro 165 with a 40hp 4 stroke Mercury. I love fishing out my aluminum boat. Not as stable or fast as the Ranger, but it’s so much easier to handle and I can get into some really skinny water with it. I put a saltwater terrova trolling motor on it and just bought a hydraulic jack plate. It will be a sweet little multi purpose boat.
I’m super hype. I have been wanting to get me that same boat so can not wait to see the videos

Awesome that you are finding ways to let your kids enjoy fishing in the simplest way. My dad’s boat when I was little was a 10ft Jon Boat w/ a 7 hrs Johnson. No trolling motor and no electronics. I had to one hand paddle it and I caught a lot of fish from that simple boat. It’s the boat I learned to bass fish out of. Thanks for sharing!

1648 is absolutely a Jon boat. It's all about the hull design and the layout. Happy to see you getting this boat man...I've fished out of everything from a float tube to a big sport fisher and the days I remember most are those days fishing and crabbing out of the old man's Jon boat. Let the memory making days start!

I have a 15ft fiberglass skiff I crappie fish from. It has a fourstroke 25hp Mercury on the back and a 70lb thrust Minnekota with spotlock on the front. It also has livescope and some very comfortable bass seats. It's a killer rig for the way I fish.

I bought a Tracker Topper 1542 and got a Mercury 20hp electric start or pull start best part I don't need a trolling motor it is so quiet plus I like jon boats better than my saltwater and bass boats I'm glad your a Mercury fan that's my best motor I've ran they take care of me when I call them have fun set the water on fire 😊

hell yeah …ive got a welded 14/44 southfork custom loaded out …with a suzuki 20 hp,,on the fly jack plate…powertech ss 11 pitch ,,gps’s at 27.8 mph….i would take a tiller over a steering wheel any day

Fixed Jackplate would be on my list bob's machine shop has a fixed one $300 up to 40hp motor I have a 20hp on one. Don't need to spend on a hydraulic in a jon boat. On The Fly jack's are really cool im sure you've seen em.

NIce. I have a Lowe 1648 and I have a Honda 20 hp. I built it out with forward platform, storage underneath that, deck and lights that shine down on the deck so I can see when fishing later. My rig will fish all day on about three gallons of gas if I run alot. my cruising speed is 22 mph. thats a great rig you are getting there. I go gill netting for mullet in the winter and I go oystering too. : ) nice Brian, George.

I got a 2007 14 foot Tracker V Guide Jon Boat that I built a deck for and turned into a mini bass boat. It’s got a 2023 25hp Tohatsu and just a Minnkota Powerdrive and it gets the job done. I take it where Kayaker’s don’t take their pricey kayaks all the time 😂
4 blade prop was a good idea. I just bought a 16.5 center console Alumacraft. 50 4 stroke efi merc on it. Perfect for the central Fl lakes I fish. Get a brought for a manual 8 or 10 ft spike too.I have a powerpole on mine but you can get by cheap with a used stickl. I can show you what I did. Plus you can let the boy Capt it as a learning experience. Nothing like the water. My Dad never pussied me and I learned a lot as a kid...Grew up fast.
Nice boat. I've got a Lowe 1648 with a 25 Yamaha, and bow mount trolling motor. Fun boat to fish out of. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another Lowe if I needed it.

First Jon boat my buddy and I bought it used together. Wish we had a picture of it. Only had a 50thrust PowerDrive and would put it in the back of my buddies truck and walk it down to the creek. Believe it was a 10ft.

16ft'er is great for 2-4 people. I'd like to get a 10-12ft'er with 5-15 hp... and make a mini bass boat, only for myself to use. Put a trolling motor, on the front...and Do a raised deck everywhere except where you sit to use the tiller handle. Have the whole front to walk around.
Perfect, especially since your bringin kids. That xtra room will be nice. Got enough room to load up with camping gear too, if you want to head up river,

Always have more fun in a Jon boat. I like a 16 ft. Less stuff to break, lot's of room, can be left outside forever & nothing will happen to the aluminum.

I have a 16ft Saturn SD488 inflatable boat with a soft hull (SIB). It has a small leak I can't find and I want something I can take in the river and ocean, but it is a bit rough when the wind or waves get to big. Could a Lowe 1600 series be taken out in the bay safely?

This isn’t a jet boat. Jet drives are too slow
My understanding is if you want 30hp, you would have to double the HP, Ott has a jet drive outboard on his aluminum boat and he takes it in some really skinny water. We have been out with three different guides that wouldn’t consider anything but a jet drive fishing rivers. I live near the Waccamaw River and it would be nice having to worry about ripping off the lower unit. Speed isn’t important in a Jon boat, is it?

I fish on kayak I love it. Some times I do wish I had more range and a little apeed to go farther out , I been thinking about adding a gas motor on it soon .

My first boat was an alumicraft 14 wide came with an 8hp Yamaha that later I upgraded to mercury 25 tiler 2 stroke. Lol 8hp was no go on the Tennessee River 😮
