I use 3 250MeV Obliterators and 4 PBO-300 Auto-Alpha and max the power to them. I also have 2 280C Atlatl missile launchers in slot 1 right click with only 2 units of power allocated. I use the missiles for clean up after the turrets have melted them sufficiently. With this config I can take on as many as 3 Starborn Guardian VI ships at a time in a level 75 system and come out on top. In most cases they never even make it past my shields before they're dead.
I love having all missile weapons combined with a mod call starvival which adds ship ammo use. It makes the game harder and the missiles feel more useful than in vanilla.
One shouldn't sleep on long range turrets. I have four units of the turret that has a range of 4500 so they start firing as I jump into a hostile encounter. The first enemy often evaporates before even getting into range to fire back.
Sure, until they run out of charge. I will take disruptors or proton cannons anyway over the Vanguard as a result. Those seconds to recharge between bursts can be the difference between success and destruction.
The PBO-175 Auto Helion Beam has less DPS than the Exterminator 95MeV Auto Helion Beam. There is a small break every few shots, so the actual fire rate for it is much lower. Also it's recharge rate is slightly worse and the Exterminator 95MeV Auto Helion Beam also has a higher "ammo pool" before it requires recharging. The PBO-175 Auto Helion is still the third best (non-turret) particle beam weapon.
Hey there SFW, love what you're doing. I want to tack-on something else. In Extreme mode, you cannot rely on Class C engines and shields. They don't provide enough power to get away or sustain fire long enough - Extreme really wants you to boom-and-zoom. For that reason - yes, particle beam weapons are **stellar.** But one may also consider lasers and ballistics to add on, in addition to EM to offline ships entirely.

The bulky Class C can be very slow and unless you clear you enemies fast like in the video, you end up taking a lot of damage, especially when turning. For that, smaller but faster Class A Ships can be very useful in harder difficulties to boom-and-zoom haha. And yes you're right, ballistics and EM do come in very handy too!
Its not fun if your weapons are so powerful, you melt all the enemy in 30 seconds. If you are playing a game with 100s of enemy ships, you need super powerful weapons. But just fighting 3 or 4 pathetic Spacer ships, hear them scream when they die, you don't need such strong weapons.

I can be wrong, but 6 Vanguard Obliterator can run the entire game in any ship very well. With the perks, is even more strong.

if anyone uses the 250 mev turret, it's great to save power because using mlre than 1 doesn't really make any difference
