Not really, a lot of scientist agree on that. In fact, it´s not my own idea, but got that basically from scientists. The amount of fail in psychology in recent history is enormous. Plus there is no method in psychology that can measure 100% accurate. It´s mostly based on measured bias. Sigh!

Apparently I work differently: Giving me compliments will discredit you (my assumption will be that you are fanny kissing, I know my worth and need no validation), do not say my name out loud in a discussion - the only effect will be that you piss me off (I know my name and it is insulting that you have to say it back to me like I'm a little brat in school), do not ask for stuff when I am tiered you will get 0 favors and a grumpy me. I can't be the only one who feels like that. I use a different approach with the people around me and it works.

I don't know what film/program it is from but it appeared to me to be that the young woman giving the compliment was giving a backhanded compliment the other young woman who appeared to be dressed up in a way she hasn't seen her before. Or perhaps has but was simply being manipulative order to get something. It didn't appear sincere at all to me. It was as though she was surprised to see her looking nice. The gait of the one being complimented made her appear to be the unconfident nerdy type. It was as though she took a while to say Thanks as she perhaps didn't trust the compliment as it sounded insincere coming from a (likely) bitchy popular type. Or perhaps she had learned to accept compliments rather than dismiss them as people so often do when complimented. Either way, the compliment was insincere and so not the best clip to use unless showing how compliments can be insincere.
She was normally very unfriendly and disliked people but the compliment forced her appreciation although it was an uncomfortable emotion for her to experience.
