Beckett: great stuff! I'm 6'2" 200lbs, 4.0, all-court, Eastern OHBH, Eastern FH and for a year I've main'd the Head Auxetic Prestige MP-L (99", 16x19 w/ 8 throat mains, 21.5mm beam, 6pts HL stock strung balance), spec'd up to 345g/31.5cm/335sw/14.5tw/174rw/20.6mgr/i. Love it for nearly everything. For strings, my cross is Head Hawk 16, non-negotiable. The connection, stability, consistency, tension maintenance, snapback -- it facilitates it all. And it hardly ever notches, so mains just end up sliding back and forth unimpeded, until they break. For mains, I'm currently testing a bevy of shaped polys as well.
For your setup, I would swap out ReString Zero in favor of Hawk (White, Gray or Black, all colors play great), in either 1.25 or 1.20 gauge, and string the S7T/Hawk hybrid at 46/44 (ie. start low). From there, if you need more predictable rebound characteristics, swap out S7T in favor of Gamma AMP Ocho Silver 1.25 -- unlike S7T, it doesn't bag out and get springy, because it's not as brittle to begin with (less extreme heat treatment). It doesn't have quite the shaped "bite" that S7T has, but it's close, so perhaps the trade off is worth it. Other options for crisp, connected, shaped mains to use with Hawk crosses would be Tour Sniper or Tru Pro DuraFluxx.

Excellent news I have some Hawk in my drawer. I plan on doing a big poly hybrid thing, just have to finish some other string projects first.
Good to see you isolate the influence of specs for specific shots, especially those where you want or need that influence. Makes me consider the same, which helps organize the chaotic thoughts about all the trade-offs. Maybe there are only a few areas where it really matters. For me, maybe...approach forehands on a low ball. With good tail weight and spin, I can rip those up with a lot of power still. Tail weight I want in general for spin, but I really feel punished when it's lacking on those shots specifically. And then there's backhands. Less of a spec thing and more of a "how much spin/shape will the racquet give me" thing.
As I've isolated these specs and their effects, it has greatly helped me tweak racquets and/or quickly know what will or won't work.

I'm convinced Zero may be the best cross string ever, hybrid with any good control string in the mains, you've got the perfect setup!

Solinco confidential full bed @ 50lbs on my wilson blade 100 v7. I like to be pretty offensive and this string is so reliable and maintains tension for so long. It bother my elbow at first but somehow my body just got used to it I guess. It became my tournament string, which is kind my normal hitting string at this point.

@@TennCom I feel like, with good technique and control oriented racquet, you get a lot of power and comfort. The downside is less spin, but can adjust yourself to generate more spin with the swing path.
My main racket is a H22 344g, 31.9cmHL, 335sw, 170 recoil weight, MGR/I 20.69. But I stuffed up when I installed a new bumper guard and now I need to try and remove some lead under the bumper as it feels a little top heavy now. I use VS gut in the mains and Irukandji in the cross.

Your specs are pretty much what I get from every control oriented players frame with a leather grip I've tried. Just over 12oz, about 7pts headlight. That's what my old prestige pro, graphene prestige mid, dunlop 200 tour, etc... all come out to. Just add a leather grip to a racket that's stock about 11.5oz and 6pts headlight and that's what you'll end up with.
I'm trying 3 raquetes right now. I have always played with Radicals MP since i started tennis; but then i gravitaded between Blades and Radicals. For a time, I loved the blade's 16x19, but they got so demanding for me. I'm 35 years old, and I still like using the Radical MP 360+, but sometimes in longer matches i struggle with the power generation and get tired. I'm testing the Ezone 98 and the Extreme Tour Auxetic; right now, the three rackets are with 325g, 32cm Balance, all with Solinco Hyper-g Soft around 52-54 pound. I'm an all-around 4.5 player and have a one-handed backhand with an eastern/semi-western grip. The Radical feels very solid, I used to play with them because I love the feel and stability on every shot, but it's quite a demanding racket to generate power, especially in long matches. The Ezone 98 has this extra easy pop, on groundies and serves, easy powre but sometimes I feel the ball flying too much, and I can't feel the string bed as much as the radical, and is quite less maneuverable than the Radical. The Auxetic Extreme Tour, was good on serves and groundies but much less forgiving than that Radical 360+ and the Ezone 98, it's quite hard for my elbow too, in fact it was the first time I felt elbow pain in my entire life. Right now, I'm struggling to find my backhand down the line, so my forehand down the line on aproch shots. My maximum static weight is 330g, and my balance point is between 31.5 and 32.5, I'm have 1,77cm, and 78kg. Any device to improve those points? Cya. Great job btw. I love your work and content.
Thanks so much! Do you think dropping the tension on your Radical would give you enough extra power in longer matches? Otherwise, I think the next step would be trying something like the Pure Aero 98 or the Pure Drive 98 to get a little extra for free.
@@TennCom Well i tried pure aeros once, but it's not that precise, i think its not for game style, i kinda hit more flatter, the pure drives, the new vs comes to my mind, but i feel that babolat rackets are quite high in RA, i used the pure strike 98 once and got a pretty bad injury in my shoulder; since than i never tried Babolat rackets anymore; that's why i picked the hyper-g soft to play (i used to play with alu power rough almost my intire life), im kinda open to strings, right now im liking hyper-g soft a lot, but it's a confort live and spin friendly string, maybe a new string setup can help with this issues. Any recomendations?

Took a page out of your Djokovic videos and settled on an old Head Ti Radical MP with a Fairway leather grip + Tourna grip OG, which comes out to 330g @ 32.9cm balance. Doing it with Isospeed Baseline Speed @ 52 lbs as well and going to experiment with a reel of Black Code 17 for some extra spin. Best racket I’ve had after going through about 17 diff rackets in all specs over 3 years, thanks for the inspiration!

Hey man, one recent discovery from me that replacing dampener with a grip end ring wrapped like a rubber band increase the pop especially on an 18*20 and enlarges the sweet spot. Also better feedback and feel... Definitely worth to give a shot ...

Great video, my VCP 97D happens to be very similar to your ideal specs (344g static weight, 8pt HL, 328 swing weight)
I use the Babolat Pure Strike VS in stock specs and just added an Overgrip! It plays awesome with Rs London 1,25mm with 24 kg Tension

I've tried a few different setups. Confidential, RPM Blast and Rough, Weiss Cannon Ultra Cable, Lynx Tour Pro, Natural Gut, and Champions Choice. In a pro staff I love Gut and Champions Choice, no question, no curiosity. Love it. But I hit better with a pure aero 98, I'm a big hitter with a strong serve and I use a lot of topspin, and the 98 is the best thing i've ever hit with for that game. I've tried a lot of sticks and I keep coming back to the aero 98 and finally I've settled on it. String wise Confidential has been the best so far. I string it at 53 in the main and 52 in the cross. It feels great, and when I'm not falling backwards and launching my forehand into space I hit a pretty solid ball with it. Ultra Cable was my second favorite. The spin was insane and it felt pretty good. I used it for a several months and on a whim I tried Confidential and just really liked how it felt like RPM blast, but more comfortable and with better spin. I remain curious though! Some of the strings you mention sound pretty cool!
Given your appreciation for Confi and RPM, I think you would have a lot of fun with Toroline Wasabi. Its not quite as consistent from a playability duration/control perspective, but i find it to be more forgiving when out of position.

I use volkl cyclone orange (not other colors) in 1.25 for tournaments.
what do you like about the orange compared to the other colours?
@@TennCom black is muted, loses tension too quickly, not so arm friendly. Yellow is too soft and powerful and doesn t bite the ball as the other 2. The orange is all the best of both worlds : soft but not too powerfull, great snapback and good pop. Tension maintenance is the best of the 3.

One question if possible. I am writing to you from Armenia. I am 33 years old (58кг 166-168cm height). I have wanted to learn to play tennis for a long time. I found a coach for myself, and today was my 9th lesson. I was able to play with him 10 times already😁😁😁. I really like the videos on your channel, and I've learned a lot from watching them too. So here's my question... Could you recommend 1-2 specific tennis racquets that are suitable for a beginner player like me but also that have really good quality? I can order them from the United States, so that's not a problem. Also, I believe a larger head size would be beneficial to easily hit the ball. Also what you think is it better for me to pick light weight version of a racquet or a standard one like 280gram or near 300?

I would recommend going closer to 300g, unless you coach has explicitly suggested lighter. You'll get more controllable power and stability from the heavier frame, plus it will be easy to grow with. It honestly doesn't matter than much what you get. You game will develop around whatever you buy since you'll be learning so fast. Your technique will shape around the racquet and thats part of the how your playstyle will develop. I would recommend something around 300g, 100 square inch head (for the reason you mentioned), but keep swingweight at or under 320. The Pure Aero might be too demanding with the higher swingweight.
I would personally recommend the EZONE 100. I think its a great all around frame that will suit your well both if you find you like to play aggressively or defensively, but if the paintjob on the VCORE makes you more excited to play tennis, then thats the better racquet for you.

May i ask is there any way to lower the swing weight like maybe to lower tension of strings or go for more tolerate strings i have heard many times that polyester strings are not recommended because of higher probability of getting the vibration to your arm and getting some injuries like that tennis elbow etc?

Definitely try the Ezone 100 300g 2022, if your coach allows You. It is a great recommendation. Remember to use a grip one size lower in comparison to other brands than Yonex.
The swingweight and stiffness are two different stories:
You can not lower the swingweight by lowering tension, but You can lower the swingweight by using thinner string gauge.
While in the same time You can lower the stiffness of the stringbed (not the racquet) by using thinner string or by stringing with lower tension.

@@inv3st_eth839 Any Vcore is definitely more difficult than any Ezone. I used Ezone DR 98 > Ezone 100 2020 > tried Ezone 98 2020 > tried Ezone 100 2022 > Ezone 98 Tour 2022 > tried Vcore 98 2023 > now I am on Ezone 98 2022 305 g.
Ezone 100 2022 300g suits the best the definition of allrounder from all of the above-mentioned racquets.
If You want to progress and don't want to change raquets very often, I would go for Ezone 100 2022 300g. Lighter version will be stiffer and easier to be pushed around by better players and demand very fast swinging which can be tough to generate by a beginner (You described yourself as one) so I would skip it. Grip size 2 should be okay, but can be tricky also, but it will be hard to find Ezone 100 2022 300 g with grip size 1 and hard to sell it in the future to anybody, so I would take a risk and order grip size 2.
And the most important - while choosing a racquet for yourself just listen to yourself, cause You will be playing with the racquet you choose, nobody else and until you try it, you never know what suits you the best...
At 2:29, you reveal your personal secret sauce; that you can hit all shots but one at varying specs. And that one shot, the down-the-line forehand, requires a very specific recoil weight. So that's the RW you've chosen. I think you're onto something (and your movement is much improved too)!

Wilson blade v8 16x19, only mod is a leather grip. String i use is tour bite at 24kg on the main and 23 on the crosses. I weirdly loved the diamon rough tour bite but decided not to go for it cz i’m scared it would cause pain in the future.

Great stuff once again. Interesting preference! My preference tends to be lower static but higher swingweight and balance. continues to be a mystery to me where these preferences come from.
Almost the same spec as mine. In order of importance:
Swing weight 330 +- 3
Balance point 31,85 +- 0,15
MGR/I of 21,05 +- 0,05
Recoilweight around 162
And the static weight what comes with all the above: around 350 grams
I came to this spec after 3 years of tweaking. Lowest MGR/I I have been is 20,8, highest was 21,2. Lowest balance was 31,0 and highest 32,1. Swing weight lowest that I can play with is 326, and highest 338 that I can play with, but have tried up to 345. Lower than 326 doesn't work for me at all.
With my spec I also have tried variating the twist weight with keeping everything else constant, but I notice that with my preferred spec my manouverability suffers as soon as I increase twist weight noticeably.
Are you also similar to me anatomy wise? 6ft tall and lanky? Does your technique share anything with mine? Pretty crazy how close we ended up.
@@TennCom No we are very different, but we are similar in the way that we prefer player style (control) rackets and play with normal not over the top topspin and also like to hit through the court. For me the higher mgr/i is really linked to mostly a one handed backhand (technically inspired mostly by stan the man, who's more square build i resemble). The amount of upper body strength I have naturally requires a low powered racket and a fairly high swing weight to actually feel the racket instead of it feeling like a tooth pick. The lower balance is for all court play and fast reaction at the net being able to manouver the racket into a different direction fast and it makes the higher swing weight and mgr/i racket a little bit more whippy in a different way.
@@TennCom I noticed that people are very scared of higher static weights and that manufacturers are promoting that BS so that they don't have to better their quality control for swing weight and they can pretend that people need to buy a new racket every few years. To create a perceived manageable static weight around 295 300 with a low balance point (which is the standard now around 32,5 , 33,0 strung) for a racket to actually work with an ok swing weight without people losing comfort in the impact shocks with the ball, it results in a low MGR/i for almost all current rackets. The highest you can find sits around 20,8 (disregarding ps97rf) for a vcore pro 97. Almost everything is lower and sits between 20,3 and 20,5. This has major draw backs in consistency if you don't hit all your shots with maximum spin.
I have customized several of my buddies rackets to a higher static weight without really increasing their swing weight and they were scared but after playing with it didn't want it differently anymore.
I always thought that the string in the mains is responsible for spin and the crosses for power or control?
They are all responsible for it all, but in difference ways. The Zero adds spin by putting it in the crosses because its so slippery that it enhanced the snapback.

yes thanks for asking again! You can approximate it by subtracting swingweight from spinweight. Spinweight is like swingweight, but you measure it will the strings pointing to the ground instead. The cheapest way to actually measure twistweight is with the Briffidi SW1 swingweight machine and the twistweight adapter, which is what i do. There are some more expensive machines coming out that will make the whole process easier, but at a cost.

I see the specs that you arrived at but, in summary, what exactly did you end up doing to your stock Whiteout to get to these numbers in the end? How much did you end up adding to the stock racket and where?
It depends because the racquets I got were not identical, but +VT Leather grip, +5g at 7 inches, +5g weight control module in buttcap + damp + tournagrip

I noticed MPTennis played with his whiteout, extended in completely stock form in his playtest. What do you think your added weight did to change the performance of the stock racket in the end?

Hi i have whiteout 18x20 at 340 weight just added leather grip and lead at 3 and 9
My string is hybrid luxilon Gut with alu at 23kg
But it didnt became my main racket also bought a radical pro. Something on the back hand feel like the racket is a bit short it has to with the neck of the racket. Also on high balls forehands feel like a have short iron sword😂
Anyway i dont know if i Can fix these because it is got very nice fore hand and service and is more powerfull than radical which is all around racket nothing to complain a bit more power but i Can fix i think
Yeah I ended up only adding weight to the handle. Weight in the hoop didn't give me enough extra power or stability compared to the extra energy i was exerting

i use 1.25mm in TS7T and 1.28mm in Zero, not for the durability but for the control
Dang it, Beckett, do some weights and you'll be able to handle that 340 swingweight for as many sets as you need! I'm much older and less skilled than you and play full singles matches with 340+ SW without issue. Now, if only I could settle on a racquet... 😬

U should try giving polytour spin/pt pro hybrid… been my favorite string for a long time maybe try a little higher tension on it too
We actually filmed a video and intended to review that last year, but at the time our string reviews were tanking so we didn't publish. I can safely say that I don't have high enough swingspeeds to get good snapback from that setup. It was quite boardy for me, but i think it would be great if i was a stronger player.

its tough to add weight to the Whiteouts ive found. Only ended up adding weight to the handle of mine.
I've tried a good amount of strings and still like PTP 120 best.
tbh PTP is one of the strings I find myself recommending most, a true poly ATG

I do not like how the Speeds flex. It feels like the absorb more power than the create. I know there are a lot of players that have success with that racquet and all level though.

How this whiteout compared with blade 98?
Whiteout has a lot more stability power and spin if you are ok with the swingweight being about 10 points higher. Control on the Blade is better (assuming you hold string pattern constant) and the comfort is also better

Nah they rather use the same racket specs to get a perfect feel of it. Djokovic is still using a racket from like 2009 with only minimal changes
@@thenandnow5602 and yet there are so many who act as if they are experts on the rackets that the pros use. The sad thing is so much of the info that racket companies put out there is just nothing more than marketing bollocks that really mean nothing. Sure the nerds will slurp it up but most good players will buy a racket that they're comfortable with and not based on which pro is using it. Good players can play with any racket and they don't fall for the marketing nonsense.
@@capricornmagic63 True. Just find a racket that you feel confident with and use that for years. You will have a better feel with every repetition and it's like the racket becomes an extension of the arm.
This is exactly why most pros use the racket which they became pro with and just get a Painjob to advertise the latest version. As example Etcheverry, Ruusuvuori and Sinner all endorse the Head speed mp 2022 but actually use the Head speed mp of like 2016?, When they turned pro. The speed versions only change slightly and we will probably see pros using the head speed mp 2022 in like 2026.
The people who change their set up too often will never have confidence/feel in their setup and this wont be good for your tennis improvement.
It's good to experiment a bit at the start of your journey, but after some time you should just stick to your set up and save that money for lessons.

@@TennComWhat's your theory behind using a thin(ner) main string combined with a thick(er) cross string? Aren't the mains the ones that will break first, almost regardless of relative gauge, and so making them the thinner of the two strings will only exacerbate/accelerate this inevitability? I see your reply to another poster about aiming "not for the durability but for the control" but I'm interested in your specific stringing/hybridization philosophy, especially as it relates to 'industry standards'. Like, what are the pros doing these days with their hybrid setups (in terms of mixing guages?
@@wesleyoliver3312 the control was part of it, but here's a more practical reason. I had some 1.28 and some 1.23. I string for a few friends on the side and most of them perfer 1.23 which leaves me with a bunch of extra 1.28 that should be used up.
I used to be all about the round cross string with a shaped main. In theory, this makes a lot of sense to me. However, this is something i want to put to the test more rigourously. Hybrids of all sorts are a big part of my content plan for fall and winter. Videos would have been out by now, however, my elbow injury has delaying things significantly. Its better now, but i have a few personal things that are coming up which will require my attention so things might be a bit slow to release

After having an extreme tour and head radical i decided to just go nuclear and get a babolat. Chose the pure strike so tecnically their controll racket but still a beast with free power and spin.
I much prefer swinging the extreme tour, its so satisfying and feels right, feel on impact so nice too, however i win way more with the pure strike.

@TennCom Ive lost certain fun parts of my game which is unfortunate, but I wont lie its super addicting feeling so powerful and seeing my opponents in so much more distress from basic groundstrokes than in the past that im probably having more fun on court than ever.
Chilling on a 32.7 balance and 332 swingweight, static around 328, lowest weight Ive used in a long time, feels off when i swing but doesnt seem to matter. And the forgiveness is super appreciated in the 3rd set or off days.
Decided to keep 1 of my extreme tours, and gonna pick up an older 95 just for when im in the mood to enjoy some creative tennis.
Ngl altho im over the moon with my pure strikes i am tempted to experiment with a pure drive now.

No disrespect, your channel is very well done especially your players ranking videos. But I never understood the endless equipment tweaking and experimenting with lower level rec players. All the time spent on the constantly trying to find the perfect setup (doesn’t exist) could be better spent on actually fixing your strokes. As a 5.5, I have used the same exact setup for 5 years and never really think about it. Is it perfect no, but I know what it is going to do and I would rather spend time training the important things. Again I enjoy your channel and your efforts to provide information to people out there. Just my opinion.
Its a preference thing. Just as you prefer to do drills or whatever, some people like experimenting with strings and racquets. I think this generally happens at a given player's plateau, whether that's self imposed or not. I actually generally prefer to spend my time one court working on my game as well, but I don't think I have a lot to share with other players when it comes to that, so its not necessarily something I put on the channel. I do have a lot of knowledge about racquets and strings to share with the world so I offer what I can.
@@TennCom I can appreciate that and even though I don’t change my setup very often, I do enjoy your channel. I would only say that what I see with rec players is the constant changing of equipment messes up their game sometimes and puts focus on the wrong things. Happens in golf too I guess. Most upper levels guys rarely change or even know half the customization stuff you reference. Some college guys I hit with don’t even know if they are using a 18x20 or 16x19. In the long run, whatever makes people happy and gets them out on the court.
