Kyle, I don't know when you last played this game, but do you perhaps remember whether you can do an Planning, without following it with Attack? The rulebook is not entirely clear on that matter. So, the Stage 3 is comprised of Attack Planning Phase, and Attack Rescuing Phase. The rulebook says:
- page 9: The Attack Planning Phase is *optional*
- page 12: On your turn, you *may* make up to 2 attacks
- page 20 (back of the rulebook): Each player *may* go through these 2 attack phases during a turn - Planning and Rescue.
So, it's clear you don't have Plan or Rescue, but it's not clear whether you can Plan, see that you will not do good, and then skip the Rescuing.

Hi. You can do planning without making an attack. For instance you could attack with Wit and then decided not to attack with Brawn or Stealth, but use two prayer to remove the last guard in a row. However, generally the better move would be to make the attack with Brawn or Stealth and then just declare you are attacking a largely unrevealed row. Then you will fail the attack but then all the guards will be revealed. - Bryce Brown, Game Designer
