Please Porsche, I know we are living in an era where turbocharged engines are more present than ever... but please don't stop making the GT3 with that amazing naturally aspirated flat 6 !! Cheers!

If not mistaken, i've read that they will keep the gt3 N/A while possibly the RS versions turbo? im not sure
I guess the GT3 stays (over short or long) non-turbo charged. However soon the beast will come out: the GT2 - and this was always turbo charged...
And it will have a completely different appeal. It will be insane fast, and for sure totally brutal.
The last GT2 was quicker and more powerful than the Carrera GT... maybe the next one will do the same with the 918?
As long as they use NA engine in racing, they will have to keep a NA flat 6 in the 911 range. Same reason why the Cayman GT4RS will have a NA flat 6. Needed for racing homologation.
NA is overrated sometimes, usually comes with shitty torque and you gotta really wind the engine up to get any where. People always shit on the turbocharged cars but I love the effortless speed due to low end torque, the violent kick of all the extra torque and ease of tunability that comes with them.
To each his own I guess.

what a nice car. 7.07 around Nordschleife. It is a dream for every carguy. Thank you Porsche for giving us back the Handschaltung. So you can fool much more around with this car and let the wheels spinning. With manual its again the one and only dream car for me

Whittle Moore yeah but the gt3 rs did 7:06 and the driver that did the official nurburgring time could've pushed harder. I believe that the driver could have pushed more.
Where did you get this info? Sebastian vittel's passenger lap was 7:06 BTG not the full lap.
The full lap of the RS is 7:20, 7:06 is the BTG lap time as Tobi Ogunsanwo said.

Reginald R AMG GTR, 720S, Huracan Performante, 812 Superfast. Not necessarily direct rivals to the 991.2 GT3 but these will probably be some of the cars in this years ECOTY
Reginald R certainly cars like the performante, 720S and a few other great cars ranging from GT cars, coupes to hot hatches will be in the mix but EVO like a GT3 and this car, as Former EVO dude Jethro said, has moved the goal posts on massively. It is the most complete evo car this year. Chassis 5*, manual option 5*, exhaust note from Factory fitted Akrapovic exhaust 5*. It will win ECOTY fairly easily. I've absorbed every single ECOTY since 1998 and I'd bet £1k this wins :)

So only now do we hear about the 'silly pdk surge' of the previous GT3 and the 'synthetic' feeling in the 911R?! At the time they are all reviewed without criticism. No car is perfect. There should always be criticism to go with the praise. But every new Porsche model seems to be exempt until the next one comes out.

I was expecting a lynch mob, no doubt they are sharpening their pitchforks and will be along soon! New car does sound amazing though, I'm not doubting that. I'm amazed Porsche haven't hiked the base price further in anticipation of the likely demand, yet it will only serve to fuel the buying frenzy. Premiums will be large. The first owners are laughing all the way to the bank as long as they don't use them. Car flippers delight!

I love love love this video..currently have a manual 718GT4 and aspire to climb to the top of the tree..great stuff Jethro...but this is old..wheres the new material please..??
The fact that everybody talks about the same car in a same moment (EVO, Auto Express, Carfection, DRIVE, Autocar and so one..) gives unique opportunity to compare and see who's really On Top. "Primates Trinity" aka "C.H.M. Team" (i'm just looking for cool nickname :) have best camera operators, coolest schots and greatest editing. They have Jethro to craft words, but above all they have BALLS :p.
This last F***ing part, like a pinch of spice, well placed and expected there, but so often omited by others. Driving is an emotional experience (at least should be) so reporting should signify this emotion, and this time you have nailed it perfectly.

911R can never remain the best, such is progress and we should be happy about that.
Superb review. A lot of them out there but I think these two combined are the best. I particularly like your last comment re: £500k for a 911R. You said what the world and his wife are all thinking ... good job. Can’t wait for my GT3 to arrive in 2 weeks. That engine will have its work cut out mind to best my 458 😮 .....

People were crazy about the 911R because it was supposed to be the last manual so its value was through the roof. Now that it's no longer the case, the value is going to plummet. It was never a collectors car. There is nothing separating it from the other GT models other than its manual box and now there is a newer, better one.
Where are these nice smooth roads you've found in the UK?
I'm this close to placing an order for the GT3 in manual. But my hesitation is, if I should wait for the RS version. And if I do, will it be also available in manual? My Porsche dealer is coy about the details to be sure.

the GT3 Touring is brilliant ... choose lightest weight spec PCCB’s and LWB’s add lithium battery (minus 35 lbs) and side muffler delete (minus 35 lbs) and best modern pure drivers road car !!!!

I'm more of a Ferrari fan (*F430 = DREAM CAR*), but i like this 2018 911 gt3. Great looks! Great performance! I also like that it's naturally aspirated (don't like turbos for some reason..).

Porsche just slashed the 911R's value with this vastly superior GT3. So if for some inscrutable reason you fancy yourself a 911R now may be the time to take a look at the second hand market - you're likely to find some pretty disconcerted owners and some very good deals.

I haven't driven either of the cars (not surprisingly) but the 911R is more of a GT car, is it not? The focus is driver engagement and driver experience.. Does not really seem fair to compare it to the brand new GT3 which is Porsches track-day car. Sure the 911R could have a PDK, turbos, more aero and all that and be way faster buuuut that would kind of defeat the purpose of it. Comparing apples to oranges if you ask me
Time to swap the 996! Tbh, the GT3 minus that wing would be all sorts of awesome, but the wing is needed of course.
Great review - and good point at the end - 911R will stay high-price collectable piece - GT3 is probably "better" car as it is new-er and the "battle" will go on ... in 20-30 Yrs time however 911R will be much more in value ;-)

I can now sleep soundly at night knowing that by the time i can afford a GT3, all the greedy collectors that have their R's in climate controlled garages will be satisfied and leave the cars that are meant to be driven for the rest of us enthusiast x)

Its a sportscar. Its meant to be involving and make you feel in control of all that 911 greatness. Get a manual. Also for resale down the line, manual is where the value will be for a while i think.

They are both going to be awesome, I have a 991.1 GT3 with PDK that I love. I want the car to drive but I would be an idiot not to think about resale, Porsche dealers very much pushing to PDK

In the broader spectrum. In 20 years of even 50 most of us we'll be driving electric cars. The 911 will be one of the true icons of the combustion engine era. I would want something that fits that profile i think. As close as possible to the first cars and as far away as possible from every form of automation.

Shame they've brought the GT3 down in numbers to GT3 RS levels of availability. The GT3 imo should be the one that most people can get their hands on if they have the dollar. Leave the RS's, R's etc as the limited number ones.

As great as the new GT3 is I don't think it's in the same realm of car as the R. Yes they are very similar cars, but there is just something about the R that sets it apart. In many years the 911R will be the car people are still talking about. I think it represents a breakthrough Monet in Porsche history.
