diastema and rotations seem the hardest to retain without a fixed appliance. this video is helpful and enjoyable, both in a historic and in semi-contemporary practical way.
Why should they remove this video? It's HISTORICAL: Besides, closing diastema with a Hawley followed by a bonded retainer is possible. It's been done. As you can see, the result is not as "perfect" as fixed braces would have been but have you seen the fixed braces of those days?! How would go through that for diastema only, especially as an adult? Nowdays you'd get some veneers, not possible in 73.
I am a board certified orthodontist. The treatment proposed here has 100 per cent chance of failure to retain the correction. The space will open within hours of removal of the Hawley retainer. This was widely known in 1973 and certainly when uploaded in 2009. Informing the patient is no excuse for proposing futile treatment. The University of Michigan should remove this video.
A bonded lingual retainer will also not work. Eventually the bond will fail and the space will begin to reopen within hours. A gingival fiberotomy and/or frenectomy will also not work. It is important for providers to not sell treatment that will not work.
@05M4N your lack of professionalism doesn't do you or your field any good. Dentists must charge a premium to make a living, pay their overhead and pay off the $30 000 (CDN) or $80 000 (USD) per year investment in their education. Likewise, you charge dentists a premium for your services far above cost value of the crude material, and you should. Because that's how you make a living. There is just no room in this profession for any party in either field showing lack of respect for the other.
@05M4N ...Yeah! i suggest we stop producing dentists and let the technicians do the whole work. I also suggest we get back in time in 18th century when the barbers used to do teeth extractions. ! Sorry Dear technicians,i respect you a lot as partners, but dont forget...we give the order, you execute the order, we r responsible for everything and yes...we can construct the appliances our own but time is money my friend! If you dont like being a technician then study dentistry
Did you notice how close he trimmed the URA to the patients face,, no safety glasses!!! and what if her hair had got caught around the rotating bur!!! The fixation of the appliance was interesting,, no Adams Clasps,,
I like how much different people looked back then

So she didn’t need braces, just a retainer?

Herpes doesn't kill people, and this video wasn't made so long ago that this man could be dead of natural old age.

@@drinkallthesunshine herpes can 100 percent kill if it is not treated. It can spread to your bloodstream.
