17:34 That's the whole problem. Microsoft is not going to change it's view or attitude just because the consumer is pissed off!. The only way Microsoft is going to change it's tune is if we the consumer start taking matters into our own hands. And not upgrade to Windows 11 and keep Windows 10 in place on the drive. Windows 10 will still work functionally in 2027-28. You just will not be getting security, feature updates or regular updates for Windows 10.

      Or, just switch to Linux.

Technically, older LGA775 P4s can run Windows 8 or 10, but only 32 bit. Those older CPUs lack an instruction that previous 64 bit versions of Windows don't require, but Windows 8 and newer do. Ceder Mill P4s have that required instruction, and so, they'll install 64 bit just fine. So, the Pentium 4 631 model is the oldest Intel CPU that can run Windows 10 64 bit. (They'll even install Windows 11 with some workarounds)

I remember about 3 or so years back, running Windows 10 on an old eMachines T3508 with a Pentium D and 2gb RAM. It ran it just fine (I did add a SATA SSD.) The fact that Windows 10 will run on hardware that was over a decade old at the time of it's release is one of the only good things I have to say about the operating system. That machine still ran Windows 10 up until last year, at which point it was 18 years old; I still use the machine but downdated it to Windows XP because of a changed use case. I ran Windows 10 32 bit on a Pentium 3 once and although it ran poorly, it did run. The other thing to note is that even though it didn't technically meet it's system requirements, they were not hard requirements and it still installed without complaint. The Windows 11 requirements are just absurd. There is no reason a Core 2 duo or later should not be able to run Windows 11. The system requirements (the real ones, not the artificial ones) are about the same of that as Windows 10. Yes, it might run a bit slower on these old machines, but for many people they are still fully usable, and throwing it out and buying a new machine is not an option (or not a good one anyway.) Neither is the "official unoficcial" way of hacking it and installing it anyway, most people are not able to or willing to do that. Sadly, Linux is simply not an option for everyone either despite what the Linux users like to say.

This "forced retirement" of perfectly good Windows 10 PCs in 2025 thanks to the Windows 11 system requirements is a VERY GOOD advertisement for Linux! Just you wait, Microsoft: after October of 2025, Linux will become THE most popular operating system for the PC!

@@MegaOS_Ver_NEETthat’s what I do with XP and 7. Just use it till programs stop working. Still using XP and 7 on a lot of systems and I have zero issues. The security nonsense is overblown fear mongering.

I had an issue with the setup.exe /product server today. It usually works, but I figured out a trick for when it doesn't work. What you do, is create a thumb drive of windows 11 with rufus, do the extended and turn off the requirements, make your USB, then you use imgburn or something like it, and turn that usb into a ISO file. You can mount that ISO file on a machine and do the upgrade that way. It worked today when /product server didn't, It was 22H2, I'm going to try it with 23H2 next time and see soon. Kind of funny, I was going to run with /product server and not bother with rufus except for making a bootable usb, but it's still good for making a custom ISO too! I do go straight for microsoft approved workarounds for tpm 1.2/2.0 computers though, this is only for computers without tpm or any of the other requirements.

I wonder if windows 12 requirements stay what they are predicted and rumored to be really everyone without the newest ARM SoC the AMD Ryzen 8000 nor the Intel 15th gen CPU will not be able to use it due to AI features. It is like with windows 11 where they basically forced the consumer to get a new machine to upgrade to the new OS.
The part i do not think he gets is most end user consumers do not keep the same machine for 10+ years. businesses yes consumers not so much. The majority would go out and buy a prebuilt of some kind and it will just come with the required hardware in it. This creates a lot of e-waste compared to keeping your machine from the 2014 to run the newest version of windows 10 on then having to get new hardware to get windows 11 without setup hacks. The current problem is windows 12 is predicted to be out before the EoL date of windows 10 so i can see people skipping 11 and going to 12. The required hardware for 12 is also different from 11 due to local AI features that have been going to and from using it with the cloud and doing it locally in beta versions. In my mind doing it locally will make 12 last longer even though it will mean newer hardware in the system to run.

If the Windows 12 requirements are super strict, I will refer to them as the Microsoft PremierClass AI System Requirements for Windows 12!

Not everyone can afford a spare $4000 for a new rig every three years. Microsoft have totally abandoned anyone unable to find this kind of money. And with the cost of living crisis, it was doubly insulting.

I use a computer from 2007 and it runs windows 11 just fine. The system requirements can be skipped and are in fact a fake obstruction.

I mean your only choices are bypass Microsoft's stupidity, e-wast perfectly good hardware or install linux where you can.
