  • “No Logo” and “This Changes Everything Author” Naomi Klein shares what she learned about American politics and right-wing conspiracy culture while writing “Doppelganger: A Trip Into the Mirror World.” After being mistaken for her own right-wing doppelganger for years, Klein began her investigation into what drives the right and the phenomenon of political doppelgangers. “You have somebody like RFK whose whole campaign is like a weird doppelganger of Bernie's campaign in the sense that he's actually quite good at naming corporate capture of regulatory agencies and taking on the military industrial complex,” she told Salon.
The author and journalist shares why she believes it is important to pay attention to people like Tucker Carlson, Steve Bannon and Naomi Wolf and reveals the way that they are able to control the issues the left talks about. “When something becomes an issue in what I call the mirror world, it then becomes untouchable in our world,” she said. “Once they say it, then we have to just do the opposite.”

This is the most important and enlightening book I’ve read since David Graeber’s The Dawn of Everything. Ms Klein is a hero.

I haven't read the book but I'm very interested in it. And I'm very frustrated with it. the reason being that I think this mirror world discussion and idea is hugely important at this time. I want to share that understanding with others. However, the whole doppelgänger idea I do not find compelling. Or important. To me, it just waters down the mirror world discussion. And I'm not sure if I want to share these videos with others or recommend the book to others.

So looking forward to her book, and her creative, empowering take on this hall of mirrors. I believe she narrates the audiobook version. Thank you for this interview.

Klein should look in to one of those mirrors and do some soul searching instead of blaming some random innocent woman.

The opening question seems like a poor choice in that the inside baseball "New York" assumption about the book from someone who DIDNT READ THE BOOK is so offbase. Why lead with an assumption from someone who knows nothing about the book? Didn't the interviewer read the book? Start with the book.

I think the comment must have resonated on some level with the interviewer, which is why he mentioned it.

With MAGA / QANON / Pierre Poilievre / FreeDUMB Truckers inventing issues to avoid the obvious failures of Capitalism,
it can be a tough World to figure out the Truth and Naomi Klein is here again doing a great job!

It's also hard to figure out the truth when smug liberals pretend that the establishment is being honest and not corrupt and antidemocratic.

@fredgarvin1952 I've listened to multiple interviews of Klein about this book, and she doesn't always convey the real lesson of her book. Which is that Bannon and company are able to gain momentum with their fake or misguided populism because the Left would rather virtue signal in symbolic self-righteous than call out the corrupt neoliberal gangsters that run things, much less organize to confront them head-on. The cooptation and defanging of the progressive momentum represented by Bernie and the squad is a recent example of this. If the Left was speaking truth to power and addressing the material needs of the working class, characters like Trump couldn't so easily claim to be fighting the establishment on behalf of the people.

It's a book that doesn't challenge the existing order which is maybe why it's being accepted by the mainstream whereas those challenging power are designated a pejorative term for an apathetic public to swallow without proper investigation and context.

The book does challenge the existing order; she attacks capitalism outright as the central problem and capitalism is the existing order. What more could ask, for her to do it less elegantly?

What is a COVID denialist? Did COVID have a death rate of 3.4%? NO!!! So if you denied that "fact" that made you correct.

It seems any questioning of the whole Covid narrative puts one in the denialist category. Even wanting answers to the excess deaths over the last three years brands one.

The US had a case fatality ratio of 1.1%. Which goes to show what advanced medical care can do, I suspect. Australia had a case fatality ratio of 0.2%. The responses to the disease were important.
