My Japanese wife and I have been together for almost 40 years. She was the first Japanese exchange student living in a small town in Montana. Her host mother just happened to be my favorite aunt and the first time we met, we stayed up all night just talking together happily. We’ve been married 36 years now and have 3 grown children. We still can’t be separated from each other for very long. It’s a very strong bond we share and for this we are forever thankful. It’s not often one finds a true soulmate. ❤

I noticed that too. Years ago we had an ice cream shop that was run by a German family. When they were speaking German they sounded German, but when they switched over to English they had a heavy Southern accent.

I would say this is great advice for any couple!! Even if you live in the same country, your family's culture and individual ways of being will be different :)
They all look so dedicated to each other. Maybe mixed marriages makes you try so much harder to understand each other. They all seem so well suited. Beautiful.❤
Awwh, I love how they are all very open to understanding each others cultures and learn each others language. That is so important! They seem so supportive to each other.
It's interesting how the woman in the first couple acquired a British accent possibly speaking English with her partner. Humans are amazing!!! Love is Love YALL!!!

I'm Mexican American from California and married to a Japanese woman and have a baby boy together living in Japan. When we first met in Fukushima, it was like we've known each other in a different lifetime or something, we were super compatible and a few years later we still miss each other when we're not around together. I appreciate any advice or insight you can give.
Love watching this videos and imagine different stories, but my country at war, no chances to visit any country, so I'm just happy that they found each other. This videos are very positive and encouraging, thx Takashi for your work.
For a new video idea maybes introduce us to the usual dating culture in japan. like interviewing Japanese and asking how many ex partner do they have, at what age do they start dating, maybe also about this confession thing... something like that would be interesting
My wife was a motorcycle cop who ticketed me for dangerous driving on my bike. A month later I met her at a hockey rink where I coach. We recognised each other and hit it off. A year later, we were married. 20 years later we have 5 healthy, happy children and a wonderful marriage
I think the first guy who said "spend some time in your partner's country" is spot on. I'm Welsh and my wife is Finnish, we met in Hudderfield and lived there for the first year of our relationship, and she'd already lived there for a year before we met. So she definitely knew British (if not Welsh) culture. Then we moved to Finland in 1999 and it gave me a much better idea of her culture and upbringing. Being here and reading about Finnish history, and classic Finnish literature (though to be fair in translation). I've been in Finland 25 years now, and it's much more my home than the UK these days. My kids are Finnish, my wife is Finnish, how could it ever feel "foreign" under those circumstances?
an addition to that is - "be prepared to live in your partner's country permanently" - someone is going to have to sacrifice if you're going to stay together. It might have to be you. Meaning someone's probably going to have to sacrifice their career plans, closeness to family, etc.
Takashi, thank you for making this video- it is so interesting and beautiful to see Japanese youth moving forward with acceptance and love for people from other countries and cultures- thank you 🙏
the second couple's timeline is almost identical to mine with my wife! We just got married in the US and are trying to adjust her visa status to a green card now. All I can say as advice, is the same as what they are all saying. COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE! because the cultural differences can cause issues fast without talking about your feelings. You need to show your 本音 really quickly.
The second couples advice on not assuming and staying curious is great because it's true, what may seem really "normal" and obvious within your native culture may be totally alien 👽 to another 😂❤ staying very open and curious and in a learning mindset would be very helpful indeed!

My introduction to international relations was on a project where we planned to demonstrate the conversion of coal to a liquid fuel usable in automobiles. Japan provided a team and Germany provided a team and the USA provided a team. I had to coordinate the preparation of estimates and budgets. Every company, much less country, has their own accepted standards and rules for putting together estimates. I found the experience VERY interesting and grew to really enjoy working with the Japanese and German team members! No romance but the lessons I learned to navigate the cultural and organizational differences undoubtedly helped me when I developed a contract management class at a NASA center (with employees from all over the earth), and when I married a Filipina 20 years later. At least that is what I reflected back to when listening to your interviews.
I met my wife who is Japanese 4 years ago. Just like the couples in this video it was just before covid happened. Fortunately for us she was in Australia at the time so she ended up living with me before we even got married. This helped us get to know one another because we were around each other 24/7.
