  • The Milwaukee Combination Wrenches feel great in the hand and their I-beam design allows for more material on the edges giving your hand more purchase and less pressure compared to thin designs. And the Milwaukee wrenches are headed in a much better direction than the latest India-made Craftsman wrenches.

    Thanks for making these videos, Doc. I'm a young guy that could never afford to buy one of every spanner to see what brand is best, saying that I love quality tools and have a few lovely snap on tools. Your advice has influenced a lot of purchases and unlike other channels that are just shills I don't feel like I've wasted a penny yet following your word. Thanks again.

    I received a USA made set of craftsman wrenches in the early 90s as a teenager from my parents. While a few have walked off over the years, they’ve been good friends through many repairs, builds, and upgrades. Those of you with young men, buying them a quality set of tools like these Milwaukee wrenches will surely have them looking back in fondness to when their parents thought of their future and prepared them for it.

    They really are a beautiful wrench BUT the only thing is that the chamfer is too heavy on the box end. I just about always prefer an I-Beam design.

    Finally, somebody properly labelling the size of the wrench on all four sides in large font, and without the 'mm'...why does a wrench need to be labelled '10mm'...is there somebody out there that is going to confuse this wrench with a 10in. ???

    Although these wrenches look and feel like a great wrench(and they're fine for a DIY'er), used hard in a professional setting the teeth do not stand up. If you ever want to use these on the other side of an impact you will be disappointed and it'll probably happen the first time you do it.
    For those that will say they're not meant for that, fair enough point. But Snap-on flank drive wont deform as easily. Just know the limitation of the tools you use as that is definitely theirs.

      Doesn’t Milwaukee kind of imply they are for professional use, and all that entails!

    • @drummer0701
      @drummer0701 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. They’re good wrenches for sure. The chrome is not the most durable in my experience, showing lots of scratches after light use.

    • @danteakeldama

      @@andygilbert1877 Milwaukee makes great power tools and power tool accessories. Their hand tools are subpar to mediocre at best, comparable to any house brand tools at home improvement stores you'd find beside them.

      I’d love to have a hazet or stahlwille set of wrenches. The US stores mark them up a crazy amount. However, even with shipping they can be very reasonable from Germany.

    These new Milwaukee wrenches look a lot like the new V-series from Craftsman, although I have not had the pleasure to see either in person yet. I do love my USA made Craftsman professional wrenches from the 90s and I still have some USA made Craftsman wrenches around. I didn't realize that the country of manufacture changed before our Sears closed and I picked up a box of SAE and a box of Metric wrenches. They looked and felt different; not from India but marked China. The worst part is that some don't fit their stated size!

      You've probably heard this by now (2 years later lol) but I believe the Craftsmans are rebranded Facom 440 series / Mac Precision Torque / USAG 285P if i'm not mistaken, all being Stanley Black and Decker brands

    I'm not sure how you're going to fit the milwaukee in between a 4mm gap to get a nut out. You better just stick with the snap-on.
    Lol, I swear that's snap-on's only selling point for their normal wrenches.

    I love japanese tools! Especially the metric wrenches from craftsman and pliers, I do have a lot of things made in Mexico, and USA, but that Japan made hits different, I really like them so much, I almost baby them sometimes, good video btw doc!

      They’re honestly really good wrenches. Yeah it’s not USA and yeah the same factory makes the same open end for icon and Carlyle as well BUT the body of the wrench is different and the chrome is different too.
      When I bought mine before are this inflation the sets were JUST over a hundred … now they’re creating up to to 135-150 a set which still isn’t bad compared to a USA set going for 650 lol

    Hi, your wrench presentation and discussion about Craftsman wrenches got me wondering about my wrenches. I wanted to know if you have done or know of a place where I can look for new wrench letter codes, such as 44693 A-AD . I know the number is for a 3/8 combination wrench, but I have no idea what the latter means. In a set, I have this code for many of the wrenches, except some of the others that I have added over the years were different. If you or any of the viewers can help, thanks in advance.

    “Bought this wrench in the 80’s”. It’s never seen a fastener. It’s mint. How do you own a wrench that long and not have it worn out?

  • @drengskap
    @drengskap 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like the look of those Milwaukee wrenches, but I really can't justify buying any more wrench sets personally :-( The I-beam profile is a bit like the Facom 440 series, but those are very different in other ways - the length, the head angle, the depth of the ring end. And some of the worst tools I've ever seen have been made in India - I'd totally avoid those Craftsman wrenches.

  • @FloorItDuh

    Flank drive. 90% of my snap on wrenches are all flank drive for a reason - it works. It works so well I've seen them cut teeth into stubborn fasteners after I got them out.

    Professionally made in Taiwan, and casually made in China? masterfully marketing in the US?

  • @jimhewettjr3730
    @jimhewettjr3730 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Being made in Taiwan seems to mean positive things a lot of times these days. I collect pocket knives, and in that community knives made in Taiwan usually get good marks for the overall fit, and finish of the product. Those wrenches look like more good work from a Taiwanese manufacturer.
    While I'd prefer well made products from the USA, well made Taiwanese tools can be okay sometimes too.

    I’ve got the full sae and metric sets of Milwaukee wrenches and ratchet wrenches. Really nice wrenches those teeth in the open end are very aggressive they can make it difficult sometimes to get a nut out because they bite so hard.

  • @BellaRocko

    Interesting, I had no idea some Craftsman were made in Japan. Also, all my Craftsman sockets fit significantly looser on fasteners than my Snap-on sockets. But that fact has also bailed me out a few times when my Snap-on socket wouldn't fit due to a bolt head slightly deformed or rusted, so they've earned their place in my toolbox. The Milwaukee wrenches look pretty good!

      Yea, luckily China hasn't taken over Taiwan, and hopefully our current and future presidents don't let that happen. They have really good factories in Taiwan, and Taiwan actually holds the original patents for the ratcheting mechanism. Imo supporting Taiwan is supporting the US, as they reserve a critical strategic position for us, and are very good allies of the U.S.

    • @randomguy3281
      @randomguy3281 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah I love made in the US stuff, made in Japan and Germany stuff is also normally top tier, but a lot of high quality stuff is being made in Taiwan. Not just in the tool trade, but in the pocket knife world as well. If you look at a brand like Spyderco, they make a lot of knives in the US, they have some budget knives made in China, some made in Japan, but their higher price specialty design knives are made in Taiwan, because Taiwan can do machining that would be twice as expensive in the US, and I’ll tell you, they are higher quality than the US made Spydercos.

    I have a set of Kobalt wrenches made in India. They're a lot nicer than the Craftsman in the video. No comparison. While we're on the topic, is there anyone at all who likes raised panel wrenches? I sure don't, even though I own a set of older US Craftsman. Can't even remember the last time I used them. The Milwaukee wrenches do look nicely made and designed.

    Just got the full SAE/Metric set of these Milwaukee’s last month, been really enjoying using them. Got a good deal on them too.
    With the Craftsman it’s worth noting they just launched their more premium, tool truck alternative, line called the “V series”, they are made in Taiwan and are trying to compete with brands like Milwaukee, Tekton, Icon, Capri, ect… I’ve not handled any so I can’t say if they do.
