I'm from South Korea and my brother worked like 3 years in Georgia Health Science University as a faculty.
Of all the countries in the world I visited, and of all the food I ate so far I can say with confidence that food from the U.S. south is one of my favourites.
I wonder if Cracker Barrel is still in operation in the Evans, Augusta area. :)

We moved from England to South Carolina when I was 11, and I fell in love with Southern food at first bite. Fried green tomatoes and shrimp & grits are 2 of my favourite dishes! But some of the best food we've got down here is what everyone outside the South calls "soul food," e.g. fried chicken, chitlins, oxtails, greens and hoppin' john, the stuff that originated in the kitchens of slaves and poor blacks after the Civil War..

I love southearn food Although my twin sister and I was born in California, my family is mostly from the southeastern U.S. my family moved back to north Carolina when I was around 2 and grew up in north Carolina.

Jambalaya is a version of Paella 🥘, from times of old Spanish Luisiana. True creole, true spaniard.
Jambalaya has Spaniard, French, Native American and African influence.
It’s a little better than Paella in my opinion.
Dont forget fried chicken, mashed taters, green beans, pinto beans, brown gravy, corn bread, collard greens, Turkey, stuffing, and corned beef hash lol.

Just to clarify when he says pizza is an American food he’s specifically referring to American pizza. American pizza is covered in meat like pepperoni ham and bacon whereas Italian pizza is usually served with little meat and fresh mozzarella cheese. Ive had both American and Italian pizza and they really are different things in my opinion.

Lived in GA all my life and regularly visit Mississippi. Most of these dishes are unknown to the south. Soul food and BBQ is the food of the south. You got it right with the shrimp and grits though.

ertio it is. It’s not just Italian lol. Because America has twists on pizza depending on where you are. Chicago, Detroit, New York, California, all different types of pizza. It’s not like pizza in Italy so I would say that pizza is American just as much as it is Italian. You have to remember that Italians have lived in America for over a hundred years, American cuisine is mixed with a bunch of cultures because we are a diverse country.
The type of pizza that is popular in most countries is the American take on Pizza and not the sacred Italian version.

We do have hamburgers here in SC. I honestly have never eaten any of this food. If you want to know how we eat in SC go to Cracker Barrel, Church's chicken, and waffle house. We love fried chicken and breakfast food.

We have vegetables. Collard greens, green beans, succotash, cabbage, black eye peas, cole slaw, etc. All that he did was hghlight a couple of food items as an example of the cuisine.
